on top of the nightmare that we're going through with the flooding on the house. >> new at 11:00, when will bay area homeowners get a break? this family says they need one from one flood after another. hi, i'm sara donchey. it was an absolute mess out there today. we were warned. the snow moved in this evening and we saw the winds that really stole the show. they took down power lines, no surprise there and a lot of trees, following everywhere on houses, cars across roads. one of our photographers was in the middle of the interview with a man about that problem when another tree crashed down right behind him as they were talking. >> it looks like it's leaning. there it goes.
11:01 pm
there it goes. oh my god. oh, there goes my neighbor's house. >> that was in redwood city. luckily nobody got hurt, but obviously that amoun damage is devastating for anybody. we also saw power lines swaying in the wind and this video was shot over in concord. the biggest problem has been these outages. pg&e outages across the bay area. at one point nearly 300,000 customers were without power. this is the pg&e live outage map right now. obviously still some significant power outages. here is where it stands by the numbers. more than 200,000 customers are in the dark right now. most of them are in the south bay on the peninsula and over the east bay. betty yu was down in the peninsula today. a family who has been hit by damage over and over. betty? >> reporter: well sara, right now this entire block is without power. i'm just off el camino hill and

ridgeville drive. here is what we're seeing. brewing in particular, a giant eucalyptus tree. tonight, one redwood city family says their home has been saturated on and off since the beginning of the year. >> we basically did not sleep all last night knowing there was going to be heavy rain all night. so every hour we were waking up. my husband would go and check the hallway to see if it was flooding because we didn't know if this was going to work. >> reporter: despite their efforts, water still flowed underneath the house. maria and her husband, justin, are temporarily staying at their in-law's home. >> i shot up out of bed and just saw water gushing. >> reporter: their home hasn't had a chance to dry out from sunday's storm, which flooded
11:03 pm
the bottom floor. fans are running nonstop. tuesday's high winds made matters worse. >> i gate text from my husband that a tree went down and took down a part of our fence. so on top of the nightmare that we're going through with the flooding on the house, now a part of our fence is down. >> reporter: damaging winds knocked down several trees and power lines in nearby burlingame. creating widespread power outages. there was an electrical fire on el camino and rose dale, involving down power lines that burned a newly installed residential fence and melted the asphalt. firefightersput out new fires at this spot as the electricity came down. >> and throughout the day it was getting smaller and bigger. about an hour later, you could hear the electricity actually sparking. at one time the electrical cord was hissing. >> reporter: she heard the commotion from inside her home. >> it was pretty scary because
11:04 pm
we have a big power line right behind our house. we thought we would have to be evacuated. i had a little bag packed. >> the wind was very high. everything was shaking. the noise, even though the house is fairly new, we got it a couple of years ago. you could feel the window, the chimney, everything. >> reporter: thankfully they did not lose power, but there is no easy fix to their problems. >> we just can't get a contractor out here right now, but the rain, it's just whatever is happening has been a nightmare. >> okay, so whenever we do these stories and we talk about big power outages. everybody wants to know how long it will take for crews to come out to get the power back on. obviously there's down trees. what's the eta we know of to fix all of this? >> reporter: sara, actually the resident just came out here asking us if we knew of an eta because they have not gotten one from pg&e. i can tell you that emergency
11:05 pm
crews in general just can't get to all these trouble spots fast enough. one hillsborough homeowner said a tree fell on her home today. a crew came out, took out a part of it from that home and said they will need to have to move on to the next one a eh the job. so they have their hands full right now. >> obviously we're grateful for whatever work they were able to pull off. this was a busy day for them for sure. thank you so much. palo alto also had a tree damage there. people had to be rescued after a tree fell onto a house. like a lot of cities in the bay area, they've had damage. one woman even wore a helmet on her run today just in case. >> i mean there are trees down everywhere. i went for a couple of miles and saw many trees down and falling in real time. >> better safe than sorry probably. it was not a good day to be flying out of sfo either. people were stuck on planes for
11:06 pm
hours today because the wind caused a ground stop and still delays through midnight. today, almost 500 flights were delayed. 27 were canceled. paul was talking about the wind there earlier. you know, we say things like gusty. i don't know if that quite covers. center literally hurricane forced winds and 75 miles an hour gusts and that's the threshold of the actual hurricane. that's what we were talking about today and did a ton of damage across the bay area. we'll go to the video wall here. all of these icons, they're separate flooding or wind damage reports across the bay area. over 150 of these once again over the last 24 hours. just covering the map. considering how widespread the issues were. take a look at the strongest wind gusts. the hills above got up to 90 miles an hour as we had that 74 miles an hour gust at sfo right at noon. in the lower elevations where the winds are always gustier and how they funnel through the san
11:07 pm
bruno gap. most spots had 45 to 55 miles an hour gusts, but certainly strong enough to do a ton of damage results, and now those winds are backing down. just three locations reporting any wind gusts that are substantial and only 17 miles an hour right now at petaluma. the strongest wind is in oakland over 30 miles an hour. the high wind warning was canceled a little bit for their explanation and the wind will continue to retreat throughout the rest of tonight. and the rain has come to an end as well. so the good news will continue. a couple of dry days, especially what we need, especially over 4.5 inches of rain. for a lot of the bay area, it was around 1 inch of total rainfall. not quite as much as what we picked up last week. but still these amounts falling onto saturated grounds enough to cause flooding issues. look at all the dots on the map telling you how much of that wind damage and flooding we saw across the bay area today. in the high sierra, the snow is
11:08 pm
actually still continuing to fall. we'll bring sara back in and talk about some of the issues they've had up in that direction. >> oh. >> there is more in stored next week. >> it's hard to believe that, but this is bear valley ski resort south of tahoe before and after. before. and then that's how much snow they got. that's the ski lift. it's almost to the top. >> come on now. >> i know, i've never seen anything like that over there. obviously they got a little dusting. >> that's the perfect picture to put that into perspective. but of course, that snow weighs a lot, and it's continuing to press down on everything especially the roof tops. look at the icicles as it melts. >> you've been talking about this for a couple of days. the weight of snow got dangerous as roofs in south lake tahoe have been collapsing there. san geronimo hasshawnte passmore has more on that.
11:09 pm
>> we're wondering what will happen next. >> reporter: the roofs are crashing not only on houses, but businesses. following the city of south lake tahoe's announcement of structural concerns near heavenly village, a few more stores fopped up including this t.j. maxx. we're asking how many buildings have been undermined? >> we've seen multiple incidents with some roof failures, red tagging buildings, just because they're unsafe. fortunately no one has been hurt. >> reporter: south lake tahoe fire rescue tells me every day has been responding to building safety concerns since the beginning of march. crews are seeing some sort of roof collapse daily. while this storm is bringing mostly rain, the department cautions the weight that they could work against snow covered buildings, which will only absorb the rain. a big concern for homeowners, they might be next. >> that's why i have spent the time and the money getting my

