in connection with th brutal beating of tyre nichols at the hands of officers. nichols died three days after the violent traffic stop earlier this month. and it comes as two more officers were suspended including preston hemphill. the other officer was not identified. five other cops were fire and charged with second-degree murder. three emergency responders who arrived on the scene after nichols was beaten were also dismissed yesterday. jarred hill is in memphis with more on this. jarred, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. we're seeing this sphere of punishment expanding in relation to the death of tyre nichols. something that law enforcement leaders were saying was possible. one of these individuals is someone that a lot of people had questions about once that video was released. just a warning, some of the video and audio in the story might be tough to listen to. the memphis police department now says two more officers, one of them preston hemphill, have been suspended pending an investigation.

all of this following the beating of tyre nichols. this is hemphill's body cam from the initial traffic stop. it shows him trying to tase nichols before he runs away. hemphill later said this. >> i hope they stomp his ass. >> reporter: hemphill was not at the second incident where the five officers beat nichols. those five are being charged with second-degree murder. >> that was a game of men attacking a 150-pound guy. >> reporter: the memphis fire department has also announced it has fired two paramedics and a lieutenant for not following policies and protocols. nicholls was not given crucial medical assistance. he died three days later. >> everyone's walking around nonchalantly like it's business as usual. >> reporter: the policemen in the video could face more disciplinary action. the district attorney's office

has said their investigation is ongoing and there could be more charges in the future. >> we're praying for the hurting people in the community. >> reporter: a prayer vigil was held last night in the neighborhood where the tragic incident happened. friends of nichols also gathered in his hometown of sacramento. >> i'll miss him. he was more than a skateboarder. he was somebody that was going to comfort you. >> reporter: a funeral service for nichols will be held tomorrow. now meanwhile the director of the congressional black caucus has said that they have had conversations with president biden about possible executive action that he could take regarding police reform as they work on legislation on capitol hill, which right now potentially looks like it could be stalled. meanwhile they're also asking for president biden to make policing reform a focal point in his upcoming state of the union address. >> jarred hill in memphis. thank you, jarred. ten people were wounded in a drive-by shooting in lakeland, florida. police say it appears that four people inside a car fired from all four windows as the vehicle slowed down yesterday. two people are in critical

condition. the victims are all men between the ages of 20 and 35. investigators believe there was a drug sale going on at the time. they believe the shooting was targeted. >> i've been here 34 years, and i can tell you i have never worked an event where this many people have been shot at one time, ever. >> the car sped away after the shooting. police are searching for the suspects. tens of millions of americans are under winter weather alerts from texas to pennsylvania. the national weather service says a very dangerous ice event with a mix of sleet and freezing rain could create hazardous travel conditions and lead to power outages. planes had to be de-iced yesterday in dallas where hundreds of flights were cancel or delayed. in oklahoma, sleet and freezing rain made for difficult travel conditions. forecasters say some states could see up to half an inch of sleet and ice. and police are warning that

a man suspected of kidnapping and torturing a woman in oregon may be using a date p app to find more victims and to avoid capture. authorities are searching for 36-year-old benjamin foster after a woman was found bound and severely beaten last week in the city of grant's pass. investigators say he's extremely dangerous and may attempt to alter his appearance. police say in 2019 he held his then girlfriend captive for two weeks in las vegas. and students return to class at a virginia elementary school more than three weeks after a 6-year-old boy allegedly shot and wounded his teacher. police say the boy brought a gun to his first grade class and intentionally shot the teacher. there was increased security yesterday, including police officers, metal detectors, and clear backpacks for kids. >> he said he had a great day. he seems upbeat and happy. >> everything did go well. i think it could have gone so much worse. >> this is a strong community, and we're here united, and we're here to welcome back our kids.

>> the school administrators have been accused of ignoring warnings the boy had a gun that day. the principal has since been reassigned and the superintendent was fired last week. and the death toll has climbed past 90 after a side suicide bombing inside a crowded mosque in pakistan. yesterday's attack took place as more than 300 people were praying in a mosque inside a police compound. officials say most of the victims were policemen. more than 170 people were hurt. a pakistani taliban commander claimed responsibility for the attack before a spokesman distanced the group from the bombing. secretary of state antony blinken will meet today with the palestinian president. blinken is urging calm between israelis and palestinians after one of the deadliest weeks of fighting in years. imtiaz tyab has more from israel. >> reporter: after days of deadly violence that saw seven people killed including six israelis outside a synagogue in
