landslide dangers we have been seeing across the bay area. and the niners keep their super bowl hopes alive and how. they got off to a slow start versus the seahawks. how they exploded into life in the second half. good evening, i'm brian hackney. >> i'm andrea nakano. a few sprinkles right now, but another round on the way. after today's storms there are still serious flooding and erosion concerns. >> look at conditions earlier in the day. we had a few roads shut down because of mud slides. trees were down. flooding as well. these were some of the pictures we have been seeing across the bay area. with scattered storms and downpours throughout the day.

with the strong winds brought down more trees and power lines putting more people in the dark. while the worst of the rain is behind day, darren ishere to let us know what's next. we havethe poilof few more was at 5:15 when the lightning struck the south tower of the golden gate bridge directly. this was also a storm that then spawned a wind gust reported up to 75 miles an hour. that blew a big rig over. we are not seeing the storms as activates was then. but there are still scattered showers and there has been a well developed line across contra costa county. and, coming across really the san rafael richmond bridge. this could go on for the rest of tonight. isolated on again off again. 6:00 a.m., there is a little more organization possibly coming through so you might get woken up to the sound

of thunder and gusty winds. a brief little downpour. but then that beit. the cus is the mighmonday systemd u see it here. that's the one that is going to deliver another round of widespread heavy rain. enough so that there is a flood watch that stays in effect until monday night at midnight going into tuesday. we will look at that one coming up in a bit. this was today. an inch and a quarter in santa rosa. an inch in livermore. i will see you in the complete forecast in a few minutes. >> thanks darren. a san francisco woman killed by a tree branch that fell at golden gate park. happening this evening at about 5:00. a jogger called for help after she noticed an elderly woman on the ground next to the tree. first responders got there and provided life saving measures but she didn't live. >> i'm sure you are aware of all the flooding. >> in the east bay, flooding conditions on the streets of

one pittsburgh community is so severe residents need a police escort to leave their home. officers knocked on doors this afternoon. offering to help anybody who may need it. >> at first i was worried about it because i don't swim. now i'm in my house relaxing trying to get it off my mind. >> city officials say a sink hole opened upright over an essential storm drain line in the city. ultimately leading to a clogged drain. and over in fairfield, sissoon parkway is shut down at abernathy. there are two large trees toppled by today's storms. one of several road ins the area had to be closed for flooding and debris clearance. people in gilroy have reason to be worried about more flooding because they are recovering from the last downpour that turned the intersection of 25 and 101 into

a tiny lake. with the yuba reservoir at capacity, it is running downhill and down into south gilroy which is what you are looking at. the fundamental problem here? >> a lot of water from mother nature. those atmospheric rivers came in back to back to back and that creek is a small creek and where you saw that flooding is really, it comes down from the mountains there. and goes to the flat area and spreads out. there's a lot of open space in that area. so there were no discussions from our border directors. the norales family owns some of that flooded farmland and their house is uninhabitable. >> betty yu went out to meet them and survey the damage as they try to figure out what comes next. >> reporter: you may remember first seeing this gilroy home behind me from above. it was hit by major flooding. the water went up to the top of the patio door. i caught up with the residents who said it only

took a few minutes for the water to destroy everything inside. mud, water, and debris are everywhere they shldn't . it knocked over furniture and tossed everything several yards. this home on eye first to be submerged during monday's storm. maria morales had left to get gas with her kids. >> she is really sad to see her house like this. >> reporter: it is not just the family's personal belongings. the flood waters destroyed 22 acres of leased land where maria and her husband run jm farmer's organic. a small vegetable and berry operation they started in 2016. they had spent years as farm workers and have no other source of income. they began renting this home three years ago. >> so everything is pretty much at a loss because her land was certified organic and now with all the water coming up, and

the mud, she is no longer, the certification has been suspended. >> reporter: and her equipment has been damaged. all but oneover the family's cars destroyed. maria said some of her chickens were swept away in the flood. alicia juarez contacted maria after reading about her story on social media. standard, she dropped off donations collected by a local church in morgan hill. >> when we first came to this country, we needed help and complete strangers helped us out when my parents found themselves in the hospital taking care of my siblings. and so now, i think that is just how it is raised. >> reporter: they have helped the family set up a go fund me page. >> maria asks if anybody is willing to help, she would like to have the opportunity to be able to lease another property.

niners! >> a lot from excited 49er fans after the team kept their winning streak alive. taking down the seattle seahawks for the third time this season. the faithful braved the rain for a chance to see the 49ers's advance to the wild card round. they were tense in the first half. as the seahawks kept it close. but after the game, it was celebrations all around. now they are waiting to see who the 49ers will play next. charlie walter was at the game and joins us for a look at the action on the field. >> reporter: it was a little dicey at halftime with the underdog see hawks leading by a point. second half, the machine woke up. that is what we are calling the 49ers right now. who have won 11 straight. 49ers quarterback brock purdy took things into his own hands and the defense dominated. seahawks coach pete carroll was ecstatic to have a lead on the 49ers. late in the third quarter, things changed. 23-17, san

tonight. traffic moving at a crawl for almotwo hours.ll use of an overturned big rig. near the north tower. chp released a picture showing what they were dealing with. they figure the powerful winds fueled by thunderstorms flipped the truck over. this is what it looked like around 8:00 tonight when you made it past the police vehicles and past the tow truck. oh, there's the offending vehicle. truck was back on its wheels by then. cars moving again. no information on the condition of the driver. an extremely close call for three people in los gatos. a car hanging on the edge of a cliff. this happened yesterday on old mill pond road. chp officers were able to help the three people get out of the car. officers are reminding residents to only drive if necessary during these storms. well, still ahead, on cbs news bay area, how the effort to bring more mental health services to west oakland found a new base of operations. >> the on beginning issues for

