>> we arcautusly optimistic about negotiations right now. but until, you know, negotiations are completely over, and until, you know, we have actually signed an agreement the fight continues at this moment. >> no answer on when or if the school will be over before the school year ends. there's just nine days left in the year, but the bargaining team says they have come too far to back down now. >> there were some agreements that were made through the collective bargaining agreement and some that were made through a separate agreement. >> we reached out to the ousd school district. but they did not respond to our request for comment.>>w toe soutbay where homeless advocates are pushing back against san jose's latest attempts to get homeless off

the streets. the mayor wants more money for emergency shelters and treatments and more money for those means less for permanent housing. he wants resulting to move a little more quickly. >> we have 5,000 people living outside right now. the answer to homelessness is to build shelter and treatment centers and affordable housing and get people indoors. i'm focused on building basic dignified individual housing units and in-patient treatment for every person who needs it. and then, expecting indument maltly requiring that people come indoors when the spaces are available. >> advocates worry the plan might trample on the rights of the homeless in the name of treatment. >> every time you sweep, you send a message to the unhoused that we don't want you here. it's like sweeping out trash. we don't, we will move you. the issue is where do they go? >> it seems like such an

inhumane thing to do to someone who has nearly nothing. >> the stats are not in this year yet for stow, but between 2019 and 2022, chronic homelessness went down. homeless people with children dropped 15%. and that corresponded with an 18% increase in the number of people staying at the city's homeless shelters. the city was supposed to count again this year, but skipped it. and officials haven't said why. governor newsom wants to dedicate more than $15 billion to fight homelessness across the state. that includes money for cleaning up encampments. funding for the state's home keep program, behavioral health treatment and the care program. >> property crime a big issue facing san francisco. that's why a bike shop in hayes valley will close up shop for good. here is betty yu. >> reporter: over about two years burglars have repeatedly

hit high road bike co. a thief managed to steal a $5,000 e bike chained to this display. this side door was broken in half so many times, owner chris calloway eventually sealed it off completely. he said the last straw came recently when a man just rode off with the bike during business hours. he plans to close for good at the end of may. >> a little bittersweet. part of me is just happy to be able to go home and hopefully get a little bit more rest versus getting calls from alarm company. and, that was pretty stressful. this is over two years okay? but it's a lot. >> reporter: he shared various police reports he collected after each break-in. crime is only a contributing factor to his decision to close. this year's monster storms and the overall economic downturn in the city made it tough to get customers through the doors. and fewer commuters in san francisco didn't help. chris has lived in the city for 25

years. and owns multiple small businesses including what began as a bike shop in jackson square. >> we had a break-in attempt there. pretty much the first day that we were at the shop. luckily, i was there when someone tried to break in. and, i was able to scare them off. >> reporter: the crime isn't scaring off chris. and he isn't giving up on san francisco. in fact, he plans to open a new cannabis dispensary called outer hayes on van ness in about two weeks. >> our city is definitely in an inflection point. and we have an opportunity to grow from this moment. >> reporter: high road bike co is not the only store front targeted. consumer electronics store beta eventually closed after multiple break-ins and an armed robbery in 2021. last september, someone smashed the windows at betting store brooklyn on hayes street. still chris considers the strong association in hayes valley.

the addition of ambassadors and the presence of beat cops, bright spots in the neighborhood. >> and i do know that these are issues that you will find in other cities as well. i think it is just the support of the community in the people here that i just love so much. >> reporter: union square is seeing major retailers close up shop with luxury furniture cocoa republic being the latest to announce they are closing. they are just the latest san francisco company citing crime as a reason for closing up shop. we took a look at recent crime stats for the central district. which includes union square. burglaries were up 8% compared to last year, larceny theft was up 11% but most violent crimes have been steady in recent years. the big demand for flowers this mother's day weekend is helping one union square business thrive despite everything. the owner of union square flowers says the special celebration means big business, but patricia lee says with large retailers leaving town

due to crime, she is worried she will see fewer customers. >> you want to see more people coming back. not less people coming back. it looks a little better. but every time we are here, nordstrom is leaving. sonoma william is leaving. >> lee is optimistic things will get better and appreciates the community support. like hers. and speaking of mother's day, let's hope tomorrow's weather will be as nice as today's. for that, we turn to brian hackney. >> that is pretty. the temperatures went up today. to 91 in concord. san jose, 87. 92 at livermore. temperatures will be cooler tomorrow. warmest spots in the mid 80s . it will cool off by the

shoreline. because we have thicker fog and low clouds coming in. it's happening tonight. and that will serve to make temperatures not quite as warm tomorrow. then they will bounce back. yes, it's all up and down on the weather department. we'll have the details when we cover the forecast in a few minutes. first, here is andrea. >> what better way to spend a warm day than at a graduation? there could be a few other ways but friends and family members sat in the heat for bay area college graduations today. berkeley and cal state eastbay grads are on their way to the next chapter of their lives. thousands of grads are excited to enter the so-called real world. but lots of them expected concerns about the uncertainty of the world in these immediate times. tech students express fear about the continued rise of artificial intelligence, economics majors

