abortion pill mifepristone. last night a federal appeals court ruled the drug can remain available in the u.s. for now, but there are new restrictions including three in-person doctor visits to access the drug. it can now only be dispensed for upup to seven weeks, not ten, a not by mail. mifepristone was scheduled to be pulled from shelves tomorrow after a federal judge in texas suspended its fda approval. severe flooding has paralyzed some areas in south florida with up to 20 inches of rain. the national weather service called it a life-threatening situation. nearly a foot of rain drenched ft. lauderdale in a matter of hours yesterday. the city's airport had to shut down, and it's not expected to reopen until at least noon today. travelers were left stranded as they tried to head to the airport. >> we're trying to get back home. they're telling us that the airport is closed, and so at this point we don't know what to do. >> this is the good newsed.

-- this is not good. this is terrible. even if i wanted to go around to griffin and come in another way it's closed. >> it's closed. >> it's closed. >> there were also tornado warnings near ft. lauderdale last night. at one point more than 22,000 customers lost power. and check out this flooding at a medical center. people walked through knee-high water as drivers slowly navigated the flooded roads. so far there have been no reports of injuries or deaths. the u.s. condemned north korea overnight for testing a long-range ballistic missile. officials in south korea said it could be a new type of missile that's harder to detect. the projectile fell in the sea east of north korea. there was an emergency evacuation warning for people on an island in northern japan, but it was later retracted after the missile posed no threat to japanese territory. police in louisville released 911 calls from the bank shooting that left five people dead. the audio reveals the fear and panic as witnesses watched the gunman open fire and employees who were hiding pleaded for help.

jarred hill is in new york with more. good morning. >> reporter: one of those 911 calls came from the shooter's mother, warning authorities she found out from his roommate that he might be headed to the bank with a gun. by the time she called the cops, though, he was already there. a heads-up, some of these calls might be tough to listen to. there were tears and prayers as louisville came together to honor the five people killed in the old national bank mass shooting on monday. >> these are irreplaceable kentuckians taken too soon. >> oh, my god -- oh, dear. >> reporter: chilling 911 calls reveal the fear and desperation from those who witnessed the horror that day. >> eight or nine people have been shot. >> uh-huh. i'm in a closet hiding. [ gunfire ] >> was that shots fired? >> yes, it is. >> reporter: two of the eight people injured are in the hospital including louisville police officer nickolas wilt one of the first to respond just

thcame wh wilt back when he was a firefighter describe him as community service oriented. >> absolutely not surprised that he wasn't among the first and he was going do whatever he could to save people. >> reporter: wilt was shot in the head by the gunman and is still in critical condition. another responding officer shot and klled a suspect shortly after wilt was injured. students at wilt's former high school got together yesterday to show their support for the officer and his family. so the shooter's family has also said that their son had some mental health challenges that were being addressed, but they were not aware that there was ever a warning sign that he was, quote, capable of this shocking act. they're working with police to understand just what happened. back to you. >> all right, jarred hill in new york. thanks. two democratic representatives are calling on california democratic senator dianne feinstein to resign. the 89-year-old has been on leave from the senate since

early last month after being hospitalized for shingles. she's been recovering at home. congressman mo khanna and dean phillips say feinstein can no longer do her job properly. they say her absence is delaying confirmation of president biden's judicial nominees. in a statement, feinstein said she intends to return as soon as her doctors say it's okay to travel. she earlier announced plans to retire at the end of next year. evacuation orders remain in place for more than 1,000 people in indiana where a toxic fire continues to burn. it started on tuesday at a former plastics recycling plant in richmond about 70 miles east of indianapolis. people living within a half mile of the fire were told to leave their homes. state and federal regulators are now monitoring the air quality. >> this is no joke. you know, chemicals like this and the burning of the plastic, and if there's any other harsh chemicals in there. >> authorities hope to put out the flames by saturday morning.

the cause of the fire is still under investigation. rmer presint donald trump is back ew depoon tod in the state d lawsuit. the new york attorney general filed a $250 million civil suit against trump, three of his children, and the trump organization. it accuses them of inflating the value of their properties to obtain loans and tax benefits. they deny any wrongdoing. back in august, trump refused to answer most questions invoking the fifth amendment more than 400 times during a deposition in the case. a lawyer for trump did not say whether his client would invoke the fifth amendment again. in tennessee, a second black democratic lawmaker has regained his seat in the state house. it comes less than a week after he was expelled by republicans for his role in a gun-control protest. mark strassmann reports. no justin -- >> no nin peace. [ cheers ] >> to never because -- >> power to the people. >> reporter: two weeks ago this disruptive gun-control protest on the house floor enraged republicans. they expelled both pearson and jones, a tactic that boomeranged. ever been on a roller coaster quite like this one? >> definitely not. nashville's metro council gave jones back his seat on monday. an hour later, he took a victory lap on the house floor.

"the new york times" says e-cigarette maker juul reached a $462 million settlement with six states and washington, d.c. it resolves lawsuits related to how the company marketed nicotine products to young people and fueled the vaping crisis. juul has now settled cases with 47 states and territories and 5,000 individuals for nearly $3 billion. >> juul's lies led to a nationwide public health crisis and put addictive products in the hands of minors who thought they were doing something harmless. >> the settlement also requires

facebook parent company meta is under pressure to remove a baby product linked to about 100 infant deaths. more than four million fisher-price rock 'n play sleepers have been recalled twice since 2019, but the consumer product safety commission says the product is still being sold secondhand including on facebook marketplace. the agency wrote a letter to meta criticizing it for not doing enough to keep it away from consumers. people are being urged to stop using the sleepers and not sell them. a prominent news organization is leaving twitter, and some major league baseball teams are pushing back last call for alcohol. shanelle kaul has those stories and more in today's cbs "money watch" report. >> reporter: all three major indices ended in the red wednesday as investors responded to march's consumer price index. the dow lost 38 points. the nasdaq was down 102, and the s&p 500 lost 16 points. npr has left twitter. the move comes after the social

media platform labeled npr's account last week as state-affiliated media and later government-funded media. the news organization says the labels are misleading and an attempt to undermine its credibility. twitter owner elon musk responded in a tweet saying defund npr. warner bros. will combine programming from hbo and discovery on max. the service will cost $16 a month and will automatically replace hbo max starting may 23rd in the u.s. the transition comes one year after that big media merger. and last call is getting extended for some baseball fans in response to the new mlb pitch clock and shorter games. four teams are extending alcohol sales through the eighth inning this season. that includes arizona, texas, minnesota, and milwaukee, miami and the new york mets are considering the change.
