they got rsv. it is said people are having to stay apart. >> it seems like everybody is getting sick these days including here in the bay area. doctors say there is a reason for that. this is probably the last thing you want to hear after years of grappling with covid but this cold and flu season is already packing a 1-2-3 punch, we are talking cold, flu, -- 10 covid, flu and rsv. three children died and for the first time this year, a child under the age of 5 died from rsv and flu. hospitals are being flooded with both seniors and children infected with rsv and there is no vaccine for it. live in marin, i understand that the national person looks like, what are we hearing about hospitals here, are they

filling up? >> reporter: many local children's hospitals here in the bay area are in your capacity, for example, benioff children's hospital in oakland intemperance is carful but because of the length of stays with this illness are fairly short, beds are opening up quickly. to stop this gentle from getting any worse, healthcare providers are giving advice that many people do not want to hear. >> they got sick at school, they got rsv. the two older ones, then they brought it home to the rest of the family. >> reporter: rachel devi has seen firsthand how the respiratory infection rsv has impacted her family. >> they are still just staying to themselves. they wanted me to come over, her birthday was yesterday and we had to just stay home and do some face time celebration. >> reporter: santa clara county is seeing unusually high levels of the flu and rsv, prompting healthcare officials to send out this warning. >> do not send your child to daycare or school and please do not go to work. this is the easiest way to spread the

infection to other people and increase the burden on our healthcare systems. >> reporter: what has healthcare providers concerned is how early the winter viruses are hitting this year. the reason why? we asked dr. david kornfield the stanford children's health and he believes it is because of the pandemic. kids that were isolated and masks did not catch it until now. >> we are seeing rsv not just in kids who are a year old or two years old but in kids less than three years old all at once and it is the case that the first infection tends to be the most severe. >> reporter: well there is no vaccine for rsv, healthcare providers are urging people to get vaccinated for the flu and covid and as we approach thanksgiving , the advice is to get together wisely, take the proper precautions to avoid bringing the virus home. >> masking up at work, wash your hands frequently. just staying at as possible.

>> reporter: many agencies are testing the wastewater here in the bay area and they are seeing a rising level of the flu which means it is a higher risk to the community. andrea nakano, kpix 5. the flu, covid and rsv all have similar symptoms. fever, chills, cough and everything else as did hear. because they seem so similar the best way to tell which one you have is to go out and get tested. it can also become harder to buy cold and flu medicine this winter. some northern california stores including innocent governmental area are having trouble just stocking up. >> we have definitely seen a change in our product lines for cough and cold medications. we are seeing things we have normally ordered not being available and is trying to figure out other product lines to bring it to the pharmacy. >> reporter: if you cannot find your usual medicine you can try finding a replacement by comparing the active ingredients but you might want to check with your doctor or first. at the same time, covid rebound cases may be more common in people who take paxlovid to treat it. a new study out of san diego found

an investigation tonight after dolls with dark complexions were found hanging at 330 the school this week. they were found at saratoga and prospect high schools and redwood middle school. we know the most about the investigation at saratoga hi.

the superintendent sent out an email to saratoga high school students and their families who wrote, on sunday morning, students practicing music on campus discovered an african-american doll hanging from a tree by a noose in the main quad. the school source gave kpix these pictures, although grainy, of the suspects that police are trying to find. these pictures were taken about 9:15 friday night. the saratoga school district has a sibling you can call if you have any information. two mini latent rail trains smashed into each other seiner oracle parks, at least seven people were hurt from the impact. five of them were checked out of the hospital but they were not badly hurt. we talked to passengers who were inside one of the trains. >> it was really aggressive. i am shocked i did not fall out of the seat, honestly. it was hard. >> i noticed people on the floor, people screaming. >> my friend screamed and everything, i almost fell out of my seat. ultimately we are

25 recruits were injured with five still in critical condition. >> the deputies of the front of the formation to the vehicle coming and they were able to get out of the way. but the people that were behind the ones in the front could not see what was in front of them. >> reporter: silva says he saw some recruits put into patrol cars taken to hospitals before could arrive. investigators say the driver was not under the influence of alcohol and they are still trying to figure out what could have caused him to drive on the wrong side of the road into those recruits. witnesses say if not for the recruits that rushed to help each other, things could have been worse. >> i believe those take charge and handled the situation is what pretty much help them save their lives. they took action really quick. take a look at this picture from space, it is kind of like a cosmic hourglass. one of the more haunting and amazing images we have seen so far from the james webb telescope.

winds on friday. they will not be strong enough to significantly boost the fire threat but it results in just a bit of a warm-up for the end of the workweek and then the onshore breeze will kick in as we had to the dance saturday. also sunshine on friday, also sunshine again on saturday. then we see a gradual return to passing clouds sunday into monday. into monday night after the sun goes down, continuing into tuesday. is not a slamdunk that we are going to get rain. it is a better than 50/50 chance but cannot guarantee anything this time of year with these initial lives of rain that had our way. things look promising for now but there is still time for lucy to pull the football away from charlie brown. the good news is, it looks like and what are the normal pattern will shape up as we head toward the end of november. the 8 to 14 day outlook takes us from thanksgiving through the end of the month, november 30th, a decent chance of a wetter than normal pattern but even a normally wet pattern would be good news. rain chances headed our way from late november. right now looking pretty good as a lookout to the east ,

temperatures are mostly down to the 40s, still holding onto 52 degrees in san francisco, all the way down to 40 already in santa rosa and one of the chili spiced rum running with temperatures in the mid-30s, mid to upper 30s inland with low 40s around the bay. temperatures are going to warm up to what is typical for this time of year. upper 50s along the coast, mid-60s around the bay was made to a few upper 60s rather inland for everybody with any degree or two of what is normal for this time of year. we will build on that by a couple degrees for the end of the workweek on friday, then back to near temperatures saturday, sunday and monday. we do not see a huge cooldown to accompany rain chances but maybe a degree or two worth of a drop and then we try out. rain chance we see monday night and tuesday is likely to be out of the way and time for any pre-thanksgiving travel on wednesday and the long-range forecast for thanksgiving day next thursday also look strive for any day of travel around the bay area or around the state. straightahead in sports, the local college basketball scene, and there is a lot.

and edn jay leno was badly burned but he is expected to fully recover. the former tonight show host is doing well, he had a first surgery that used skin grafting, he actually had second and third degree burns on his face, his chest and hand from a gasoline fire. this is the ultimate car guide, he was working underneath a vintage car when it suddenly caught on fire. jay leno is getting ready for a second surgery but he still went out of his way to cheer up sick kids in the hospital. >> i can say that he has been remarkably kind and engaging resident in the hospital here.
