odyou. i'm wendy gillette in for anne-marie green. we begin with the arrest of a u.s. service member accused of leaking classified documents about the ukraine war. 21-year-old jack teixeira will make his first court appearance today. the massachusetts air national guardsman allegedly posted highly sensitive material on a gaming website, revealing military secrets about ukraine, u.s. allies, china, and the middle east. the pentagon calls it a deliberate criminal act. jarred hill is in new york with more. good morning. >> reporter: hey, wendy. there were apparently pretty simple clues connecting jack teixeira to the leaked documents. a countertop and kitchen floor in the pictures of the documents, it seems matched pictures from inside of his home. now big question for investigators -- why? surrounded by heavily armed federal agents, massachusetts air national guardsman jack teixeira arrested outside his ho

the 21-yeaold accused of leaking hundreds of pages of secret military documents. >> the justice department arrested jack douglas teixeira in connection with an investigation into alleged unauthorized removal, retention, and transmission of classified national defense information. >> reporter: it came one week after the pentagon first discovered some of its most highly classified documents posted on social media. although the leak started last fall when it first popped up on a gaming platform called discord. a cbs news review found that some of the documents contain details about the war in ukraine and information about south korea. >> we are certainly reviewing the national security implications of the disclosure and the mitigation of the impact the release of these documents could have on the u.s. national security. >> reporter: he worked on installing fiber optic cable at a base in massachusetts, and it's believed that he may have been able to monitor the network over which the classified material flowed.

>> this was a deliberate criminal act. >> reporter: he was first identified by "the new york times." officials are trying to find how he gained access to the documents and how they were able to circulate on social media for months undetected. there were about 20 members of that chat group where the documents first showed up. law enforcement officials say they're not expecting any eminent arrests outside of teixiera. military leaders have had to reach out to allies to try to minimize fallout from secrets that were revealed about how our surveillance teams were looking at them. back to you. >> quite a case. jarred hill in new york. thanks. breaking overnight, florida governor ron desantis signed one of the toughest abortion laws in the country. the "heartbeat protection act" bans most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. on twitter he said the law expands pro-life protections and devotes resources to help young mothers and families.

the republican-led florida legislature gave final approval to the measure yesterday. there are exceptions to the new law including pregnancies caused by rape, incest, human trafficking, or if the mother's life is at risk. the man accused of killing cash app founder bob lee in san francisco will be arraigned today. police arrested 38-year-old nima momeni yesterday on a murder charge. they say the two men knew each other. jonathan vigliotti explains. >> reporter: these haunting security camera images posted by london's "daily mail" show the final moments of bob lee's life. police say that brutal stabbing was not a random attack. >> we can confirm that mr. lee and mr. momeni knew each other. >> reporter: san francisco's police chief says 38-year-old nima momeni, who owns a tech company, was arrested in the suburb of emryville and booked on one charge of murder. officers confronted him with bullhorns. law enforcement did not give

details or a motive for the killing, but sources tell the san francisco publication "mission local" that the two were driving together in a car through downtown san francisco during the early hours of april 4th when, quote, some manner of confrontation allegedly commenced. >> this is more about human nature and human behavior than it is about our city. >> reporter: lee's fatal stabbing quickly gained national attention. tech industry leaders including twitter's ceo elon musk blamed it on a violent crime wave that's taken over the city. >> reckless and irresponsible statements like those contained in mr. musk's tweet that assumed incorrect circumstances about mr. lee's death serve to mislead the world in their perceptions of san francisco. we all should and must do better. >> reporter: jonathan vigliotti, cbs news, san francisco. there are new ethics questions about supreme court justice clarence thomas. a propublica report found that thomas and his family sold three properties worth more than

$100,000 to republican mega donor harlan crow. propublica says thomas did not disclose the 2014 transaction despite a federal law requiring him to do so. last week propublica revealed thomas and his wife were gifted lavish vacations and trips paid for by crow. thomas maintained those gifts did not have to be reported. he hasn't responded yet to the latest report. this weekend marks ten years since the boston marathon bombings. the terror attack killed three and hurt hundreds of others. city officials will hold a ceremony tomorrow to honor the victims, survivors, and first responders. final preparations are under way for monday's race. workers painted both the starting line and finish line earlier this week. authorities say there are no credible threats to the event, but they are reminding everyone to remain vigilant. >> our plan involves uniformed troopers, local police officers, national guardsmen, and tactical units such as explosive and hazardous material detection

drone unitill provide over watch for the marathon route. >> organizers say this year's race will include nearly 30,000 athletes from more than 100 countries. senate minority leader mitch mcconnell plans to return to the senate on monday. the 81-year-old republican made the announcement on social media yesterday. he was hospitalized last month for a concussion and rib fracture after falling at a dinner event. democratic senator john fetterman is also expected to return on monday after being hospitalized for depression in february. the cleanup is under way in south florida after unprecedented flooding. so much rain fell it was described as a one in 1,000-year event. the national weather service said up to 25 inches of rain fell in just hours near the airport in ft. lauderdale. it's expected to reopen this morning after hundreds of flights were canceled yesterday. one man used his swamp buggy to

the court reduced the time it could be used from the first ten weeks of pregnancy to the first seven and halted mail delivery. the drug was scheduled to be pulled from shelves today after a federal judge in texas suspended its fda approval. a possible deal to buy the nfl's washington commanders, and violent protests in france ahead of an important decision about raising the retirement age. those are some of the headlines on th "morning newsstand." the "associated press" reports protests erupted in france again over president macron's controversial plan to raise the country's retirement age to 64. authorities say almost 400,000 ople demonstrated across the country yesterday. in paris there were clashes with police. dozens of injuries were reported. a french governing body is set to make a crucial decision today on whether the measure meets constitutional standards. cbs philadelphia says police are investigating the theft of at least $100,000 in dimes from a tractor-trailer.