roof cleared. it is all hands on deck, the small town that has seen hundreds of water rescues. and the best way to show you just how strong the winds were in the city today involved, a cold pint of beer. council celebrates their new city sister partnership. one problem, the city they were teaming up with doesn't exist. that one is going to require some explanation. and john mayor, tonight's guest on the

in monterey county, crews have completed the first phase of the emergency repairs needed on the levy. it breached over the weekend and it flooded the community of pajaro. a team of contractors and engineers have been working to fix it using everything they can to bring in walks. and to completely secure both ends of the levy. it could take a week before the levy is fixed entirely. just about everyone in town has been told to leave. and even without power, running water. >> it went through the basement. and that it's still here. the water was pouring in with more pump. >> the wind was so strong and
11:14 pm
even knocked over the airplanes. that's what it looked like today. and at least one fell on the fuel tank, but nobody got hurt. and another wild example of just how windy it was in the city. glass was falling from the sky. the wind blew out a window from the california building and that glass barely happened. the fire department told people rather they had to shelter in place for a few hours, but the order has since been lifted. i mean that glass barely missed somebody and it is falling very high. and i could tell you that would not have been a good situation. and i mean where would you begin? we saw everything today, so i think people are probably really ready including the people in this newscast for a break. >> it wears you down after a while and worrying about the weather as we get a break for a few days.
11:15 pm
we'll start by talking about why it was so windy. it's because the heart of the storm system was tracking over the bay area. not the atmospheric river itself. everything swirling around the cord. that storm system happened last week and did not miss us today. and we could show you a different view of that by looking at the pressure measurements at sfo through the morning into the afternoon. but the pressure measurements could take a big dip right around noon where that low pressure was tracking overhead and exactly the same time. that's been the winds gusting up to 74 miles an hour. it makes all the difference in the world with the specific storm track. that's why we saugusty winds for so much of today. but the winds, they have been diminishing, and they will continue to diminish for the rest of tonight. it will be dry tomorrow and again on thursday. temperatures will remain on the cool side maybe 3 to 5 degrees below normal. once the forecast becomes
11:16 pm
unsettled by saturday, sunday, don't be worried about it. we are talking about the low rain chances by the end of the workweek and over the weekend. not zero, but the thing to be concerned about. let's take a look at the wind forecast as we head through the rest of tonight. the wind is noticeable tonight, but it will continue to die down. that wind will not be a big factor for the morning commute or through the entire day. and the rain has come to an end. we'll see a mix of clouds and sunshine tomorrow and some passing clouds overhead through noon with plenty of sunshine. passing clouds will be possible and a little fog to start the day on thursday. we haven't seen that for a while. otherwise we're looking at calm weather conditions tomorrow and thursday and even with increasing clouds overhead on friday, this is what we mean with the slight rain chances. this version of futurecast will keep that rain down to the south with a chance that it will sneak up towards us and lower than the 50/50 rain chance. and that is where the rain chances will stay on saturday and sunday. can't rule it out, but it's not
11:17 pm
a guarantee of rain. if we get some rain, it will be light. better rain chances in the forecast by monday and tuesday and too soon to be worried about specific amounts or too soon to be worried about whether that is headed our way. we could add up the rain through the next several days using some of the forecast model data. as we go through saturday and sunday, this forecast model indicating the total for those three days will be less than a tenth of an inch across the entire bay area. basically a few sprinkles here and there. monday would bring us a better chance of rain, not a lot. but it is still a week away next tuesday into tuesday night and early wednesday. we're able to focus on that and narrow down the range of possibilities to a greater extent throughout the next several days. but we do get a break to recover and catch our breath. especially for folks without power including me, not going on over 12 hours of power at our house. still below normal for this time
11:18 pm
of the year, but again dry weather and that is nice news to be able to deliver for a couple of days. once those shower chances concern, they are going to be very low shower chances. cautiously optimistic to take the shower icons out of the forecast for one more day. better chance of rain returns for monday and tuesday of next week, but at least we get the weekend to kind of put things back together, clean up what happened over the past couple of days. >> i feel bad for you and everybody watching on your phone. >> and my wife is at home. >> i was going to ask her for leftovers too. but i guess i will skip that part. he's helping me get by this show. we are tracking conditions in the bay area, of course, and on our website all the time on kpix.com. coming up, someone on twitter says this sounded like a scene where santa rosa police and fire had a problem on their hands with this. why they had to call a hazmat team to help. it's that time of the year

