2700 from a single airline, and we're talking about southwest. we asked why and they gave us a statement, apologizing calling it changes. the spokesperson for flight aware says that southwest was hit hard because most of their flights don't travel as far as an airline and they have to make more trips to begin with. >> the turnaround times bottom out. you are not making money because you are on the ground and that's because unfortunately of the route structure that they have. >> southwest, the customers who have had flights that are canceled will get a full refund or credit. it will not expire. so if you know someone out there traveling, take a deep breath and we'll come back to the brutal storm in just a moment. but back here in the bay area, we're getting ready for wet weather. and you are

watching the radar. our version of the big impactful winter storm is a strong atmospheric river, and we have one. >> get your floatys. >> get your floaties. there is a flood watch for the north bay and santa cruz mountains. this will be serious. tomorrow is a first alert day at home, and we are looking here on first alert doppler and this is the warm sector of the storm where you don't really get the impressive part of it. let me show what is coming our way, and looking at the big picture, you have to look at the structure of the pacific for the next 36 hours. follow the long straight line of clouds, and if you get rid of the regular satellite you can see what is fueling this. you can see the higher concentrations of the water in the atmosphere, and this is what it can look like. but here's what it does. we noticed the showers tonight beginning, but then it picks up once we get past midnight and watch how

horrible feeling. i need to get home today. >> reporter: and the cold weather is blamed for waterline breaks in jackson, mississippi, already dealing with ongoing water issues, and now they have no water. the city of jackson issued a boil water advisory. with christmas behind us, it's probably the best time to return the gifts you may not have wanted. six in 10 retailers have charge policies. $132 billion online orders were returned in 2020 and that more than doubled last year and it's taking a toll on retailers. now, there's a response. because of all that, a growing list of retailers are charging return fees, typically $3 to $10. and target and walmart are extending the

over the next few hours especially in the north bay, you will probably get the preview, the hors d'oeuvre, and the warm sector of the storm will get here ahead of the storm itself and here is where the actual system itself gets here with the stronger and widespread rain. that's about 11:00 tonight when the north bay gets it. you will notice the rain with a higher degree of intensity and that line marches across the bay area. and look at the organization right there. this is probably primetime for the storm coming in the pre-dawn hours. one really positive aspect is the heaviest rain and the strongest wind will be coming in the predawn hours before the tuesday morning commute but the high amounts of rainfall will be left over, and this will have an impact on the morning commute even if the heaviest

rain has passed. it will still be rain, and we'll be dealing with the runoff from an 1.5 inch of rain falling overnight. there will be ponding on the road tomorrow. even if the bulk passed by 10:00, 11:00 tomorrow, we will be dealing with the after effects. it's not only the ponding of water on the roadways but also perhaps, debris on the road from the 40-mile-per-hour wind gusts when the system passes through. and we'll keep scattered showers going, isolated thunderstorms maybe but the real bulk is 11:00 tonight through tomorrow morning where we'll get the 1.5 inch, maybe 2 inches. here is the flood watch with low-lying intersections filled with waters and gutters but smaller tribute easier and creeks in the santa cruz mountains and in the north bay. so if you have trouble spots, chances are you

know where they are, you know, the uncontrolled streams and creeks that can overflow banks. that's going to happen with the amount of rain we're going to get tonight, and then the wind advisory covers the areas hit with the flood concern, so you have a double whamming through mainly the coast range and the santa cruz mountains where we will have the strongest rainfall and wind and downed debris through here through tomorrow and with the winds that will come through at about 2:30 in the morning. you will probably sleep through it, might hear it but might get woken up overnight with the stuff hitting the roof. if you are an early on morning commuter, there will probably be debris on the road and likely ponding of water. we are getting very busy. a full seven-day forecast, wednesday, we get a break but it looks like saturday morning into new year's eve day, that's the next storm. it didn't look as big as
