storm. with the latest on evacuation and flood warnings. this just in. san francisco mayor london breed gives her reaction to the video that so many of you are talking about . a gallery owner spraying a homeless woman with a hose. hear what mayor breed had to say about the incident. good afternoon. i'm reed cowan. let's start off with another wet weekend . another first alert weather day across the bay area. take a look at this. a mudslide hit several homes in fairfax . this was behind the homes. we are talking about trees and dirt slamming right into them. they are heavy and cause a lot of damage when they go down. crews are assessing the damage and the safety of those buildings while people try to get their pet containers and things out -- escorted out, in fact. >> i got woken up this morning by a loud knock on the door . it was the fire department saying that the whole hill was coming down . i looked outside and there was mud all over the

backyard and i needed to evacuate. i need to go right now. i packed up my dogs, i threw some clothes together and that was that. >> notice how she can take her eyes off of her house and that he'll. let's take you outside now in the city. dark skies with showers to look at. some areas have seen heavy rain and strong wind gusts. here is a time lapse of the drive on the richmond-san rafael bridge earlier. slick roads out there, plenty of water covering our camera lens . they still have not invented windshield wipers for our cameras. this time lapses from around lunchtime over san francisco. you can see the cloud deck hanging low. first alert meteorologist paul heggen joining me now as people look to the weekend. >> we have another first alert they in the forecast on saturday with another wave of rain headed our way. this is the amount of rain we picked up today which fell within to the range of what we expected. some of the higher elevations,

spots in the northbay , santa cruz mountains over an inch and half . of course, the terrain just lends itself to the possibility of additional mudslides. lower amounts of the rain shed over the santa cruz mountains . there are still showers out there this afternoon. this is like directivity. it makes a mess of the road but it should not lead to any additional significant flooding problems. it will still be a mess for the afternoon and evening commute. futurecast shows that diminishing through the evening but a chance for pop-up showers through the overnight hours. that will be replaced by a chance -- not a chance but the likelihood of widespread rain moving in before the sun comes up tomorrow. this is a possibility that some of the showers will grow into full-fledged thunderstorms. the storm production center has included the entire bay area and its outlook on general thunderstorms which means non-severe storms . a few flashes of lightning's, a few rumbles of thunder wake you up on saturday. the flood watch

goes into effect saturday morning and continues through 4:00 is your p.m. on monday. maureen will move in sunday night into monday. a wind advisory goes from 3:00 a.m. on saturday through noon with wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour resulting in more downed trees and more power outages. also, there is a high surf warning that goes until 10:00 a.m. on saturday and that is not all. the 25 foot breakers are also going to be combining with the high tides which results in a coastal flood advisory through 9:00 on monday. all sorts of advisories over the bay area. to the south, every monterey county community along the rain swollen salinas river is under some kind of evacuation warning or order. at this point, the river is projected to stay in what we know as a minor flood stage in the areas of spreckels until sunday afternoon. meanwhile, a flood warning is in effect through sunday afternoon along the russian river . it is

forecast to reach flood stage this afternoon and then again tomorrow afternoon. the flooding, all the issues that come with it are not just a problem in the bay area but across the entire state at this point. anne makovec watching all of that and is here to tell us how this has become a widespread problem. >> it is a slow-moving disaster. the compounding -- california leaders taking an all hands on deck approach to this mess that does keep on growing and more help is coming from outside of the state. officials from fema and the california national guard spoke about the relief and rescue efforts already underway as well as the additional help they will be getting moving forward as more storms continue to roll through. they are reiterating that everybody safety should be the top priority during these storms. >> public safety is number one. please be aware of what is going on in your area. stay tuned with your local officials and be ready to follow the

directions that they may issue as the storms continue and conditions remain dynamic. we have pre-positioned flood fighting materials such as sand bags, plastic sheeting in various areas throughout the state . we continue to respond to new requests for both materials and expertise . >> the good news is that the effect that these storms will have on the state's drought and reservoir levels with the entire state averaging 9 inches of rainfall over the last 18 days, that puts the average for our reservoirs at about 75% above their normal level for this time of year. that means that many of them do have plenty of storage capacity for the rest of the rain but it depends on which reservoir you are talking about . >> okay. i'm going to sound ungrateful. i know we need the rain. i know we need to fight the drought but can we do it a little more measured? i am over it. >> nobody asked us, unfortunately. >> the blues when there is gray weather.

