tonight and was there with one special super fan. hi, betty. >> reporter: hi, sarah. that's right. now this fan became a warriors fan because of steph curry. he made it a point to be here at chase center tonight to witness the super star break yet another three pointer record. in a sea of blue and gold, you can always count on one fan to sport steph curry's red davidson jersey. his name is dr. michael sherman. >> i was initially a new york knicks fan. but since they don't have a basketball team anymore, i became a warriors fan just watching him. and in 2009, i've been wearing his jersey, just short of the reminder on what they do on and off the court himself. >> reporter: on the court, the first shot during friday's game was a three pointer. it thrilled the crowd as usual. but this one made him the first player in the nba to make the three pointer in 200 consecutive regular season games. >> another testament to how

crypto investors who have already learned the hard way. >> reporter: if you own bitcoin or other digital currencies, tech experts say you will likely continue to lose money. kimberly is on the move looking for a new apartment. >> if i had an extra $40,000, that would make finding an apartment in san francisco a lot easier right now. >> reporter: that's roughly how much money she lost in her cryptocurrency investment this year. >> i'm definitely grieving that loss because i did the thing you're not suppose to do, right? i did -- i did invest my savings. >> reporter: she did not use ftx as an exchange, but the collapse of ftx, the second biggest crypto exchange, will further push bitcoin and ether prices down. that's why it hurts investors and the industry as a whole. >> 2022 is a bad year for cryptocurrency from the beginning to the end. it's lost two-thirds of the market value.

>> reporter: the professor, the tech expert, teaches cryptocurrency at san jose state. he says this is the fourth crypto crash in the last 12 years. and it's going to further hurt the industry's credibility. >> too much money we create greed. no oversight will make people make bad decisions. >> reporter: as a crypto exchange, rketace for people to sell, and store digital currencies. >> all the withdrawals are stacked. i can't get the money out. >> reporter: and he tried to withdraw money from the platform this week. but they could not get their money back. >> i thought it was very secure. i have lost almost a couple million dollars. i am probably never going to trust any exchange anymore. >> reporter: the best case scenario for them is to get pennies on the dollar. that's the best thing they can do. >> reporter: kimberly says the latest crash left her with $10,000 in her crypto investment. at this point she said selling her bitcoin and getting out is not an option. >> if i hold on to it and it goes high again, then i have

the opportunity to recoup at least maybe i don't lose the money. >> reporter: kimberly and tech experts say the biggest lesson here is treat crypto investments like gambling in vegas. only play with money you're willing to lose. in san francisco i'm da lin, kpix 5. well some experts and lawmakers have more oversight. an idea that will probably get a lot more traction now after ftx has lost potentially billions of dollars. >> i'm curious to see whether or not capitol hill really will eventually start looking at how to be responsible with this stuff. it is very clear one way or another, it's going to be around for a while. so making sure people are safe and protected and at least know what they're getting into. i think it's really critical. >> so you might have felt some shaking in the east bay tonight, probably not much though. a 2.8 magnitude quake hit about a mile away from the

issuing a subpoena requiring him to testify, which he hopes to avoid. trump is back by the dillon law group headed by bay area republican harmon dillon. warrenton who works out of the virginia office said in a statement, "long held precedence and practice maintains separation of powers prohibits congress from compelling a president to testify before it." convicted theranos founder, elizabeth holmes, asking a judge to go easy on her ahead of her sentencing hearing. her lawyer is asking for 18 months of house arrest instead of 20 years in prison for her four felony fraud convictions. they argue she was the victim of an abusive relationship and that she's been mocked and vilified by the public. her sentencing hearing is set for next friday. well as we count down to thanksgiving, we should also probably be counting our dollars. this one is going to be expensive. you can thank inflation for that. food was .6% more expensive between

october and september only. grocery prices have jumped up since the beginning of the year. andrea nakano has more on what bay area families are dealing with that. >> reporter: people are feeling the pinch in their pocketbooks everywhere they go. joe pratt has seen the impacts of inflation firsthand. >> i mean i have been shopping forever. definitely things are not on sale as much as they used to be. and fruits and vegetables have gone way up. you can't find some stuff in the frozen place. >> reporter: this holiday season, it's not just about inflation. when it comes to serving your thanksgiving turkey, the bird flu is also to blame for raising prices. the average price for a whole frozen bird is $2.45 per pound. and up from last year. those

prices are prompting some to switch up their menu. >> and only because we will have a small crowd. >> reporter: due to inflation, some food pantries are seeing a significant increase in demand. >> and in a lot of them because of the pandemic, they lost their jobs or a part of the hour they're working. and so they haven't been able to get caught up with that. >> reporter: brenda with the multicultural center says it serves about 300 families every week. reaching out for help to try to make ends meet. >> they go to our food distribution sites to try to save a little bit of money on groceries to go towards rent or gas. >> reporter: while there are signs nationally that inflation is coming down. according to the bureau of labor statistics, consumer prices here in the bay area went up 6% compared to the same month last year. but joe

is holding on to hope that he sees some relief as a consumer soon. >> that's all we can have is hope. i don't know if anything will come down. doesn't seem like it in this short term. >> reporter: andrea nakano kpix 5. it is starting to feel closer to something of the holiday season. the ski season is officially here. a week ahead of schedule thanks to the recent storms. opening up this weekend to welcome the first guest of the year, which a few weeks ago seems highly unlikely. >> right, all it takes is a couple of decent snow events and we have that base to ski on and the promise of, well, a little bit more snow. >> the injuries probably. >> yes, likely. it's one of the risks you run when you're hurdling downhill. but let's take a look at how much is expected in the high sierra. the same system that will bring us a chance for showers over the weekend will bring in a few inches of snow and maybe

approaching 6 inches from some of the highest elevations just enough to freshen up the slopes on saturday for the sunday skiers when the sun is going to reemerge. clouds will increase, but those will be few and far in between. light showers more likely, but far from likely overall. north of the golden gate on saturday afternoon. look at futurecast in just a moment. even as the sunshine will reemerge. it won't have a huge impact. those will remain below average for a while. the trailing end of the first ripple of energy has been skirting through the north bay. a few radars returning then. we may see a few patches of mist and drizzle across the bay area tonight, but they won't amount to anything more than a trace of moisture. a significant batch of moisture looks like it will be heading into the counties tomorrow morning dropping down towards the north bay in the afternoon. but it's like you would build a wall. it doesn't look like much of that moisture is going to actually make it much farther south into

the bay area. a few hit or miss showers are possible and flexible with outdoor plans. it's not going to be an all-day washout. your odds of picking up the trace of total rainfall will be 1 to 3 on the high end. they will break back through for sunday and a nice day overall. but right now temperatures have dropped off quickly. still holding on to 51 degrees in san francisco. with the clouds increasing overhead. those temperatures won't increase too much further. early tomorrow morning with a few upper 30s in the north bay valleys. temperatures tomorrow, about the same as they were today even with the mix of clouds and sunshine. the chance for showers about 5 to 6 degrees above normal. everybody else though, doesn't matter if you're on the south end of the bay, inland in the east bay, everybody is going to be in the upper 50s and the lower 60s. more typical of late november, early december as opposed to the middle of the month. temperatures in the upper 60s around the bay and north of the golden gate. the cooler weather