with all the rain we are getting, california's reservoir storage is up to 87% of where it should be this time of the year. that's up from 81% at the beginning of the week. and, take a look at how far we have come just this year. lake sonoma was at 30% capacity on

january 1st. now? it is over half full. so is lake orville which is at 36% 12 days ago. and lake shasta is at 45% after starting the year at a third full. usually a three day holiday weekend is a good time to go to tahoe, but maybe not this time. the last update from caltrans said visibility was still pretty bad and they are keeping both directions on 80 closed. and while snowplows continue to work, they are trying to clear a safe route up there. well, i guess there is a good deal of snow in the mountains and we still have rain to contend with. that is why we have mr. peck. >> we can't rule out the possibility of more thunder overnight. we will take a look at what's happening. the latest item has been some fairly impressive rain that has been moving through inland contra costa county the last hour. you kind of see it now as it is moving off to the east. that

had been pretty impressive. there is more developing here. it is kind of developing along that same line now. and, we are watch tag ing. it is localized today. we are not all looking at this. that's the phase of the storm we are in right now. it is the isolated scattered showers that will stay with us through the remainder of tonight. if we watch it on the high resolution rapid refresh, if you want to look ahead the next 12 hours and get an idea, this would be our next chance to get an organized line of thunderstorms. you might hear a rumble of thunder tomorrow around sunrise. a little before sunrise. and then, that green blob there? that is getting here later. that was 5:00 in the afternoon. that's the next storm. we will look at that in

rainfall, i showed you numbers for the cities. santa cruz mountains gotten three-and-a-half inches of rain. happy to say the flood warning has now expired. you still need to be very careful anywhere near that river. near the creeks, streams, anywhere in the santa cruz mountains. sugar loaf ridge state park got two and a quarter. here is why everybody is in a flood watch. until monday night at midnight going into tuesday. this storm right here is going to keep more rain coming. now, this looks less impressive now than it did a little earlier today and it has gone back to an original idea in the forecast model. there is rain here. if we look at the totals, just generalized idea. we are down to half an inch of rain. we could get an inch in the south

bay. and the numbers will be bigger in the santa cruz mountains. even if it holds this path. flood watch. until stres and creeks approaching their banks. some street level flooding perhaps on the monday morning commute. and the wind will pick up. but watch the timing on it. it is not until later. so that is monday afternoon. and, the vulnerability is still there for downed trees so that is something to think about on monday. the next system after that is the last one. if we look at it on the long range futurecast, we can go ahead to wednesday. there's a system coming in a little too far north. that's it. because after that, the storm train is going to turn off. there is nothing else coming after that for the next ten days or more. and for that wednesday system, we are looking at maybe four tenths,

maybe half an inch. tuesday nothing is going on. for monday on your holiday, martin luther king jr. day, you plan on rain in the morning. by the time we get to noon, your plans are a go. it will not be a rain-out happening the second half of the day. so whatever your plans might be, keep them. just know you might have a scattered shower to deal with on monday. we will update that. this storm has been wonky. we will update you every time it changes until it gets here so you will be prepared. sports is after the break and we have the third largest comeback in nfl post season history. and good news

a grass roots mental health response group has a new home in west oakland. >> a community center dedicated to helping those in crisis. john ramos explains how the group can do it work without

the help of police. >> reporter: for years some people in oakland have said there need to be something other than a police response to a mental health crisis. the city was slow to respond. so the people created one themselves. and today, it found a new home. while others call for more police to fight the gun violence gripping the city of oakland, one group sees the cops as the problem. the antipolice terror project or aptp has led the call for defunding law enforcement and shifting half the money given to opd to mental health and wellness services. on this day, the effort became very real indeed. >> we are making a promise to this community. with the opening of these doors. >> reporter: atpt's cofounder cat brooks announced the opening of the people's house. a new brick and mortar community center that will offer health and wellness services from massage and herbal medicine to

psychological counseling from volunteer mental health professional. >> i really see it as the healing center. a balm in a community that has been devastated by everything from gentrification to environmental pollution. to poverty. the gun violence. >> reporter: but the build willing also be home to mental health first. a volunteer team that responds to mental health crises without police being notified. coordinator rebecca ruiz says they can deescalate a tense situation. >> to me hark is completely different than the police who are coming into the situation, sometimes brutalizing people, trying to incarcerate them, not listening to what they are going through. >> reporter: though mental health first is not part of the 911 system and must be called directly, dr. daniella said she was kept busy from 8:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. >> we get calls directly from people in crisis but also from their family members. their

neighbors or people in the street. so, we see that as a success. people are calling us and not the police. >> it doesn't matter what is happening in front of them or how many times you assure them that 911 is not going to result in a badge and a gun. they are not going to dial that number because their experiences have taught them it is dangerous to do so. >> reporter: the aptp opened the center without any help from the city and in fact have been largely at odds with local government. but that may be changing as the new mayor sheng thao attended the event. something that not would have been expected or welcomed from the previous mayor. >> can they expect more of a partnership with the city on these things? >> i'm more than happy to talk with aptp and look forward to the dialogues. >> they say they have been operating in oakland more than ten years now. they say the opening of the people's house is a promise that they are here
