hate crime charges this morning. 22-year-old anderson lee aldrich faces five counts of murder and five counts of committing a bias motivated crime, though the district attorney says more charges will likely come. the five people killed at club q saturday night have all been identified. it comes as an army veteran credited with stopping the shooter is describing how he helped take down the gunman. danya bacchus is in colorado springs with the latest. hi there, danya. >> reporter: good morning to you. richard fierro says his military instincts kicked in and he was focused on eliminating the threat. though he is being hailed a hero he says he wishes he could have done more to protect the five people killed including his daughter's boyfriend. >> i'm not a hero i'm just some dude. >> reporter: richard fierro didn't think twice about stopping the gunman who opened fire in the middle of a colorado springs nightclub saturday night. >> i hit him with the gun, his gun, not mine. i grabbed it and i hit him with it. i kept hitting him with it. >> reporter: the u.s. army veteran who was at the club with his wife, daughter and her

boyfriend raymond green vance says he wanted to save his family. >> my family was at that time everybody in that room. >> reporter: vance along with ashley paugh, kelly loving, derrick rump and daniel aston were killed. five crosses have been placed at the growing memorial outside of club q. the di's mayor says he wants this community to not be defined by the tragedy but by the response. >> too often society loses track of the victims of these sad and tragic events. we strive to give the victims the dignity and respect that they deserve. >> reporter: tributes continued monday in colorado springs and other cities. the denver city and county building was lit up in pride colors overnight while vigils were held in north carolina and washington, d.c. >> love one another. be your true authentic self. >> reporter: police are still determining the motive of the suspect. 22-year-old anderson lee aldrich who remains hospitalized. he faces five counts of first-degree murder and five counts of committing a bias

motivated crime. the charges against aldrich are preliminary and prosecutors have not filed formal charges yet. fierro says he plans to see the suspect in court. matt? >> danya bacchus in colorado springs. thank you. a terrifying scene in massachusetts. one person is dead after an suv came crashing through the front window of an apple store. errol barnett has the details. >> reporter: a fast moving suv left this jagged gaping hole in a wall of glass along with at least one fatality and multiple injuries inside this apple store in the small town of hingham. >> i just heard like glass shatter and then everyone ran to the window because they thought it was a smash and grab. >> reporter: emergency crews raced to the wounded, some victims were treated by first responders on the sidewalk. others were trapped. >> there was people covered in blood. >> reporter: authorities say it appears the five passenger vehicle only stopped once it hit

the back of the store. >> multiple locations injured out in front of the store and in the store including a few patients that were pinned against the wall by the vehicle. >> reporter: south shore hospital says it received 17 patients in 45 minutes. >> some pretty serious head trauma. >> multiple patients with life-threatening and limb threatening injuries. >> reporter: within hours district attorney tim cruz announced an initial criminal investigation, but withheld the name of the male driver. >> we're trying to piece it together right now exactly what happened, but, like i said, this is a terrible event, it's a terrible day. >> that was errol barnett. we are learning more about the horrifying murders of four idaho students who police say were stabbed to death as they slept. christina ruffini reports from the scene as police are still on the hunt for a suspect. >> reporter: police here say they've tracked nearly 700 tips and conducted more than 90 interviews in their search for the person who murdered four idaho students. >> currently there are no

suspects in custody and we have not located a weapon. >> reporter: last seen in this video roommates madison mogen and kaylee goncalves, police have ruled out the man in the white hoodie along with the person who drove the two home that night. a timeline is emerging the surviving house mates arriving home at 1:00 a.m., mogen and gone calves at 1:35, the same time as kernodle and chapin. police say there were multiple calls made to the cellphone of a victim's ex-boyfriend ending at 2:52 a.m. but they don't believe he is a suspect. those calls put the murders after 3:00 a.m. the 911 call came nearly nine hours later. >> the identity of the 911 caller and the 911 call have not been released. >> reporter: we are now learning there were other friends in the house when police arrived. around town there are flyers pleading for help posted everywhere as investigators comb the area, even searching dumpsters for clues. >> this person isn't just flying

under the radar with no friends, no family. i'm sure they work somewhere. so the police just want everyone to be extra vigilant. >> reporter: olivia stevenson sister of kaylee goncalves say her family is frustrated over the police response. >> if this individual is out there and they get this i want them to be scared and they should be scared because we will find them. >> christina ruffini reporting there. the fbi says it has made a huge fentanyl bust in southern california. authorities say a man was arrested for allegedly running two illegal drug labs that used high speed pill presses to produce tablets containing fentanyl and meth. agents found more than 20,000 multicolored pills containing fentanyl made to look like oxycodone according to prosecutors. russia and ukraine are accusing each other of war crimes after online videos surfaced reportedly showing at least 11 captive russian soldiers shot at close range. much of the videos are too

graphic to show and cbs news has not been able to verify their authenticity. it shows the soldiers lying on the ground, russia says ukrainian forces shot the prisoners of war but youk says russian soldiers opened fire as they were surrendering. the u.n. is aware of the videos and looking into them. rescue workers in indonesia rushing to find trapped survivors in the rubble of buildings that collapsed in an earthquake. the delgt toll has risen to more than 250 people. hundreds others were injured in yesterday's 5.6 magnitude quake on the main island of java. the quake set off a landslide that blocked streets and buried homes. more than 13,000 people have so far been evacuated. it is day three of the world cup. the u.s. men's team with some mixed feelings after having to settle for a tie in their opening match. and some major social issues are making headlines. roxana saberi reports from

olivia, thanks for joining us f olivia, thanks for joining us for the fall and officially for the spring. >> that is brown university's baseball coach making a historic announcement. 18-year-old freshman olivia pichardo is the first woman to ever make a division i baseball roster. she made the team as a walk on utility player after going through practice and workouts with other players this fall. two reality tv stars received lengthy prison sentences and a settlement is reached in the case of a black man shot dead by two atlanta police officers. those are some of the headlines on the morning newsstand. the "washington post" reports the atlanta city council has approved a $1 million settlement to the family of rayshard brooks. the 27-year-old black man was shot and killed in 2020 after two white police officers tried to arrest him in the parking lot of a wendy's restaurant.

he was shot twice in the back after grabbing one of the officer's tasers and firing it as he ran. prosecutors declined to file criminal charges against the two officers. the associated press says reality tv stars todd and julie christy have received hefty sentences for bank fraud and tax evasion. they are known for their show "chrisley knows best." a federal judge hassan tensed todd chrisley to 12 years in prison, his wife julie received 7 years. prosecutors said they took part in a multimillion dollar bank fraud scheme and hid their wealth from the irs while flaunting their lavish lifestyle. and the "atlanta journal constitution" has a georgia mother is charged with murdering her toddler. 22-year-old leilani simon reported her 20 month old son quinton missing from the family's home last month. that launched a massive search. the boy's body has not been found but authorities say they believe human remains found in a landfill last week could be his. investigators say no other arrests are expected in that

the beginning of this holiday shortened week the dow lost 45, the nasdaq fell 121, the s&p dropped 15. the possibility of a nationwide rail strike grew after members of key freight union rejected a tentative contract, all 12 unions representing more than 100,000 rail workers must agree to the deal by early next month to avoid a shut down. three smaller unions have also said no. a strike could lead to supply shortages, higher prices and cost the u.s. economy more than $2 billion a day. online sports better are urged to take steps to protect their accounts after several companies reported fraudulent activity. draftkings said hackers withdrew money from customers accounts. they used the same log in information as they used on other websites. shipping companies say they are in good shape to get packages delivered on time this holiday season. carriers including the postal
