ponzi scheme. a man stole $39 million promising luxury ticket and suites. the suspect knew their family for 30 years. >> reporter: more than 100 victims are tied up in this $39 million scheme. according to federal prosecutors, many of them are from san francisco's chinatown. many cases they are seniors who do not speak english. >> reporter: this is the plan federal prosecutors say ran a $39 million ponzi scheme and spent at least $7 million of it to fund his own lavish lifestyle. the 41-year-old is accused of connie victims to invest in a fake scheme, buying and reselling tickets and luxur suites at staple center and chase center. kingsley spoke t me on behalf of his mom, a resident who is out $3.5 million. >> my mom had to go through all of that. she did not speak english. going through all of

that, living in shame, being embarrassed. but today, with everything that has transpired she has really realized that it was not about the money any more, right? it is about gettin these guys here. it is really not time to be scared they should be scared now. >> reporter: the family's attorney filed lawsuits against derek and his father felix. a long time family friend and well-known life insurance agent who since retired. >> started off as hey, maybe yo can give me money i can give yo some interest, right? 11%, 18%, sounds really good. so, in the beginning it started, the amounts were like in the thousands. it was all right. and, a felix would pay it consistent. and building his credit. and then after that, i started to climbing up to tens of thousands. but then the interest payments were slow and then stopped coming and it was

diverted. >> a significant amount of the funds went towards paying n al luxury cars such as porsche and jewelry, designer sneakers and handbags. these victims gave them their entire retirement funds. >> reporter: she represents a dozen victims and filed an initial police report in 2019. sfpd began investigating. >> these are mom and pops, you know, the former victim, his mo was a garmet worker. the other victims they, they are restaurant workers. we had victims that were extremely suicidal. we have been able to work through. we had another victim who had a heart attack and subsequently passed, we believe is related to this. . >> reporter: she signed notes that was signed by him. >> built on trusts, relationships of 30 years, people they considered like uncles or second fathers. the

temperatures in the middle 60s. sunday, the clouds tick up again for the system with a chance of rain for monday morning. but, that one is really going to be unimpressive mainly the north bay getting a few showers on monday morning that is what it looks like for now through tomorrow. a quarte of an inch can fall, 0.10. and that snow it is not unheard of. you can get snow like this in may. getting late in the year for this to still be happening. that is another six inches of snow on the passes. a winter weather advisory here. on the weekend. it is going to impact travel. be advised and let anyone you know, highway 50, it will be slow, you probably at times will need chains going into early may. in terms of th temperatures for the weekend. here is saturday. i want to do the comparison with monday. if you pick out your part, lower 60s, going to move saturday out
