to stand in front of a judge and hear the criminal charges. they remain sealed but prominent republicans are falling in line and supporting him, and his defense team promises this will be a fight. cbs news has learned former president donald trump will travel to new york on monday to surrender himself before his court appearance the followin ts ll e granjury historic indictment will be formally unsealed and the former president will be asked to enter a plea . the case centers rent payments made to adult film actress stormy daniels before the 2016 presidential election. >> we do not know what is in the indictment as we could be looking at campaign finance charges, wire fraud, banking fraud. >> reporter: the nypd, fbi task force and u.s. secret service are among the agencies coordinating security next week. >> he is not worried. he is upset. angry . he is being

persecuted politically . that is clear to many people on the right and left. >> reporter: he will be fingerprinted and photographed for a mug shot but not placed in handcuffs . many republicans, including former vice president mike pence, are coming to his defense. >> the unprecedented indictment of a former president of the united states for campaign-finance issue is an outrage. >> reporter: supporters gather near his estate in florida. >> this will put in office right now. let them arrest him. he is going to wind. >> reporter: he is expected to return to florida after the arraignment before his private jet. of course , president trump faces other serious legal issues . investigations by the department of justice into january 6th, and his handling of classified documents on mar-a-lago and georgia authorities are looking into interference and efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. these charges in new york are a first, more charges

could be coming. >> thank you so much for your coverage. santos state lecturer says that donald trump can still legally run for president , does not matter if you have been arrested or are a felon. andrea nakano got on his take on what could come after the former president is arraigned. >> vail will be set and court dates will be set. that is when the indictment will be disclosed and the charges will be disclosed. >> reporter: he was a former federal prosecutor and lawyer with the department of justice for 20 years and in high-profile cases like this one, it is common for grand juries to seal the files. >> my sense is , because there is so much publicity , they are trying to keep a calmness in that sense because one of the issues will be , can they select a jury that can be fair to both sides? there is a lot

of pretrial publicity. >> reporter: there should be clarity on the charges on the arraignment as one big question, what elevated this case from a misdemeanor to a felony ? >> there has been a lot of discussion in terms of this relates to hush money that allegedly the former president paid stormy daniels to keep an affair quiet. so -- as i understand new york law, that may be a misdemeanor and one of the issues that i hear is that they have been trying -- how do they link that charge with another charge, for example , a campaign-finance charge , or a tax charge that may elevate the initial charge to a felony. >> we will have continued coverage of the indictment of donald trump. we will bring you the latest on air and online , and streaming on cbs news bay area. other story is, a san jose

police union executive faced a federal judge in word on charges she illegally imported fentanyl and other drugs on the job. investigators say 64-year-old joanne marian segovia used her work computer, address , and the union ups account to import the drugs from india and other countries. those drugs were reportedly shipped to locations in the united states. she is not a sworn officer or a city employee and denies the charges. if convicted, she could face 20 years behind bars. for a u.s. coast guard cutter back in the bay area after helping seize drugs in international waters off the pacific ocean . in return to alameda this morning. this video from san diego shows what they saw , two vessels with almost 900 pounds of cocaine and 9500 pounds of marijuana on board. the narcotics control landed about $166 million worth of drugs . today is cesar chavez day

, important to look back at the labor and civil rights leader's legacy, advocating for better wages and safer working conditions for farmworkers. we spoke with a civil rights activist about what she hopes people will remember. >> we think of police and firemen and healthcare workers as essential workers, when we realize , who are the most essential workers ? the people that put food on our table every day. even today, with the improvements with the farmworkers union, today , farmworkers are not paid the equivalent that policemen and firemen are paid . even though they are the most essential workers. he has a tremendous legacy that he left behind. unfortunately , the laws we have passed for farmworkers to have bathrooms in the field, cold drinking waters, rest periods, unemployment insurance, only three states in the united states that have benefits for farmworkers. california, hawaii , new york

ononday s esdaof next week. once again , a slight chance of showers . the activity we will see even when we do have rain chances in the forecast. we can handle that mpared to the 60 or 70 at this derek rivers over the last three months. sunday and monday, gusty winds across the entire bay areaeven though neither rain chances farther north and along the coast. 20 to 25 mile per hour gusts sunday afternoon and they died down a little bit after the sun goes down but a noticeable breeze through sunday night into monday and an onshore breeze which will help reinforce the cool air already in place . the winds will be strong enough for a wind advisory . rain chances for the next seven days, towards the bottom of the chart with the best chance going to be on

tuesday. like tomorrow for the north bay, only a 30% chance . nothing significant in terms of rainfall heading our way as we enjoy the dry weather. livermore and san jose at 60 degrees.in e per-50s.stly the low-40s with soms in e inland val. high temperatures on satury will be cool for the north bank with additional clouds and shower chances . near 60 around the bay with inland and east bay reaching th. we cool off sunday , monday, and tuesday, and germ temperatures by the end of next week but a slow climb. the one rain chance for everybody on tuesday north of the golden gate and along the coast with very low rain chances but not zero over the weekend and early next week. be flexible with outdoor plans but i would not cancel anything. a traffic alert, bart
