news. on cbs news bay area. hello. are you sick of the storms yet? a lot of us here probably feeling that way. tonight, the bay area got drenched from another round of heavy rain. it floode yet again. we are probably all dreaming about a little bit of sunshine or maybe more than a little bit. you will have to get used to dreary weather. that is going to last until next week. paul is here, we have been talking about this break, it feels like, for centuries, we have really been looking forward to it. >> we need it. >> we do need it emotionally at this point, how long will it last? >> not very long, enjoy it while it is here. we are seeing the last of the showers with the latest rain. tomorrow looks like it will be dry. savor it, run some errands, clean out the drains, gutters around the house, more rain is on the way. we will start with a look at first alert doplar and look at the last of the showers falling over parts of the north bay. showers report inside santa

rosa within the past hour. that activity will come to an end within the next hour or two. we will be dry the rest of toght and dry throughout the day tomorrow. even a little bit of sunshine peeking through the clouds and temperatures will be above average tomorrow. looks like a nice day, overall, something we have not said often in 2023 so far. a flood warning in effect for the russian river. it is going to continue gradually dropping over the next 48 hours or so. it looks as if the next wave of rain moves in it will send the river back just above. mi nor flood stage. that will happen by late on saturday night. and we have another high surf advisory going noeffect into effect tomorrow. rip currents, sneaker waves, a concern, wave after wave of rain, back in the forecast. after that one glorious dry day in the forecast. tomorrow, we will take a look at future cast ahead in the next waiver on the way for friday coming up in a few minutes. >> you have a lot to talk about

tonight. >> again. >> all right, thank you, paul. >> > tonight, an important reminder that just six inches of water on the road can send a car floating away. a driver was found dead at a vineyard. the 43-year-old's car was found yesterday, today, rather, it was submerged in almost 10 feet of water. she is at least the 18th person killed in the california storms. all of this flooding has put some people in the north bay on edge. at least two school districts sonoma county closed tomorrow. people living along the russian river are also bracing for flooding. we go to sonoma county with more on how people are helping their neighbors. >> reporter: i'm at the intersection of 121 and 12 just outside of sonoma where this roadway has been flooded for days. the rain keeps falling these areas have very little time to recovery making some people a little nervous with another storm on the way.

>> the stress is, it is draining. >> reporter: rebecca hammond is a resident and in the last week she lost her power, unlike some of her neighbors show was one of the lucky ones, she got her power back and now giving back to her community. >> tonight, we got loaded baked potato, soup with cheese, sour cream, bacon and green onions. >> she usually comes out every wednesday to feed the unhoused but tonight she is serving anyone a hot meal. >> i know there are a lot of people who don't have power still or, you know, just are tired from the rain, tired of the floods, stress, flooding or not. and so i just wanted to be able to provide a meal if anybody need today. >> reporter: residents are keeping a close eye on the russian river. this is the entrance to johnson's beach. it is flooded up to the street. people heard projections about the river reaching flood stage but those

projections are changing constantly. >> with the rain just being nonstop the stress of if the river will flood that anticipation our house is well, well out of flood range and yet it is still makes your stomach turn, your heart clench. you are just waiting. >> reporter: this family also lost their power but she has been able to operate her food truck thanks to a generator and solarpanel. she says many of her customers have been those living without power. >> that is why we are here to help people without power we are here for them. even if it is raining. if the weather will let us be here we will be here. >> reporter: as the latest round of the storm drenched the north bay, residents biggest concern is this is far from over. with more rain in the forecast they are hoping the russian river does not crest. this community does not have to cleanup from another

major flood. >> it has been doing this roller coaster thing and the roller coaster gets really close. and i know that the low-lying areas are getting hit and the creeks are backing up. >> tonight, more than 12,000 customers across the bay do not have power. pg&e power crews are working but some people are tired of waiting. some have not had power for days well after the flooding has gone down. now, local businesses that actually have it are getting a lot of customer who's are trying to escape their dark and cold homes. dwight's tavern got the lights yesterday they have been running on generators generators. a lot of people without power. >> we lost internet two days ago, no cell service where we live. basically we are living

