>> they are not black, they are blue. it's a fraternity and a brotherhood. >> reporter: the protesters marched to the oakland police department and some say it's time to get rid of all police departments. chief bill scott says it's not fair to lump together as fpd and the memphis police department. >> hold people accountable to policies and create a culture where that type of behavior is unacceptable and i think we have a culture in this organization where that type of behavior is unacceptable. >> reporter: reverend amos brown invited -- to talk about police brutality. yolanda williams is the president of officers for justice. her organization has been pushing more black and brown officers to police their own communities. >> in 2023 we have seen the

beloved town. she even thought about how to address her community if it does. >> i was always praying every day and planning what i would say to the community if this happened as an african-american in a position of power. what would i say? i was praying that it never happened. >> reporter: changes she says is the only way to keep herself and her community safe. >> is the passion of the people and the spirit of the grit. when there's nothing here, there is still something. i want a different story to tell. >> reporter: in a statement saturday the oakland police denounced the killing of tyre nichols and other incidents of police brutality and says such incidents do not represent the men and women of the oakland police. >> similar protests took place across country calling for police reform but in memphis that community is focusing on the death of tyre nichols. >> he asked a question that has

yet to be answered. what did i do? >> reporter: that was the theme of the sermon at the memphis church today as the community struggles to come to grips with the death of tyre nichols. >> of these tactics need to change. all across the board. >> the five officers involved have all been filed and charged with second-degree murder. several sheriff deputies and firefighters have also been relieved of their duties pending an investigation. >> if you were an officer or first responder and sat there and watch this young man die and you did nothing to help resuscitate him and did nothing to give him aid it and you are just as culpable as the people who beat him down and killed him. >> tyre nichols's funeral service will be held on wednesday. it has been nearly one week since seven over killed in a

road is now reopened in the santa cruz mountains. part of that road was washed out because of all the rain. the road runs from boulder creek all the way to 17 at lexington reservoir. a temporary truck traffic signal will stay in place until the road is up and running. last night we introduce you to families at this oakland apartment complex. those are the families. they run out of their homes for nearly one month after floodwaters destroyed the electrical service on new year's eve. the folks are fed up with what seems to be a lack of urgency by the city. >> we need help. it's time to get into the phone and put pressure. come help us. >> the apartment building sits next to the collison coliseum b.a.r.t. station and is owned by bart. >> they say the city -- >> although the residents have in place in nearby hotels
