just one wish that they have, they wish that no family would have to go through what they have gone through. >> now at 11:00, a sleeping 1-year-old boy was the innocent victim of highway violence because case, a wake-up call that we needed to make our freeway safer, and now, his family could be one step closer to finding justice. good evening, i'm sarah donchey. investigators have spent more than a year working to solve the killing of little jesper will. the toddler was shot while in a car on i-80. killed in a crossfire in a gang shooting while sleeping in his car seat, prosecutor said. andrea nakano has been following this case for us. what kind of reaction are you seeing from community members tonight to these arrests? >> reporter: let me tell you, according to the chp, this is a case where they have known for quite some time who is responsible for this senseless

killing . investigators say that this was a shootout between two rival gangs from san francisco that led to the death of jasper will. >> reporter: words of gratitude from jesper wu's father is the alameda county district attorney's office announced murder charges after a 13 month investigation. karl chan, a community advocate, was there to translate for the wu family. >> very happy and excited to see this press conference talking about this. at the same time, they feel that they are bringing back the memory of the day on the freeway. >> reporter: it was november 6th when the wu family was driving south on 880. chp investigates say there was a gang-related shootout on the northbound lanes, and one of the shots fired hit jasper. >> this is the worst nightmare

outcome of gang violence , that innocent people are literally caught in the crossfire. >> reporter: while suspects emerged early on in the investigation, the chp said it was critical to take the time to gather the evidence to get a conviction. >> it is a testament to the hard work that our detectives did, it did not matter if it was 13 months or 13 years, we were going to find justice for this family. >> reporter: the arrest brings closure to the wu family that this case has rocked drivers sense of safety on bay area roadways. >> even on the highway, i always pay attention to the surrounding cars . i tried to get away from the type of traffic. >> reporter: simon hopes cases like these will encourage lawmakers to create tougher penalties on gun violence. simon feels the violence has spun out of control.

>> to some extent i am very angry, but on the other hand, you know, we have very little we can do. >> reporter: the wu family has suffered an unimaginable loss. his father herbs his sons death will not be in vain and bring an end to tragic gun violence. >> that's there one wish, that no other family will go through what they have gone through. >> reporter: this is one of the suspects arrested in this case. jenna jackson was booked in alameda county jail and he is expected to be arraigned tomorrow morning. sarah, back to your. >> andria, i know you are a mom. i am a mom. when this story came out it was so disturbing that it actually made me angry, i cannot even imagine what those parents are going through. what was the lead in the case that helped chp crack this? >> reporter: investigators said one of the suspect was shot during the shoot out on the

highway. lee then later showed up at a sentence is a hospital and it was from there that i started piecing together some of the clues in this case. lee was shot in a separate incident, and died just last month. >> oh my gosh, andria, thank you so much. our hearts go out to that family. you can watch the full announcement about the case, including remarks from jesper's dad on our website, kpix.com. since last year, we have reported on several shootings along east bay highways. this summer, i actually spoke to a man who was also caught in a crossfire on a freeway shootout in oakland. in june, garrett mason and his fianc÷e were driving along 580, they were recording under dash cam, when this happened. >> hey, hey, are you okay? they just shot through our window. >> one of the bullets happened to go through our windshield.

>> he was caught between two cars that were chasing each other. the bullet hit inches from his fianc÷e. of them were okay, though. in august, police arrested a 24-year-old man from san leandro, a suspect in that case but there was also another freeway shooting in oakland, less than a month ago. a man was killed in a car to car shooting on i-80. to other people got hurt. to help stop this, local leaders have been pushing for more freeway cameras. in may, the governor launched a pilot program to put 200 of them on state freeways, including along 880, 580, and highway for. and, four shooting victims, recovery can come with a lifetime of emotional and physical challenges. the list goes on foundation is dedicated to supporting people living with injuries from gun violence. they held a gala tonight in oakland. at some of its the foundation and supporters, donors, and volunteers. the director started life goes on back in 2007 after being shot out of a nightclub -- outside of an nightclub in san francisco. >> will keep on moving