on an island right now. >> in san jose crews are working to fix a transmission tower that came crashing down in willow glen yesterday, it was a mess in campbell after a power pole fell down in a front yard and a tree crushed an rv and hit an apartment complex. highway 35 is back open again after it was temporarily shutdown to prevent a sinkhole from opening up. cal transis working traffic. this is the picture showing the road coned off. a dip in the roadway could open up and become a sinkhole if enough cars drive over it. now, to alameda county, a neighborhood cut off for days, a major artery between hayward and castro valley is closed after part of the road collapsed into a creek. the damage on a-street near crescent avenue can not be fixed until all of the storms stop. >> you can see the whole

street. >> reporter: he and his family lived on the opposite side of the creek on a-street for the past two years. a new year's eve they watched helplessly as the creek started to flood, mud, buried their backyard and then a terrifying sound. >> we could hear the bridge falling down one by one when we came out we saw the hole. >> reporter: both lanes of a street are closed [ sirens ] >> reporter: forcing vehicles to detour around the washed out road and causing problems for residents who are all asking the same question. >> when will they be fixing that street? >> i don't want to say how long. it could take a significant amount of time. the county is trying to fast track these repairs the best we can. >> reporter: john is the deputy director of alameda county public works. says the level of damage to the roads across alameda county is unprecedented. the repairs can not start until the rain stops. >> we may have to adjust our

design, our plans as we go along. other storms could have a significant impact. >> the damage will cost at least $6 million and it probably will not be finished until this summer. still ahead tonight, kind of hard to escape this video. it is absolutely everywhere. so, what will come next for the san francisco man who hosed an unhoused woman? >> > later, we all rather be swimming in the warm ocean in hawaii rather than stepping in floodwaters, how the approaching storms are even causing problems there.

jif peanut butter. it's that jif'ing good, ludacris changed his flow for it. last night at 11:00 we heard from the man in this video. millions and millions of people have seen this. a lot of people are talking about it. the art gallery owner sprayed an unhoused woman with a hose. a lot of people are wondering what will happen to him and what happened to her. >> reporter: upset, angry, frustrated, much has been said about the viral video of the san francisco gallery owner blasting an unhoused woman with a hose. the city and local leaders had a chance to weigh in and tell us what might happen now. >> it is gut-wrenching. i don't care how frustrated somebody is with a homeless person being in front of their business, that, you don't take things in your

own hands. >> reporter: this supervisor said on wednesday the woman in this video, who often sleeps in the street is safe and is getting help from the medical department. this case, unhoused black woman, known to the community who my office has opinion trying to get help for. >> reporter: the man at the enter of the video who has drawn hate, criticism and death threats told us he has tried to get the woman help before and spraying her in the face was a moment of intense frustration. >> i just snapped when she went off in her tongues and stuff and i just snapped and i pulled the hose up higher and i sprayed her. >> sfpd is investigate figure he can be charged with a crime. the chief called for calm and asked people not to take matters in their own hands and retaliate. >> the people seeing these videos, that went viral, do not

act on your anger and frustration, you will make it worse. >> reporter: scott wiener would not say if he should be charged but admitted frustration over the lack of a brood solution to city streets is boiling over. >> we are creating a tinder box out there. people are frustrated with how things are playing out on our streets. again, absolutely does not excuse hosing someone down. >> oakland firefighters helped rescue people from a car over taken by water oakland fire was helping the fire department deal with all of the flooding. this was a tricky call. they had to balance a ladder over fast-moving water to get the driver and the passenger out. oakland firefighters say two men were trapped on top of their car as all of the water was rushing passed them. thankfully they were able to rescue them. this storm has brought hail and lightning so why not throw in a tornado. ef-1

tornado touched down. the twister tore a 50 yard path. >> it keeps going california earlier this evening it was dropped. the ski resorts are just getting dumped with feet of snow, more is on the way. it is keeping areas like downtown truckie in business even if it means they are edright now. we . it is money falling from the sky there is what we live for out here. >> if this is money falling for the sky it is a major pay period. >> i am happy about it. i am working two jobs here in truckie. most people are running from it this year. like it is an inconvenience, my car will not start, we got to get to this part of town before it is snowing, oh, it is nasty out. i am used to it because i

