>> mixed together the smoke and fall fog. normal unobstructed visibility is 10 miles and really reduced visibility is less than one mile. we are in between, so the fog has transitioned to low cloud cover, but out there, especially for the north bay and east bay where temperatures have only reached the low to mid 40s. it is cold out there and temperatures around the bay along the coast and santa clara valley . air quality has been flat out that, at least in the moderate category. a lot of orange dots indicating unhealthy for sensitive groups and santa clara valley had the worst air quality all day. unhealthy range and tomorrow is another spare the air alert day. forced air quality in the north bay values and santa clara valley's, but there will be times when the majority of the air quality are reported moderate air-quality and unhealthy for sensitive groups mixed in. another day to try to limit any outdoor exertion and please do not add by using the

are questioning the methods to the madness. >> reporter: the shakeup about twitter announcing a new policy that prevents users from sharing links to other sore accounts which are created solely for promoting other platforms. >> he is reacting a lot to what's going on. in deciding not to put any social links in your profile , i get it, but it speaks to how insecure maybe he feels. >> reporter: some users are worried of all cross-platform promotions band and later clarified in a tweet that quote , casually showing occasional links is fine. to add to the confusion, twitters official account deleted all posts it had made about not allowing cross-platform promotion. all of this comes after he banned more than 25 twitter accounts this week. some for what he described as dachshund. others

were high-profile national journalists who had been covering his takeover of twitter, but he lifted the journalist suspension on friday after he drafted a poll to his followers asking if he should reinstate the accounts. the majority of respondents said yes. elon musk is taking the silicon valley's disrupt and innovate ethos to the extreme. >> silicon valley has a history of these kind of brilliant jerks that a lot of people have seen create massive success. that said, there are a lot of experiences where we have seen that this approach to management does not go well. >> we are following this one closely. so far, he has not responded publicly or otherwise about the results of that poll. he said earlier that he would abide by them, but he also said there is nobody else who wants the job of leading the company. psychedelic drugs could be decriminalized in california.

a bill that would do just that for possession and use of plant-based psychedelics. and michael vick has more on this. >> reporter: backed by health professionals and veterans who have seen benefits of things like magic mushrooms. the most important breakthrough in mental health treatment in our lifetimes. state senator scott weiner advocated for the bill at the san francisco memorial today and he referenced research saying that psychedelics are instrumental in healing ptsd , anxiety, depression and opioid addiction. it was joined by veterans who shared personal stories of how psychedelic drugs save their lives. this bill does not legalize the sale of these drugs, but only protects users from prosecution. >> we know the war on drugs has been a complete failure and criminalizing drug use and possession accomplishes absolutely nothing. >> there is opposition to the bill from law enforcement. the district attorney's association says it wants to see more

evidence that these drugs are safe as marijuana. they say hallucinations can be dangerous to users and bystanders alike. this bill would only to criminalize natural psychedelics like magic mushrooms and not things like acid or lsd. voters in oregon and colorado have approved decriminalization. a similar but bill has failed here. most recent cobra numbers from late last week show 11% test positivity in california. workers who can't covered on the job can no longer be guaranteed paid sick leave. in fact, division of occupational safety in health and osha saying that the virus is so widespread it is next to impossible to figure out if somebody got on the job or not. the deadline to clean covid sick pay is december 31.

very different kind of gift wrapping going on in san jose. you are looking at 100 volunteers and their friends attempting to mix, roll, cook at that 3000 tamales in one day. all of these are going out to farmworkers and their families for christmas to say thank you for all of the hard work. they will be delivered from farm to farm at half moon bay on wednesday. >> they are very time-consuming to make, so that is the last thing they would do after working 12 hours a day. they get a little bit of that christmas latino tradition we are able to give them and they are so appreciative. >> delicious, too. lester was the first year and saw a need to step forward. now, they have even more launchers that can

make an even bigger impact. for the second year in a row, not california's population of monarch butterflies is bouncing back after being on the brink of extinction. meteorologist darren peck visited the monarch sanctuary to see how the account is shaking up. >> i have had them land on my hand. if you are here long enough, you get to see them. there she goes. >> reporter: you have had them land on you like that before? >> yep. >> reporter: paul mary knows better than anybody else. having a monarch butterfly land on you has become an exceedingly rare privilege. >> in 1997 when they first counted all of the western monarchs, there are 1.2 million . in 2020, less than 2000. >> reporter: you do the math on the numbers he gave us, that is more than a 99 percent declined. a lot of experts

concerned by 2021, the western monarch would be extinct. >> how do you go from zero in 2020 two 13,000 last year? >> reporter: tell us. >> lots of whoopie. >> reporter: that is one obvious part of it, but it's not the whole story. the last two years, the weather has been very favorable. because of quite a change, way too warm when they're not expecting it or way too cold when they are not prepared. we have destroyed most of their habitat. >> poster child for everything that is going on in the insect world. bottom line on this is, if you can't find enough to eat because the wildflowers you rely on are gone and we put so much of the stuff there, you are not going to be able to survive the winter. >> what you think did that one in? >> starvation. >> the rumble from the people who are doing the counting is

that the state numbers may be as high as 300,000. that would be 50,000+ improvement over last year. another good year. they are not out of the woods. >> darren peck reporting. time for a first look with paul heggen. >> that fog is remaining e week before e stubborn christmas, but we are going to see more sunshine in between those clouds. the possibility of a few showers in for a closer look at that in just a moment as when the clock forward, no huge changes to the big picture pattern in other systems for the bay area is going to be aiming quite a bit of moisture towards the pacific northwest. our next chance of significant rain looks like it will be about seven or eight days in the future and probably a week from tomorrow. there is a possibility of a couple of showers north of the golden

gate, but you don't see anything as the sun comes up. more of a mix of clouds and sunshine on tuesday as opposed to the gray skies we have seen today. futurecast thinks the best shower will be tuesday afternoon and hit or miss activity. if you get some showers, it will not be much more than a trace of precipitation. same thing tomorrow night into early wednesday. most of it is to the south and it will fall apart. mostly dry conditions on wednesday and once again, mix of clouds and sunshine. similar story on thursday with that next week system for us immigrants moisture towards the north bay and potentially by late thursday into thursday night. those northbay rain chances are going to be off the charts, but a chance when we had the rest of this week. there is that next good chance of rain for everybody monday night into tuesday and along down the line, but it has been consistent. 6 to 10 day outlook and within normal conditions.

it takes us all the way into early january and definitely need more rain, so hopefully it does had our way. there is that bleak look from the hotel and just gray and smoky skies overhead. temperatures exclude exclusively in the 40s. san jose at 51 degrees. tonight, not too much . mix of upper 30s and lower 40s on tuesday. highs tomorrow with a mix of clouds and sun are going to attend to normal for this time of year, which means mid-to-upper 50s pre-much across the board. mid-50s along the coast and close to 60 degrees in the santa clara valley and mid-to-upper 50s inland in the east bay and mid-50s around the base and 57 for oakland as wel you go far inland. low 50s there. temperatures warm up late this weekend in the christmas weekend. will be several degrees above average for christmas eve on saturday and christmas day on sunday. temperatures in the low to mid 60s in some spots in mind of the northbay and reaching up
