with you. i'm anne-marie green. we begin with the latest gun violence in america. in just the past three days there have been three mass shootings in california. the most recent happened overnight in oakland. police say a gun battle at a gas station left one person dead and at least seven others injured. so far no arrests have been made. hours later in southern california south of oakland, seven people were killed. at another dance studio 11 were killed in monterey park. nine others were wounded there. a shooting at dance hall was stopped when a suspect was confronted by a 26-year-old man who wrestled his weapon away. nichelle medina is in monterey park with more on all of these shootings. nischelle, good morning.

>> reporter: this morning there are more questions than answers. the quiet was shattered monday in the northern california coastal community of half moon bay after police found four victims shot and killed and a r three more victims who were killed were discovered at another business about a mile away. >> this is a devastating tragedy for this community. >> reporter: the suspected shooter, 67-year-old chunli zhao was arrested two hours later in a sheriff's substation parking lot. the sheriff said the weapon used in the attacks was found in his car. >> zhao was believed to have acted alone, and there is no further threat to this community. >> reporter: investigators are working to determine a motive. that incident at half moon bay comes just a couple of days after a mass shooting here at monterey park in los angeles.

outside of city hall mourners brought flowers and candles to honor the victims of saturday's tragic shooting during a lunar new year celebration. >> we will get through this. we are strong. >> reporter: a vigil was held last night to remember the now 11 deceased victims all over the age of 50. among the dead are star dance studio owner my nhan and his aunt my my nan. a vigil was held to remember the >> he shot her first and proceeded to go inside and shoot everyone else. >> reporter: police say the second shooting was stopped when the second son of the owner stopped him. the suspect huu can tran died of a self-inflicted gun wound after he shot himself in his van. the governor was here at a meeting with victims yesterday when he got word of the latest shooting.

it took place yesterday at an alternative education program designed to keep at-risk youth away from terrible. officials say the injured man is a rapper who is the program's founder. an 18-year-old man was arrested and charged with murder. two other teenagers were taken into custody. police say the shooting was gang-related. and several investigations are underway after a tennessee man died days after he was arrested by police earlier this month. the family of tyre nichols watched the police body cam footage for the first time yesterday and their attorney called the confrontation violent and appalling. elise preston has more. >> all i can hear my son say is what did i do? where is the humanity in all this? you beat him like a dog in the street. >> reporter: 29-year-old tyre nicholls' mother could only watch part of the beating between the police and her son.

>> it was an unadulterated, unabashed nonstop beating of this young boy for three minutes. >> oh, my god. >> not only was it violent, it was savage. >> oh, my god. >> reporter: nichols was pulled over january 7th. he died from his injuries three days later. >> we know he was tased, we know he was pepper sprayed, and we know he was restrained. >> reporter: last friday five of the officers involved were fired. all had been on the force between five years and 2 1/2 years. in a statement memphis police said we have determined that five mpd officers violated multiple department policies including excessive use of force, duty to interview, and duty to render aid. his mom describes her son as loving beautiful sun sets and skateboarding he was on a break when he was

pulled over by police. >> i feel helpless. i feel like i let my son down. and i wasn't there for him when he really needed me. >> reporter: the district attorney announced that the video will be released once investigations are complete. so that could happen either this week or next. elise preston, cbs news, memphis, tennessee. four more members of the right wing extremist group the oath keepers were convicted for seditious conspiracy for their role in the january 6th attack. the federal grand jury found them guilty of using force to stop the peaceful transfer of power after the 2020 election. it comes weeks after a different jury convicted the group's lead over the same charge. in a separate trial, a man photographed with his feet on the then desk of house speaker nancy pelosi was convicted of all eight charges. richard barnett faces a multiple-year prison senate. the senate judiciary committee is expected to hold a
