start with a man sharing his terrifying carjacking experience with betty yu. >> reporter: he was picking up a door sh jack in the box line in oakland just before midnight last tuesday when thieves fired into the car. >> it go here in the back. >> reporter: he said three robbers demanded his car threw his half open win deand pistol whipped him. >> hit me in my head. >> reporter: his dog bella was in the backseat during the takeover. she was injured in the leg where she previously had surgery. >> they start, like, hitting my dog. i just heard the screaming from my dog in the moment, and i tell him my dog, my dog, and

he start hitting me back in my head. i open the door and got my dog out, and they take off. a lot of people in the parking lot and drive thru. >> reporter: he's struggling from hearing loss from his head injury he fears will be permanent. his car was eventually found in undrivable condition, , and dumped. oakland police confirmed it was used in other criminal activity since it was stolen. >> it's like maybe 16, 17, 18. they're very comfortable. i was shocked. >> reporter: ahmed is now facing mounting bills in expenses, including impound lot and tow fees, and thousands of dollars in repairs and medical bills for himself and bella. >> i feel stuck. i'm very

stuck. mentally i'm not okay. >> reporter: driving for door dash was his only source of income after he lost his job as a server in 2020 when the pandemic began. he started a fundraiser to help himself get back on his feet. >> i work hard for myself and for my family, my daughter to be having good future. i would say i'm the american dream. but sometimes the system is not in my favor. a vigil monday will honor the life of a 24-year-old san francisco resident who was shot and killed by a walgreens private security guard after allegedly shoplifting. the service will start at 3:00 on monday at 825 market street. that's where the shooting happened. now, police are still investigating the incident. the security guard who killed brown has been arrested and charged

with murder. and governor newsom's plan to clean up the tenderloin by sending in the national guard is being put into play. this as fentanyl overdose deaths in the city skyrocketed in the first three months of the year. both the national guard and chp are due to arrive on monday. the plan is not to criminalize drug addicts, but to focus on drug dealers. and mayor breed says the more help the better. >> it does take a village, it does take partnership. now that partnership is expanding. expanding on a statewide level. this is something different, and i'm looking forward to a real change in our city. in other news tonight, another bank failure looms. the fdic is looking for bids on first republic bank by tomorrow. morgan chase, pnc and several others are looking to take over the struggling financial institution. they're hoping this process will be a

lot quicker than with silicon valley bank earlier this year. the bank's stock plunged yesterday, a 95% drop from earlier in the year. speaking of silicon valley bank. the feds looked around for who to blame for their collapse, and they found that they themselves were as much to blame as anybody. the report says that silicon valley bank failed because of bad management. but also because of weakened government regulations and supervision. it says the feds, the feds were just unwilling to crack down on bank manage. same story, different bank. signature bank also failed because of bad management. according to the fdic, they said that the managers didn't really understand cryptocurrency, which made up 20% of its deposits. the fdic admitted that they, the fdic itself, did not properly supervise them.

received by some. >> i think it's the perfect time to strike. unfortunately with testing, we have a lot of things going on, but we have to send a big message to the district we're not going to settle. >> reporter: the art builds have become common in oakland. they staged a city wide strike in 2019 over salary levels. there was another one-day strike last year over the issue of school closures. >> they've happened a couple of times in the last couple of years because teachers are fed up. for years we've had budgets slashed, our wages are not increasing with the cost of living. >> reporter: and in oakland, the tradition is to hand s.it's a subtle message to both the district and community about the commitment of the people making them. >> they see the effort we put into it, not only for this, butw so, know, use when we're

in the classroom with our kids. >> reporter: nine-year-old isadora got pretty handy with a power tool as she assembled signs. she said she was doing it for the fun and to support the teachers, but there may have been an ulterior motive. >> for me, school is sometimes boring. emphasis on sometimes. but i won't be like in tears if school is canceled. >> reporter: the kids may be okay with it, but the adults here say they'd like to avoid a strike if possible, but all signs point to it being a real possibility. >> oakland unified has been under state receivership since falling into insolvency in 2002p. and there's an effort at the state capital to make teacher salaries more in line with the car length cal cost of living. there's a bill to 30.

of the sales force tower today. watching what's been playing out the last couple of days, we're back into that season. tomorrow, thgh, ngeethe's rain still looking at clear skies. it's 55 degrees in san jose right now. if we jump to the daytime highs. this is today. i just wanted you to see today, to get perspective on the comparison with tomorrow. we switch the numbers to sunday, and watch the numbers come down. a lot of green, and the mid 60s for most of us. a dramatic change. we spent thursday and friday around 90 for most of these places. not only is tomorrow the day we go to the 60s, we're not really coming back out of them for the

next seven days. in addition to being much cooler on the thermometer tomorrow, it's going to be breezy. watch the screen light up as the winds rush in. those are 25 miles per hour winds as we get into tomorrow afternoon. strong on shore flow in advance of that. that will try and bring us some rain. let's take a look at that one. it kind of falls apart sunday, but it redevelops and perfect aim to is it right off our coast tuesday, wednesday, thursday can be friday. it's a weird cut off low. as we saw it play through, and you have an area of low pressure along the coast, it just sits there. and if you take from tuesday through friday, that's about 0.4 inches of rain a day. less than a tenth of an inch a day. so it's not a significant rain maker for us. but the challenge is it could have isolated thunderstorms in it. one other

thing that's already interesting, it's going to drop snow in the sierra, and it will drop enough snow to mess with the drive. if anyone is headed over donner pass, they'll have five to six inches of snow there. you might need chains for a time . and the snow level gets down to 5,000 feet. it will catch a lot of people off guard. it's not unheard of, but we just came from 90 degrees a few days ago. here's why there's a possibility for thunderstorms. the circulation will be sitting right off the coast, ther a blsyey.
