today they dedicated a new marble space to the hero known for playing shang-chi. >> reporter: on monday the warriors unveiled a new space for him. on monday the team unveiled a new space for fans with autism. thanks to a new donation, the warriors game day experience is now more comfortable and welcoming for such fans. he unveiled the renovated room named after him before the team took on okc.

>> for a number of these families that have mothers, fathers, children with sensorev emunth resouraren't there and is not the existence of a sensory room to cope with these moments where the lights, the sounds, there is an overstimulation of the senses. >> reporter: the room has puzzles and games meant to calm and smooth fans. the space was built with the supportive culture city, a nonprofit that creates sensory inclusion for those with invisible disabilities, which one in six people do within the u.s. >> it was started by this amazing man who has a wonderful son who is nonverbal. he has taught me, personally, so much about what it means to make it possible. >> reporter: simu liu says that he wants to use his platform to advocate and lift up others in

need. >> the addition of a sensory room is critically important, because it is not just about making life bearable but about making it exceptional. >> reporter: this was an exceptional moment for 14-year-old davey. >> that is very cool. >> he has autism, so to sometimes crowds can be difficult to be around. this makes it easier to come to a game. >> it is as easy as coming here for a few minutes, coming down, looking at the lights. >> reporter: the room is also open to mothers who need to nurse, people with ptsd, or anyone who needs a quiet space. we all know all too well about earthquakes here in the bay area, but people in turkey and syria are living through this nightmare. the numbers ar shocking. more than 4000 people have died. the death toll is still climbing tonight. there

have been hundreds of aftershocks, some almost as big as the initial quake. our john ramos spoke to members of the local turkish community who are watching this unfold from afar and worrying about their loved ones. >> reporter: the video coming out of turkey looks like a hollywood disaster film. giant apartment buildings falling to the ground as people run for their lives. the 7.8 magnitude quake has been followed by dozens of aftershocks and thousands of lives are feared lost in the massive piles of rubble. rescue workers both in turkey and neighboring syria ar begging the world for assistance. >> now this is a disaster area and we need help from everyone to save our people! >> reporter: as the nightmare unfolds, turks and syrians in the bay area are trying to make contact with loved ones.

>> i know in the united states, in the bay area, we are still struggling and trying to figur out what really happened. we know what happened. but there i still a little hope that this i not as bad as it looks like. >> reporter: in 1999, a similar -sized quake rocked istanbul. the bay area turkish society says the destruction may be worse this time. >> a lot of the new buildings built by the government hospitals, airport, transportation channels, they are all damaged. everyone is trying to get help to them, however the infrastructure is dismantled. >> reporter: she says that can' be considered an accident. she said government officials have ignored the scientific

community, disregarding modern building standards in a headlon rush to throw buildings up quickly. >> the economy is depending on this turning of draconian level of construction, and the rules weren't followed. >> reporter: she fears that rescue or relief efforts by the government will be equally inept. >> unfortunately the situation is going to unfold even worse, but people are just helping themselves right now. i don't think there is any hope happening from an organized pattern that was prepared ahead of time. >> reporter: both of the local turks that we spoke to last tim recommended that donations be made in the form of cash since it may be a while before supplies can reach the area. they also said that donations should be made to private organizations, not government sources, because it will be mor likely to end up where it >>ytime wesee an earthquake of this magnitude, we are reminded of the risk that we have here in the bay area. wha

would something look like that here? >> it would be tragic but we would see nothing like the scal of tragedy that has unfolded in turkey and syria. but we look a a number of faults. a number of faults crisscrossed the bay area, but there are a few that we look at . it is the san andreas fault, the calaveras fault, but also the hayward fault. it has the highest probability over the next 20 years, according to a study tha was done about 10 years ago. there is a recent survey that the u.s. geological survey did along the hayward fault, centered between oakland and sa leandro. you can see how quickl the shades of orange and red indicating major shaking spread away from the epicenter within the first 15 to 20 seconds afte the quake occurred. elsewhere

in the simulation, there is the potential for up to 800 fatalities. it is, again, a fraction of what they have seen in turkey and syria, but this would be a horrific event that would help to improve these codes, which would really overwhelm the medical infrastructure around the bay area as well. it is unfortunately a matter of when and not if, so it rings the importance of being prepared, having the emergency kit ready to go so that you know what to do in case it happens. >> obviously our thoughts with everyone in turkey and syria tonight. just a horrible story unfolding there. thank you for putting this in perspective. tonight, stanford universit students called for a protest calling for the university to get rid of campus police. this comes after a e blk man more t a week ago after he refused to get out of his car. hundreds of

students were marching there, this after a graduate student saw the incident and then tweeted t ent eaabouial police it has sparked a lot of emotion and a lot of fear on campus, especially for black communities that have never really felt truly safe here wit the amount of policing. >> the officer involved said there had been a lot of package thefts on campus and became suspicious after he saw a lot o packages in the man's car. the man was later cleared but cited for possession of ravana. oakland police chief sick and tired of being on administrative leave. he wants his job back, now, and he is going to ask the mayor for just that. the mayor put him on leav after it was revealed that he was handled officer misconduct in the department. the chief

the coast guard who pulled this off just graduated with his first rescue ever. it turns out the guy the rescued had stolen the yacht! the maneuvering was a ttle but it doesn't end there. police in oregon saw the video. they thought they knew the guy, and it turns out they have been looking for him after he allegedly found himself leaving dead fish on the porch of the house of the goonies and posting it to facebook. i don't know! he was arrested in oregon on theft, criminal mischief and other charges. he is from canada and is wanted by authorities there for even more criminal charges. >> what? >> yeah. >> okay. do we know what the charges are? >> a long laundry list of other things. >> like not paying for his coffee at tim horton's? >> that resembles the ss minnow from gilligan's island!
