security precautions are being taken in new york city in case a grand jury decides to indict former president donald trump. steel barricades were delivered to a manhattan courthouse yesterday. over the weekend trump claimed he would be arrested today and encouraged his supporters to protest. the grand jury is investigating whether trump falsified business records to hide campaign finance violations. it's tied to payments made to porn star stormy daniels during the final days of the 2016 presidential campaign. jarred hill is in new york with more. jarred, good morning. >> reporter: hey, good morning, anne-marie. so far it's pretty quiet out here, but what we've seen in the past day or so, the protesters were outnumbered by the barricades. all of this is here because of the sense that donald trump could be arrested. although it's looking increasingly unlikely, authorities are ready. cbs news has learned that former president donald trump is not

expected to be indicted by a manhattan grand jury today, although, it could come by the end of the week. still calls of protests have been called to take back the nation. steel barricades brought in by nypd now surround the manhattan courthouse and district attorney's office. new fencing has also been installed around the u.s. capitol in washington amid concerns trump's potential indictment could bring a repeat of january 6th. >> i have never seen people so intent on doing so much damage like they did at the capitol. it makes this protest and this group of people a greater threat than normal. >> reporter: monday small groups rallied near trump's home in florida and in new york. >> we're here to claim our streets back. we need a da who's going to focus on doing the job and not weaponizing his office. >> reporter: intelligence sources tell cbs news they've seen a significant increase in threats and violent rhetoric

online from domestic extremists, though, they've not identified any direct or credible threats to a person or property. this comes as longtime trump ally bob costello talked about the fixer, michael cohen. cohen later pleaded guilty to felony charges related to the payout. so something else we have seen over the past few days again. since that initial statement from former president trump about his possible arrest is a flurry of fund-raising emails from his 2024 campaign as he gears up for that third bid for the white house. back to you. >> jarred hill in new york. jarred, thank you. thousands of los angeles school employees are expected to begin a three-day strike today. they'll cancel classes for more than 400,000 students. about 30,000 nonteaching support workers are planning to walk off the job over stalled contract talks. their union says many employees make little more than minimum

wage and is seeking a 30% pay raise. the teachers union has asked its 35,000 members to walk out in solidarity. and a high school student is under arrest and charged with capital murder following a shooting outside an arlington school in texas. a male student was killed and a female student was wounded. it was the first day back for students after spring break. >> we don't believe that this was anything where the student was going to try and shoot multiple people at the school. we believe it may have been targeted, but we don't have enough information right now to know whether or not that is exactly what happened. >> the school was put on lockdown after the shooting. there is no word on a motive. and a second day of talks will be held between russian president vladimir putin and chinese leader xi jinping before a state dinner. washington is denouncing xi's

the bill was adopted without a vote in the lower house yesterday after president emmanuel macron used a special constitutional power to push it through. protesters opposed to the retirement bill set trash bins on fire in paris. unions are calling for more nationwide demonstrations later on this week. an american aide worker kidnapped and held hostage by islamic extremists in western africa for more than six years is free. jeff woodke appeared at a news conference in niger yesterday along with a french journalist. he lived and worked there for three decades when he was abducted from his home. u.s. officials said no ransom was paid for his release. and coming up, on thin ice. the dire climate warning from the u.n. and what steps countries need to take to avert disaster. and -- >> while it's easier said than
