just one day after former president donald trump was indicted, another investigation is intensifying. a grand jury could soon hear from former vice president mike pence about alleged efforts by trump and his allies to overturn the 2020 election results. jarred hill is in new york with more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, wendy. this could be significant for one of the federal investigations into former president trump. his vice president, mike pence, is willing to testify within certain parameters as that grand jury looks into trump and his supporters' actions around january 6th. cbs news has learned former vice president mike pence will not fight a judge's order to testify before a federal grand jury about former president donald trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election. >> this is an earthquake and not a small earthquake. >> reporter: pence's testimony could offer investigators a firsthand account of whether he was pressured by trump and what role the former president played if any on january 6th.

>> when the mobs were attacking the capitol trying to stop the election, what did the president tell vice president pence, if anything, before, during, after. >> reporter: an appeals court ruled that a number of other trump officials will also have to testify. that includes his former chief of staff mark meadows. the development came just one day after the 45th president pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records. it's a separate case brought by manhattan da alvin bragg. >> i never thought anything like this could happen in america. our justice system has become e probes mounting, wednesday trump called on congressional republicans to defund the department of justice and the fbi. >> think it's a bad idea as frustrated as he has a right to be about some things the fbi has done. >> reporter: trump, who is

seeking the 2024 republican presidential nomination, says his campaign has raised $10 million since his indictment. his lawyers say they'll mount an aggressive effort to have charges in that hush-money probe dismissed. so we don't have an exact date for pence's testimony, but it is worth noting that just because he won't fight the subpoena does not mean that someone else won't try to block him from speaking to that grand jury. the trump team could still appeal the executive privilege ruling, kicking this can down the road just a little while longer. >> we'll see what happens next. jarred hill in new york. thanks. the son of assassinated presidential candidate robert f. kennedy is running for the white house. democrat robert f. kennedy jr. filed paperwork with the fcc yesterday. he emerged as a leading voice of anti-vaccine movement and criticized dr. anthony fauci. the 69-year-old is the second democrat to announce a run for president behind self-help author marianne williamson. at least five people are dead after a tornado slammed

into southeastern missouri. the town of glenallen about 100 miles south of st. louis took a direct hit early yesterday morning. another five people were reported injured after the ef2 tornado tore through the rural community. one couple rode out the storm in their bathroom. >> they was in the tub and i got down by them. >> i was just praying to god, please, god, don't get the house because we're in the house. please, god, don't get the house. please let us live. >> at least 11 tornadoes have been reported since tuesday across missouri, iowa, and illinois. a federal civil rights investigation is under way into the death of a 17-year-old who was shot and killed by u.s. park police in washington, d.c. it comes less than a day after body cam footage of the shooting was released. a warning, some of the video is disturbing. here's jeff pegues. >> reporter: at least four d.c. police officers approached the car early saturday morning, march 18th. a young man appeared to be sleeping inside.

police say the car was stolen, and they called for back up with two u.s. park police officers responding. >> just let him go. don't get inside that car. >> reporter: ignoring that advice, those two officers opened the rear doors, and one got in. >> police. don't move. >> reporter: the driver, 17-year-old dalaneo martin, drove off, one officer falling to the ground, the other still in the back seat. >> stop! stop, or i'll shoot! >> reporter: martin's family said he was shot in the back five times. he slumped over the wheel, the car crashing into a house. police say a gun was found in the vehicle. dalaneo martin leaves behind an infant son, his mother, terra martin, shared her grief. >> he's my child. he's my son. and until you be where i'm at today, you would never understand. >> reporter: the doj will determine if martin's civil rights were violated. a key moment in the probe will be when the officer got into the

car. keith taylor is a former nypd supervisor. >> it could be considered an officer-created jeopardy situation where the tactical decisions were not advantageous to the officer because it placed the officer in harm's way. >> reporter: within days of the shooting, the union that represents the park police released a statement saying that the officers involved acted appropriately. jeff pegues, cbs news, washington. the department of justice has reached a tentative agreement to settle a lawsuit over a deadly texas church shooting. the government has agreed to pay victims and their families more than $144 million. 26 people were killed and 22 others wounded in 2017 when a gunman opened fire during a sunday service at first baptist church in sutherland springs. a judge ruled the air force

where the gunman served was liable after it did not submit the shooter's assault conviction into the national background check system. the justice department said that would have prevented him from buying weapons from a licensed dealer. across the nation students walked out of class demanding action on gun control. [ chants ] students in nashville, tennessee, marched to the state capitol yesterday demanding stronger gun laws. the protests were organized following last week's shooting at a nashville elementary school that left six people dead. in other cities, students expressed their fears and hopes. lawmakers were listening. >> i'm constantly scared to go to school. it's always like, there's always like a chance that something bad could happen. >> i should not have to say "i love you, good-bye," to my parents before leaving for school wondering if i'll ever see them again. >> students in uvalde, texas,

where 19 students and two teachers were killed in a school shooting last may staged a sit-in. police in san francisco are investigating the stabbing death of bob lee, the man who created cash app. the 43-year-old was found stabbed early tuesday morning and died at a hospital. friends say he recently moved from san francisco to miami with his family. he was back in the bay area for a visit when he was attacked. so far no arrests have been made. a disturbing report is shedding light on decades of sexual abuse within the archdiocese of baltimore. the maryland attorney general's office released a report yesterday accusing more than 150 catholic priests and others of abusing more than 600 children over the past 80 years. the report states the archdiocese failed to report many allegations to authorities, conduct thorough investigations, and remove abusers from the ministry. coming up, raid gone wrong. how federal agents detained and interrogated the wrong man

agents entered the wrong hotel room. officials say fbi agents were assisting members of the u.s. army special operations command on tuesday when they banged on the door of the wrong room. cbs boston says a delta pilot was a guest in the room at the revere hotel. agents barged in, handcuffed, and interrogated him for more than 45 minutes before realizing the mistake and apologizing. the fbi says no one was hurt. atlanta tops the list once again for the world's busiest airport. hartsfield-jackson international airport reported the most passengers last year with more than 93 million. the rankings were released by the trade organization airports council international. atlanta's airport held the top spot for 22 years until covid hit in 2020 when it was bumped to second place by an airport in china. rounding out the top five are dallas-fort worth, denver, chicago o'hare, and dubai. the newest e-truck can take you 500 miles on a single charge, and a popular easter treat is coming under some controversy. shanelle kaul has those stories and more in today's cbs "money watch" report. >> reporter: the u.s. stock market finished mixed wednesday after investors learned private sector employers added fewer jobs than expected last month. the dow gained 80 points.