and yourself during this triple illness. doctors are begging people to get vaccinated against flu and covid, less than a third of people in the city have gotten the latest booster shot but they also want people to take other precautions. >> for all these infections, masking works. we are not mandating that you do it but i am telling you right now, it is a great idea to mask on transit and endorse. >> reporter: respiratory illnesses are on the rise across california and flu season has come early and with more force in recent years. san francisco is no exception. there were 126 people hospitalized in the city as of december 13th, up from 112 last week. there is no vaccine for rsv, but, that has been sending some very young children to local hospitals. >> we are seeing a lot of repeat infections were a child will have one virus one week and a different virus a week and half later. >> reporter: he says lately,

( ♪♪ ) sixt. rent the car. five years after san jose man was stabbed to death, there is finally a break in the case. 63-year-old samuel choi was killed on everglades avenue in june of 2017. police had this surveillance video of the suspect, now they have made an arrest. 36-year-old keith dupree was arrested this weekend in the central valley. they say he assaulted choi while he was walking in the street six days before the

murder in almost the same area. he was also caught on camera wearing the same clothes. the day after the stabbing, menlo park police stopped dupree because he matched the description of the suspect. police found a pocket knife in his back pack and let him go. they still don't know a motive. there is a big outcry from some high-profile journalists tonight who say that twitter suddenly suspended their accounts. some of them were from cnn, the "washington post", and the "new york times." some of them have said they did not get an explanation when their accounts were suspended. twitter owner, elon musk, said they released information about his whereabouts, known as doctrine, but he did not include any evidence of that. now 28 where rare look inside the seismic deondampent thdersonreserv an een ryed to a homeows been watchi process unfo. juano moved into his home three years ago to enjoy retirement life.

thrilled about how long it is going to take. okay. talking about the weather now, we have a live look outside, san jose, dublin, and our mt. diablo camera. most inland parts of the bay area are under a freeze warning tonight. you want to make sure to keep your pets inside. paul heggen has been tracking the conditions for us but definitely cold, but i know, when i complained to you about the temperatures this time of year. >> you are still adjusting from southern california back to the bay area. it's what happens this time of year, we get some cold snaps and then we warm backup. temperatures are dropping off for now. current readings dropping into the 30s in concord, livermore, and santa rosa. freezing fog possible in the north they valleys tomorrow morning, taking it easy, especially on the bridges and overpasses . temperatures are going to be chilly tomorrow morning but they will not be anywhere close to record territory. our lows tonight are going to drop down mostly around freezing in the valleys, the coldest spotted santa rosa at 29 degrees, that

would not even rank in the top 10 for the coldest mornings and santa rosa so far just this year. temperatures around the bay into the upper 30s to around 40 degrees. high temperatures tomorrow are going to warm up, lower and middle 50s along the coast, middle and upper 50s around the south end of the bay. upper 50s, and even close to 60 degrees in the santa clara valley. one degree short of 60 in san jose. not quite as mild inland, in the east bay, with slightly chillier start but you will still make it into the middle 50s. mostly upper 50s north of the golden gate. some of the cool spots climbing up, you will make up for the cold start tomorrow morning. santa rosa is one of the warmer locations, 60 degrees a friday afternoon . 61 degrees in windsor. let's take a look at the big picture pattern, the sunshine, tomorrow, the sun angle is low and will help to boost our temperatures pretty much up to what is normal for this time of year , a couple of degrees of what is average but the big picture pattern does not shift much for us. there is an area of disturbed weather that will sneak closer to the southern

california coast, but, none of the moisture associated with that will visit us in the bay area but we will not even see any clouds. lots of sunshine in-store through the weekend. we do need some more rain eventually just to moderate air quality because of all the wood burning smock in the atmosphere. for most of the bay area today it will be the same. into early next week, and of course, chipping away at drought conditions, across the bay area, through the drought monitor, the exceptional drought category is -- the outlook for january does not point above or below average precipitation for the bay area. things could go in either direction. sensing for the three-month outlook taking us all the way through march. it is a la nina winter which does favor getting back into a dry weather pattern overall.
