move over, black friday, today is oakland's black sunday. >> as john ramus shows us it is giving african-american businesses a chance to participate and thrive during this holiday season. >> reporter: this is the fifth annual black sunday expo in oakland. an event which celebrates the spirit it takes to pursue a big dream by opening a small business. >> reporter: the vendors at sunday's expo may not have the money to compete head-to-head with big retailers like target or amazon , but, they do have the courage to try. >> there are a lot of businesses in oakland, but, they are very small. that is why these events here are important , so that we can elevate them. our job is to help our businesses, the

community find out where they are. >> reporter: most of these people have no formal training, just an idea for a business, and the faith in themselves that they can make it work. that is what happened to tracy joy ramos, she quit her job as a designer for large clothing companies, and began studying how to make floral arrangements. something that she was never really confident about. >> then, one day, a lightbulb went off, and i realized, i think i am pretty good at this. >> reporter: now, she is prospering as a floral and event designer, and helped to create the decor for sunday's holiday expo. >> there is a really good feeling when it all comes together. >> reporter: on mother's day, tracy opened her first brick and mortar flower shop in san leandro. >> always think outside the box. because, you just never know. right around the corner might be something that you are amazing at , and that you really enjoy. even if you fight against it, like i did for a while. >> reporter: sherry vance did not fight it. she found it big mamas desserts in the middle of

the east and south bay did pretty well in terms of total rainfall. this is the rain that we anticipate from here until we get into wednesday . how much do we get between now and wednesday? not bad. a third of an inch bay wide. right now, the numbers are in the 50s. light rain reported in oakland, and in santa rosa in terms of rain totals . not bad at all. the east bay picked up more than an inch, so did livermore, san jose, and other places where you expected to rain more than the east bay and the south bay, 61 hundredths of an inch. santa rosa leg san jose which is awfully strange. what we are expecting is for the rain to begin at about 2:00 in the morning. it will spread south through 7:00 in the morning. a wet commute, especially if you are getting out on the early side. for the rest of the day is your can't miss forecast, a mix of sun and clouds and showers for monday. showers will end later on tuesday. we get a break later in the week with storm warnings up in the mountains for travel will be tough. if you are headed to the hills, you will have to take

it was a nice day today, a lot of sunshine. folks on the peninsula turned out for a fun holiday event, including mood food and music and shopping. at the holly jolly palouse. organizers said it was a good way to organize local business. the festival featured dozens of art and craft booths, and toys for tots drive for the alameda county firefighters could use your help collecting new and unwrapped toys for families who cannot afford them. this coming christmas season. you can drop them off at any fire station, or buy them from an online registry. cash, checks, and disc gift card donations are also welcome. check out seven cisco's fire station 19 in the mission, crews got it all decked out for christmas. hoping to win the

city's fire house decorating contest for a second year in a row. 17 firehouses are competing in the contest which first started in 1948 . it was revived three years ago. all stations are encouraged to host block parties and help raise money for local charities. maryland and breed will announce the winner on december 23rd. if you are having a tough time figuring out what to get someone for the holidays, well, you might find it at this unusual bay area event. owners of the menagerie, oddities, and curiosities market set up a pop up today at san jose's winchester mystery house. it is one of seven shows held each year, featuring all things odd, likes bugs, bones, and preserved animals including the stuffed skunk you just saw , and reptiles in a jar. >> the show is not for everyone, but it is created for the people who like all things odd. odd, curious, and mysterious. that is what we are. >> many of the items are handmade by local artist hoping to sell unique antiques ,

the 49ers game was a mixed bag today. a win over the dolphins but at the expense of jimmy garoppolo. there was a special event during halftime that was nothing but positive. >> mary lee spend the day with the person who is teacher of the game. >> i feel like my heart is just going to jump out of my chest. >> reporter: mary lee garcia is a true 49ers fan. but, at levi's stadium, the niners are honoring mary for her faithful can it commitment to students and community. >> i am excited to be here, not just to be at the game but to be here as an educator and have been chosen because i have been a niners fan since i was bored. >> reporter: mary teachers teaches at nine elementary in fresno, the same school she

attended growing up she helped to start the dual language immersion program for spanish-speaking students. >> i came from the neighborhood where i work out, now, and being from a low income single-parent family, to now work there, and work at the same children that, you know, that was me, back in the day. to be able to be there and support them and be there for them, and just know that is our future, that i am helping mold, it is an amazing experience. >> there was no doubt who the teacher of the game was supposed to be. it was mary from the start. >> i can approach her and talk to her about anything. that's how i know that she is passionate about her job . >> i think having a student from the first class i ever taught coming back to me after high school graduation and saying hey, i'm going to college, misses garcia, i'm going to be a teacher just like you. that was like, the best feeling ever. fothis faithful fan, it was her turn to be