11:22 pm
it's that time where everybody is tracking moves. >> let's give you the good news off the top. and they are good. they're coming back. after today, however, it's clear san francisco will have some work to do. he's joining super bowl champion, kansas city. and his deal reportedly worth two year, $16 million. he had a career high of four and a half sacks last season. other players that departed san francisco today, sampson to sign with the colts. and emanuel moseley, heading to the lions.
11:23 pm
and they are going to the titans. one player that is staying with the 49ers, it's a big return. the senator who started every game last year and agreed to a four-year deal. the top prospect with his first goal tonight against columbus, congratulations. and with the two on one break, and the shots missed. and to score that game winner, but the blue jackets win at 6-5. san jose has lost four straight. of course, now the ncaa tournament, pitt and mississippi state, yeah. hoping they would last longer than their sign. 15 seconds left, burton driving, fading. now in it. 10 seconds left. the panthers will have the lead. this is march. last chance for the bulldogs. shaquille moore with the wide open three, no good, but it's just off the mark.
11:24 pm
heading to the round of 64 for the first time since 2016 back when jamie dixon was there. pitt will play on iowa state friday. in the first game of the night, texas a&m corpus christi with bishop odell. the second half against southeast missouri. williams knocking it down, and representing the bay. islanders up six. williams had 13, and his team, corpus christi, wins their first tournament game at 75-71. the good news is they're heading to the real big dance. the bad news is they get a top overall seed alabama on thursday. but that's what they want. >> yeah, i'm cheering them on. i used to live in corpus christi and work there. i've been to that school a couple of times. all right, charlie. thank you so much. san francisco's win means san francisco beer. the best win video we found all day. >> the weather is a little windy today.

in the middle of the storm today, firefighters found something they probably did not expect to see. stuffed to the brim with 55 gallons of marijuana soaked in butane, and set on fire, right in the middle of the street. this happened on third street near the ramp this morning. the hazmat teams had to come out to deal with the butane. police had to show up and somebody was still in the van. the driver was treated for burns, taken to the local hospital. no word on whether anyone was arrested. we ask ourselves as reporters all the time. what is the best way to show how windy it is in the video form.
11:29 pm
yeah, that guy. san francisco brewing company has an inspiration for us, something our bosses will probably not approve of. >> the weather is a little windy today. it's probably leaning into that a little bit. >> yeah. >> but not too much. and it was windy and aount ther. and the storms. >> they're not even concerned about the weather aspect or how much of a beard it could get down. and this is really good marketing at the 11:00 news. we love it. it's the kind of scam that makes you think there is no way anyone would fall for this,

i'm karen. i'm living with hiv and i'm on cabenuva. for adults who are undetectable, cabenuva is the only complete, long-acting hiv treatment you can get every other month. it's two injections from a healthcare provider. i really like the flexibility. and for me, it's one less thing to think about while traveling. don't receive cabenuva if you're allergic to its ingredients or if you taking certain medicines, which may interact with cabenuva. serious side effects include allergic reactions post-injection reactions, liver problems, and depression. if you have a rash and other allergic reaction symptoms, stop cabenuva and get medical help right away. tell your doctor if you have liver problems or mental health concerns, and if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or considering pregnancy. some of the most common side effects include injection-site reactions, fever, and tiredness. if you switch to cabenuva, attend all treatment appointments.