let's talk about it. it could be a while to reopen san jose's alum rock park where there is a mess of mudslides and rockslides right now. large boulders are blocking trails, making them impassable. the park in san jose east foothills is only five miles from downtown. it is the state's oldest city park. >> this is not yet the full extent of the damage. we are only halfway through the storm. we can imagine that it will probably get worse before it gets better. >> park ranger danny, thank you for taking us up there. in the south bay, they are getting ready for a soggy saturday at levi stadium. that means the teams and the fans, you might have to wear plastic over your head. jocelyn moran is there ahead of tomorrow's big match up between the 49ers and seahawks. >> reporter: both teams will be playing in unfavorable conditions. the 49ers got the chance to practice in these wet to windy conditions because of everything we have experienced this last week. yesterday, that break in the storm that we have, teco crews the

opportunity to get the field ready, spray paint the sidelines, sweep the walkways in the stands . fans also have to get ready. we just met nathaniel and his family in the 49ers team store. they came from new mexico to watch the game tomorrow but not before getting their gear and their ponchos ready. >> the 49ers come out on top 31-17. >> do you feel like the rain will have any impact? >> maybe. might be a lot of running the ball, not really passing. >> reporter: they got everything ready ahead of tomorrow and the rain. nathaniel says he has been a fan since he was born. there were quite a bit of fans here this morning buying gear. the rain this morning did not stop them from the storm . it is not going to stop them from the game tomorrow. if you are heading out there, get your raincoats ready and give yourself some extra time before you get to the stadium just because we know how dangerous those wet roads can be. >> thank you. other people may be heading up to tahoe to enjoy all the fresh snow. you can see a lot

of skiers and snowboarders started their holiday weekend earlier palisades tahoe. getting to the mountain is going to be a little bit of a trick for you. here is a look at conditions this afternoon on i-80 at soda springs. you can see traffic braving it out there but it is slick. the national weather service says mountain travel -- they would nether you not do it. they are warning about a near zero visibility. road closures and significant travel delays. just keep that in mind. as you weigh all of this information, you can continue to track the storms and how they affect you, your plans for the weekend, your drive, all the things important to you, continuing coverage on your phone's app or our website, www.kpix.com. a follow-up now to what we did here on monday which was talk about a story that got millions of hits on social media. we are hearing mayor london breed's reaction, real-time, to that viral video of that san francisco art gallery owner taking his frustrations out on a homeless

woman, spraying her in the face with a hose. this is the video that shocked so many people. we alter the woman, at the end of the hose blast, often sleeps in that area but now we understand she is being cared for. we don't know much more about her, just that she got some care after this. the gallery owner told us that he tried to get her help before and the spraying was a moment of intense frustration. it was caught on camera. no charges filed yet but the mayor tells us she does consider this an assault. >> no other human being should be able to do that to any other human being , period. we know there are people in our streets who are struggling. we know that people are very frustrated but this is not the solution. this is not how you take out your frustrations and your anger. >> we thank mayor reed for going on camera and giving us that response. if you would like to hear the mayor's entire response, we have posted it on www.kpix.com. incidentally, the mayor spoke with us just after celebrating the opening of the new help resources geared specifically to serving the unhoused population like the woman you saw there on the sidewalk. this is the maria x

martinez health resource center on the stevenson street south of market. it will offer a wide range of medical , psychological and social services for vulnerable adults. she got a life-saving blood donation and now she is stepping forward to do her part to help others. >> whatever i do going forward, i want to make sure that i can see the impact of it and that it is something that is good for my community. >> you know her as a leader in our community but you probably did not know she benefited greatly by blood donation. now she is telling her personal story and enco

january is national blood donor month. donating blood can be nerve-racking but all week long we have been working hard to show you the difference it makes in so many lives. we spoke with the deputy mayor of san mateo who says she would b the generosity of others. >> i remember lying in my hospital bed and thinking, my time is not done. i have too much to live for. >> reporter: lisa nash is harvesting fruit for a meal at home as a break from her work as deputy mayor of san mateo, something she loves and would not be able to do without the gift of life saving blood. >> if that blood had not been available to me, i would have died the day i arrived at the hospital.

>> reporter: nash was in an accident that resulted in burns on her body. today she is a dedicated mother in public servant . her only lasting injury she says is a hoarse voice and she attributes her time today to the willingness of others to give blood. >> i am a proud b negative . we are one of the most rare cases. i can only receive what from people like me who have similar blood types . it is even more important that everyone donates whenever they can. >> reporter: the recovery process was gruesome . she underwent several surgeries and two years of the physical therapy but she quickly chose to spend her healthy days in the service of others. >> after my accident, i made a vow to myself. i said, whatever i do going forward , i want to make sure i can see the impact for it . i became much more

focused on my community as opposed to my global community. >> reporter: nash gives blood as much as possible, roughly every eight weeks. >> you get free trail mix or cookies at the end of it . what is not to like? it is just a great way to try to help your community. i have been very successful and i intend to keep on doing more. >> reporter: after her most special text that her donation had actually helped save a keher, she will never stop giving. >> i think about the future. i think about how it is so easy for me to just lie there for 15 minutes and give someone something that i don't know that i am missing afterwards and possibly could save their lives. i do not feel sorry for myself . i just do whatever i can to enjoy the moment because i really know that in the next second i may not be here.

