restrictions? from kpix5, this is late news with sara donchey on cbs news bay area. >> i'm sara donchey. well, it was really nice to see the sun today, but it was shining down on kind of a mess. the storms are coming back so we could be in store for more. we saw people filling up sandbags once again. almost the entire bay area will be under a flood watch. but the rain is coming before that. paul is here and keeping an eye on all of the weather. >> a few sprinkles hitting the ground north of the golden gate. it is more rain. who would have thought we would be complaining about more rain? but here we are. what's on first alert doppler not problematic but there is more in the future. we will switch to futurecast. a few hit or miss showers tomorrow morning.
1:39 am
widespread light to moderate showers. it will not be reading everywhere all the time. so you might get lucky and dodge their showers for the drive to work. but more waves of rain are likely and this will be accompanied by gusty winds. not nearly the amount of wind energy we have seen with previous systems but enough to post an advisory by the national weather service. heavier rain is on the way saturday. and, another wave of rain. sunday night into monday. so a flood watch goes into effect at 4:00 a.m. on saturday. goes all the way through 4:00 p.m. on monday. so, more localized flooding. more mud slides. more blocked roads are likely. and with the first couple of waves of rain, tomorrow, and again on saturday, you might hear a couple of rumbles of thunder. not quite the level of intensity we had on tuesday, but don't be alarmed if you hear some thunder. we will take a look at futurecast and track the rain through the weekend. >> all right paul, thank you. one of the problem areas we
1:40 am
have been keeping our eyes on, there are evacuation orders in monterey county. the salinas river is flooding and there is fear it could cut off highways turning the peninsula into an island by the time people wake up. >> this is john steinbeck's salinas valley. he wrote east of eden how dangerous this river can be at times. >> the runoff is flooding houses and ranches in the salinas valley. and that is of course a big problem for the people that live there. cars are getting stuck, too. no sign of the driver who may have left this one. we found another sitting in water at least a foot deep. it probably feels like a long time ago now, but last september, we were in the middle of a big heat wave. fairfield and livermore got to 116 degrees. that set a record. very different of course than the kinds of records we have been breaking with all of this rain which has a lot of us asking what about the drought?
1:41 am
has any of this rain helped? last summer, reservoirs were so low, bay area counties started fining people for using too much water. now some reservoirs have so much water it is almost too much and districts are releasing water from dams. here is the difference in a week. that extreme drought we are in has almost vanished for much of the state. so does this mean the end of drought restrictions, too? andrea nakano shows us how marin county reservoirs are doing and if any changes are coming. >> reservoirs are sat capacity in marin county but for many residents it won't change the way they conserve water. for the last two weeks, one storm after another drenched the bay area. >> i grew up in the seattle area and we had some wild ones
1:42 am
there, but these beat those. >> reporter: droughts have improved. she took measures to save water like turning the water on and off during showers. there is just one thing she would like to do now that the reservoirs are full. >> i would like a hot bath. a bubble bath. yeah, just soak. >> reporter: the storm event is one many water districts were hoping for, for years. >> since new year's day, we have recorded more than 15 inches of rain at lake laganitas. one of the district's seven reservoirs. as of tuesday morning all of our reservoirs are full. >> reporter: while supply was low, adrienne martin said they did an incredible job offcutting back water usage by 25%. the rain has completely refilled the reservoirs but marin water will continue to ask residents to follow its restrictions to prepare for future drought conditions.
1:43 am
>> here locally, our water supply is looking good for the next couple of years. but, we are certainly continuing to think about the long term. we have ongoing water use rules that remain in effect for our customers. >> reporter: those restrictions include fixing leaks within 48 hours and only watering your landscaping twice a week. many customers say after living through years of severe drought, conserving won't be a hard thing to do. >> so, ingrained now that trying to conserve water, being more judicious about lawn maintenance. that kind of thing. i think that is probably a lasting habit at this point. >> i think it is a good idea. because we are in california and long term climate change is going to affect us. >> reporter: in san mateo county, highway 92 closed tonight at skyline boulevard. look at that. looks pretty
1:44 am
deep, too. authorities don't know when they will have this fixed. it looks like it is going to take quite a bit of work. so you'll need to find another route and it could take a while to reopen san jose's allen rock park. there is a mess of mud slides, rock slides. boulders are blocking and making places impassable. >> this is the full extent. >> it will probably get worse before it gets better. >> the oakland zoo could be closed all the way up until february because the sink hole keeps getting bigger with more rain. and we are counting down to kickoff. 49ers playoff football. the big game against the seahawks is on saturday. the only problem it will be right in the middle of one of these storms. levi stadium does have a state of the art drainage system. but obviously, field conditions won't be ideal. i mean, i think the
1:45 am
seahawks are probably pretty primed to handle something like that. >> so are the 49ers. they have been practicing the last couple of days in these conditions because they don't have the indoor practice facility because it never rains. and the 49ers are ready for it. 49ers are very healthy. as close to as healthy as you can be entering the playoffs. both linebackers, dre greenlaw and aaron banks expected to play after missing last week piece game with injuries. that's one of the reasons san francisco is favored by close to double digits against the seahawks. the other reason would be the 49ers dominateing the two regular season meetings with seattle. the seahawks actually saw all three quarterbacks in those two games. they beat them by 20 points and eight points but kyle shanahan says when it's the playoffs you can throw the records out the window. >> i look at all games as equal. i know we are favored, stuff like that. this is the
1:46 am
nfl. this is the playoffs. and, last time we played, came down to last possession. expect it to be the same. >> reporter: despite the regular season sweep, the seahawks are 16-5 against the 49ers since the 2013 season. here's the thing. some people are saying pete carroll is the boogeyman. he has the 49ers's number. russell wilson may have been the boogeyman because they are 0-2 without him. >> that's looking at the bright side of things. >> thanks so much charlie. still ahead, she was elvis' only child and followed in his footsteps. we are looking back on the life of lisa marie presley. there has been so much reaction to this video of a san francisco art gallery owner spraying an unhoused woman with a hose. what we are hearing from the mayor tonight. and later, did you grow up in a snack household or an ingredient household? we will explain that. and stay with us as the next round of storms takes aim at the bay area. we have updates for you any time on