moved out here because of the nasty. >> reporter: locals are saying even though it is not easy being bury inside snow it was much needed and attracting a lot of visitors. >> a lot of people come up for the snow. on days like this where we are buried in, it slows us down. >> reporter: a lot of local businesses are closed and people are wondering if it was for safety or if the owners simply wanted to take advantage of the ski season themselves. >> you got snow everywhere. so, people get stuck. me and my friend we also were suspected that maybe they are out there skiing the powder which is what we would be doing even if we owned a business. more bad news keeps oncoming, people warned tonight that flooding could turn the monterey peninsula into an island. tomorrow afternoon the river could spill over. the water will have nowhere to go and it could flood high udghway 68 highway 1 and maybe even 101. that means people in monterey, pacific grove and carmel could be trapped with no way in and out. obviously that would be a

really really difficult situation, we don't want to see that happen of courses. >> and potential of 20,000 acres of farmland to be flooded if it is crested where it is forecasted to crest which is part of the trick of forecasting the rise of the rivers. there is a lot of water already. we will start with the path of the monterey river. we will take a look at the chart. it will go up. falling short of the moderate flood stage according to the latest data from the weather service. that is some good news, minor drop compared to earlier forecast. it is still a little too close for comfort. af ter that point when it crests that will be late on friday. a gradual drop in those levels is forecasted. that is from monterey. how it will impact the weather. dry tomorrow, good news in the short term. high pressure strengthening enough to push it off of the coast. warmer across the bay area for tomorrow as well. a temporary reprieve. the rain is going to return to the bay area on friday. and it is

going to send it in waves, once welllet's taa lo at end as doplardar.last shower. cast, a few sprinkles, tomorrow, breaks in the cloud cover. approaching the north bay already just after midnight tonight. it looks like we will see widespread rain and spreading farther inland across the bay area around the peak of rush hour as it seems like it happens every wave of rain we have seen for the past several days. the widespread rain will continue friday morning, about midday, heaviest rain will move out. just off and on showers for the rest of friday. it will be a long-lived heavy rain event. localized flooding is a concern. we could hear rumbles of thunder. the storm prediction center included the entire bay area basically in the general thunderstorm outlook. not talking about the gusty wind or hail threat that we had. cloud-to-ground

lightning possible and tiny hail falling out of the strongest of the storms. the storm will not produce as much wind energy t wi methg we moni strong. it is still strong enough given how wet the soil is for tree damage to occur and power outages. we have another wave of rain heading our way. that will be saturday. the first half of the day, might taper off to lighter showers for the 49ers game, bring a poncho. we start to break out of the pattern monday and tuesday. does not look like we dry out until thursday next week at the earliest. over the next seven-days how much rain will we add up? the low end, another inch and a half of rain on top what we received for most of us, two to four inches of rain in addition to the historic amounts we have seen over the past 2-1/2 weeks.

we have another seven-days to go. a dry break tonight and tomorrow. let's focus on the positive. temperatures middle upper 50s to 60s. dropping down to the 40s and the 50s. it will be a warm day on thursday. high temperatures in the lower to middle 60s. several degrees above average. we are in first alert mode friday and saturday. lingering showers before the next wave of rain moves in on sunday night into monday. we will be monitoring that time frame for a potential first alert as well. and then lingering lighter showers by tuesday and wednesday. hopefully tell not be a problem but so much rain over the past couple of weeks every additional drop brings the threat of localized flooding. >> > straight ahead in sports, a new nfl all pro list is out. this impact player is still reeling from being left off of the pro bowl list weeks ago. i

bridge as it stands in all its glory right now. enjoy those pretty lights while you can. they may be gone for good soon. public art nonprofit is trying to raise enough money for repairs and for upgrades to keep them. they are currently suffering from bald patches where stretches of lights burned out. to bring them back, the founder says he is going to raise $1 million a piece from 10 wealthy people, plus $1 million from small donations. hopefully he does it. >> > hawaii has their own hazards going on. 50 foot waves are crashing over there. high surf warnings across the islands. the national weather service says you can blame the storm system that is about to hit us here in california obviously that creates a surfing spectacle. plus, we should mention, the volcano on the big island is erupting