cited the recent bank failures in the bay area. but they are all coming out with a special education and many showed more than just a youthful optimism. >> i've grown up in america where there is always that level of uncertainty and anxiety. it's a quickly changing world that we are being thrust into. one i feel we can take by the scruff of the neck a little bit. i don't know. >> steve wozniak delivered the commencement address. the cocreator of the apple computer. two dozen students of color graduated from oakland. the financial education program. the students took eight months of personal finance literacy classes through the school of business. they will all get $8,000 for college from pg&e. >> a challenge is always good for me in a way. i overcome my challenges. so yeah. it's going to be hard. and there will be times when i know i will

struggle in life. like going through college and stuff. but i believe i can do it. >> pg&e says that it created the program as a racial justice initiative after the murder of george floyd. thousands of vietnamese catholics in san jose have gotten a place to worship again more than a decade after their church went up in flames. now known as our lady of lavang church. the new church had plenty of parishioners today in a weekend of inaugural festivities. church goers said the opening means a lot to them. >> i became a holy catholic child of god. and mama mary here. so this is a beautiful celebration. bringing life to this area again. >> the church expects thousands of guests from around the world to attend this weekend.

hey, now sights and sounds from a live auction at the annual hanna gala. celebrating the korean community foundation of san francisco. tonight's event honors community leaders, financial donors, sponsors and volunteers. the event also raises money to support critical needs of koreans including mental health, senior care, and services addressing domestic violence and hate crimes. korean american actor daniel day kim was honored at the event. >> what matters more than the color of your skin is what you believe. and whether you believe we can all live together as one society. and raise each other up. as opposed to look at the divisions as reasons to alienate one another. >> the gala is the largest event of its kind on the west

well the big snow packs are melting now. california's rivers are raging. the american river has five times the runoff it had last year. with the warm weather this weekend, they are stacking up oars, taking people out to run the rivers. looks like fun. but they are running really high and really wild. some sheriff's officers have closed sections of the river just to be safe. >> back here in the bay, the only assignment today for bay area locals, getting outside. the first warm day of the year did not disappoint for many. sunshine was on full display. in areas like heather farm park. people walked. hiked. just came out to people watch. we spoke to some of them who said it has been a long time coming. >> i am looking forward to it. it's been a cold winter and we could all get out and get some sunshine for sure. >> good people, good weather. such a nice day to be out and

as warm inland because of clouds offshore. warmer spots in the mid 80s tomorrow and it will cool off near the shoreline. already. the fog on the low clouds are making visibility very low. crossing the golden gate bridge. fog will be around through mid-morning tomorrow. then by later in the week, high pressure begins to reassert itself. high pressure builds midweek. temperatures climb to near 90 degrees inland. so it cools a bit tomorrow. tuesday. low clouds blossoming offshore. ignore all the stuff in green. the futurecast radar is just amped up a little bit. it will not be anything in the way of light rain. could be a little drizzle along the coast. wouldn't be much. futurecast wind gusts show us tomorrow we are five to 15 to 25 miles an hour inland. a little breezy sunday afternoon. with the low clouds along the shoreline. but the winds ease up by the time

we get to 8:00 on sunday. let's sum it up. low clouds and fog at the coastline. sunshine increases by the afternoon. temperatures cool down tomorrow. except well inland. by the way, well inland, you'll have sunshine all day tomorrow. there won't be any fog. it will warm up a again to near 90 degrees. tuesday, around livermore, the trivalley area. out through up in the wine country. and then, it will stay dry through the weekend. forecast highs through sunday, 76 hayward. 81 in union city. 77 at palo alto. 79 in morgan hill. over in the east bay tomorrow. it's nice. 83 for antioch. not as warm in danville. just 78 degrees. walnut creek at 79. plenty of sunshine after the low clouds. but you'll notice a lot of marin county is painted in green because the numbers will not be as warm, not nearly as warm tomorrow as they were today. what with the increase in the low cloud cover. it will be warm if you go far enough north like to ukiah. 88

all right, the warriors' loss has started to sink in a bit. but for many in dub nation, it is still hard to process how flat the warriors looked in an elimination game. in a do or die game six. the warriors didn't play like the team with four rings in the past eight seasons. golden state was ice cold from the field shooting just 27% from beyond the arc. and combine that with a near triple double from lebron james. he finished with 30 points. nine boards, and nine assists. that was enough to end the warriors season. golden state found some rhythm late in the year. but after the game, the team admits, it wasn't playing at a championship caliber level. >> it felt like all season, we were desperately trying to recapture what we have last year to come back from 2-0 against a hell of a sacramento

team to give this laker team the fight we did in this competition. we came close to recapturing what we had. but we didn't quite get there. so, in my mind, we didn't feel like a championship team all year. but we had the guts and the fortitude to still believe. and we made a pretty good push. we just couldn't get there. >> this group definitely maxed out what we could do. it wasn't a championship team. we didn't win it. so it sucks but that's our reality. worst season as a whole since 2014. and yet, you know, we had a chance to make another run. so we'll figure it out. this group was maxed. we got what we could get out of it. but this thing isn't maxed. so we'll get more out of that. >> the warriors have several questions to address over the summer. will they keep or trade away some of the younger ayers
