well, good morning, and good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. breaking overnight, a man who authorities say opened fire in an indiana walmart was shot and killed by police. officers responded to a report of an active shooter at the store in evansville last night. police say the suspect weaved through the aisles of the walmart before officers shot and killed him. authorities say the suspect wounded at least one other person in the store. the victim was taken to a hospital. a suspect was not immediately identified. no officers were wounded. actor alec baldwin faces up to five years in prison for the deadly 2021 shooting on the set of the movie "rust." prosecutors in santa fe, new mexico, say baldwin and the film's weapons specialist will be charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of cinematographer halyna hutchins. the film's director was also wounded when a gun baldwin was holding discharged during rehearsal. jarred hill is in new york with more on this.

good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. alec baldwin's lawyer says that he was just listening to firearms professionals on set who he says told him the gun didn't have any live rounds. the new mexico d.a. believes that doesn't totally put the actor and producer in the clear. a new mexico district attorney announced actor and producer alec baldwin will be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter for the 2021 fatal shooting of cinematographer on the set of "rust." >> if you act with regardless regard for one's life you should be held to account for that. that's what we're doing. >> reporter: baldwin was rehearsing a scene with hutchins and joel souza when the gun went off. souza was also wounded. here's what baldwin told investigators at the time. >> it should have been a cold gun with no rounds inside or dummy rounds. i take the gun out slowly, i

turn and cock the pistol, bang it goes off. she hits the ground. >> reporter: baldwin told abc news he didn't actually pull the trigger. prosecutors say the forensics from the fbi report indicate otherwise. >> this was recklessness. this was a negligent discharge of a firearm because he pulled that trigger. >> reporter: cbs news legal analyst rikki klieman says baldwin may have thought the case was behind him after a settlement with hutchins' family that allowed the movie to restart filming. >> it might in the end force a plea to a lesser charge. >> reporter: the film's armorer, hannah gutierrez-reed, is also facing two involuntary manslaughter charges. assistant director david halls who handed the gun to baldwin agreed to plead guilty to negligent use of a firearm. now since this happened, there's reportedly been an increased focus on firearm safety on these sets. even an increasing use of technology that could make real gunfire of any kind obsolete. >> very interesting. jarred hill in new york. thank you so much.

the faa is blaming contractors for last week's computer breakdown that led to a nationwide grounding of all flights. the agency says contract employees were working on a system that notifies pilots of potential hazards when they unintentionally deleted files. the faa had to reset the system and halt air travel. that disrupted more than 11,000 flights. it says the preliminary review found no evidence of a cyberattack or malicious intent. and legendary folk rock musician david crosby has died after what his wife said was a long illness. he rose to fame first with the birds and then with crosby, stills, nash, and young. the grammy winner was one of the most influential singers of the so-called woodstock generation of the 1960s and '70s. bradley blackburn has more on crosby's life and legacy. ♪ >> reporter: born in los angeles

in 1941, david crosby recorded his first solo album in 1963. his music career quickly grew when he became a founding member of two iconic folk rock bands -- the birds and crosby, stills, nash, and young. >> singing, that's a joy. really fun to do. >> reporter: a 2019 documentary looked back on crosby's long and storied career on stage and behind the scenes. despite decades of success, he displayed modesty at a comedy and music benefit concert in 2013. >> i was going to say music to walk out by. i hope the audience will stick around after the comedians. i'm going to cap it with a couple of songs. ♪ >> reporter: vocal harmonies and inventive guitar playing put his music into another realm for his fans and music critics alike. he was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame two times and entered the songwriters hall of fame. crosby lived the life of a rock

and roll star. a 2014 "rolling stone" article called him rock's unlikeliest survivor. david crosby was 81. bradley blackburn, cbs news. tributes to david crosby poured in on social media including from fellow musicians. onetime bandmate graham nash wrote, "he spoke his mind, his heart, and passion through his beautiful music and leaves an incredible legacy." crosby was the biological father for two of melissa etheridge's children expect she wrote, "his music and legacy will inspire many generations to come. a true treasure." and from roseanne cash, "i'm grateful david crosby lived and so very sad he's gone." breaking overnight, about 500 people were evacuated from a fire in seoul, south korea. it spread through a densely packed shantytown. about 60 makeshift moments were destroyed. there were no reports of deaths or injuries, though. officials believe the fire began

in one of the homes made with plastic sheets and plywood. the cause is under investigation. and after an eight-month investigation, the supreme court says it cannot determine who leaked a draft of the court's ruling overturning roe v. wade. the court said 97 employees including justices' law clerks swore under oath they did were disclose the draft opinion. it's unclear if the justices or their spouses were questioned. the investigation report said it's unlikely the leak came from a computer hack. as california cleans up after weeks of historic storms, president biden got a firsthand look at some of the damage. mr. biden took an aerial tour of parts of northern california yesterday. he then visited the beach town of capitola where he walked along the splintered boardwalk ad spoke with owners of businesses hit hard by the storms. >> we know some of the destruction is going to take years to fully recover and rebuild.

but we've got to not just rebuild, we've got to rebuild better. we've got to rebuild better. >> at least 21 people died in the storms. damage could be as high as $1 billion. and the family of a 6-year-old boy who shot and wounded his teacher in a virginia classroom this month is addressing what happened for the first time in a statement. it partly reads, "our family has always been committed to responsible gun ownership and keeping firearms out of the reach of children. the firearm our son accessed was secured." the parents also said their son suffers from an acute disability and was under a care plan that included one of them going to school with him. they said that was the first week they were not with him. the teacher, 25-year-old abby zwerner, was released from the hospital this week and continues to recover. police have said the boy's mother legally purchased the gun. coming up, surveillance at sea. a russian spy ship has been spotted along the u.s. coast.

"usa today" reports that the u.s. hit its debt ceiling prompting the treasury department to begin taking, quote, extraordinary measures to avoid the government from defaulting on its obligations. house republicans and the biden administration are locked in a battle over raising the debt limit.

riots broke out on the streets of paris yesterday. police used batons and teargas to hold back demonstrators who were upset over the government's plan to raise the retirement age to 64. officials say the plan is needed to keep the pension system financially viable. an estimated 1.1 million people protested across france. unions said the number was much higher. there was a major hack at t-mobile affecting tens of millions of customers, and prince harry's tell-all may if down as one of the bestselling memoirs of all time. shanelle kaul has those stories and more in today's cbs "money watch" report. >> reporter: stocks closed lower again thursday with both the dow and s&p marking a third straight day of losses. the dow losing 252 points tuesday. the nasdaq down 104. the s&p 500 fell by 30 points. data from 37 million t-mobile customers has been stolen. the u.s. wireless carrier says