cbs news bay area supporting a half dozen blood drives. we have posted the details on www.kpix.com. time for a look at our forecast with first alert chief meteorologist paul heggen. i saw the video out of fairfax . it makes me worry about the hillside. >> more rain on top of already so far all of the sudden have problems. let's take a look at the radar right now. we have some lingering showers out there this afternoon. the heaviest rain has moved to the east but still some light to occasionally moderate showers for the northbay. the heaviest rain right now is falling over heywood toward san ramon as it climbs over the east bay hills. light shower activity around san jose even in the rain shadow. your rainfall amounts have been less than a 10th of an inch so far. this activity is gradually going to diminish

but heavy rain and wind are back in the forecast, especially the first half of the day tomorrow and then we will be into an off and on pattern this afternoon. one more round of heavy rain is on our way sunday night into monday. after that, we get down into showers tuesday and wednesday and then dry weather by thursday and friday. if you are wondering about the 49ers game, heaviest rain should be over by early afternoon . there will be hit or miss showers the rest of the day. plan on it being wet and windy but at least it will not be the torrential rain that will be falling for the first half of the day. check it out on futurecast. showers are quieting down but a few hit or miss showers possible the rest of the night before the heavy rain starts to move in. that will be hitting the coast before the sun comes up on saturday with widespread heavy rain for half of the day including the potential for a few rumbles of thunder. that moves off to the east so the most likely timeframe for any

flooding concern will be saturday morning and then we get into the off and on showers for saturday afternoon. a little more widespread through the afternoon and early hours. this won't be too organized but it just takes a little bit the rain to cause additional flooding concerns and then we catch a bit of a break. a few hit or miss showers on sunday and then sunday it looks like the showers will be more miss than hit for most of the day before the next wave of brain starts to move in sunday evening with the most widespread rain falling sunday night. this will be accompanied by some gusty winds once again as part of the storm system will be tracking pretty much directly overhead which means we once again could hear a few rumbles of thunder. in terms of the amount of rain after both of these systems, the three-day outlook from the weather prediction center calls for an inch to an inch and half in some of the rain shadow spots. valley in general picking up 2 inches of rain on top of what we have already received in the higher elevations picking up lljust wi the next ditiol two waves of rain. into early morning , tomorrow, the winds

peeking into the 30 to 40 miles per hour range and some gusts up to 50 miles per hour as the heaviest rain makes its way through saturday morning which means more tree damage and more power outages possible. as we mentioned a few minutes ago, travel in the high sierra will be virtually impossible with 3 to 6 feet of snow accumulating during this storm warning. do not head up there tomorrow. wind gusts will be up to 55 miles per hour . it will be a disaster on the roads. in terms of the good news, once that dry patch settles in thursday and friday, it looks like it will continue for several days. the 14 day outlook which takes us through two weeks from today calls for drier than normal conditions, the significant chance. we get a chance to clean up from the heavy rainfall that we received. a little bit of sunshine coming through as the showers move off to the east. the mix of clouds is ominous. across the board, we will drop down tonight to mostly below 50s which is warm

to mid-january. high temperatures not warming up a whole lot because of the rain. it will be cool if you head out to the niners game. at least heaviest rain will fall before kickoff. a chance of thunderstorms again on monday. that is our next alert day and then we taper up to showers by tuesday and wednesday. the really good news is the last two days of the 7-day forecast, whoever thought dry weather would be really good news as parched as we were a couple of months ago? we are talking about dry weather settling in by the end of next week as this active weather pattern comes to a close. >> thank you. thousands of pg&e customers , likely somebody you know have lost power because of the recent storm. 49ers tight end george kittle was in the dark too. he tweeted saying he has been without electricity going on four days and a little help would be appreciated. just trying to prepare for something this week and. we've got our

offense, defense, and special teams on this, george. of course, that something kittle is preparing for is the playoff game against the seahawks tomorrow and charlie walter has more on that. this is the volkswagen red and gold report. >> the 49ers practiced in the sunshine on thursday with the team expecting a much different forecast, saturday's kickoff against the seahawks . the bay area has been dumped with rain in recent weeks . even more is expected this weekend. the 49ers have had plenty of reps to sing in the wet, windy weather lately and according to head coach kyle shanahan, it is helpful for the players to acclimate ahead of time. >> it is good for guys to know what to expect . some guys are not in it and they get surprised. if you are not ready for something mentally -- no one likes sitting in rain or sitting up at air force when it was 10 degrees. if you're not mentally prepared, that can really mess you up. going through it , we will be prepared for it. >> with the red and gold
