from cbs news bay area, this is the evening edition. now at 11:00 after getting the foot from the dodgers, the sisters of perpetual indulgence are using the opportunity to promote their charitable charges. >> we do the work of nuns. we feed the hungry. we minister to the sick. we support queer and trans youth. the community of half-moon bay came together. and if you don't have a reason to come to downtown san francisco, you can park for free because the city will start charging you for it. i'm brian hackney. >> i'm andrea nakano. the fallout continues for a rescinded invitation for a drag group to be honored at a

dodgers game. they were founded more than four decades ago and this week, the los angeles chapter was invited then told not to attend the pride event on june 16th. >> now more groups are pulling out in solidarity. anne makovec says they are calling it a blessing. >> reporter: they saany publicity is good publicity. >> anybody who thought who we are and misunderstood us now understand us better. >> reporter: she has been a member of the sisters of perpetual indulgence for 35 years and she has heard the criticism. >> a group that mocks catholic is not a message of inclusivity. >> reporter: senator marco rubio was among the calls to pull them from pride night.

>> do you see how they could take offense? >> i understand the knee jerk reactions. we actually do the work of nuns. we feed the hungry. we minister to the sick. we support queer and trans youth. >> reporter: other groups are ditching the dodgers event in support of the sisters like out loud sports. a queer athletic league. >> they have to be mindful that our community stands togeeru do performative. >> reporter: the aclu says they will not participate saying the dodgers which broke the color line in 1947 with jackie robinson were beacons of inclusion. now they are taking a step back. the battle lines are drawn at a time when anti-trans legislation is passing across the nation. sister roma tries to understand the dodger's position. >> they got the blowback and

they were not ready for it and didn't know how to react. >> it sounds like you are sympathizing with them a little bit. >> you know, i am actually sympathizing with them. i'll probably be canceled by this. you want us to be canceled together? >> reporter: at that moment, a man crashes our interview to tell sister roma how much she anthe q us. n yodo that? >> you are not going to cry. >> i am. >> reporter: these are the moments that sister roma says she knows she is doing the right thing. >> because you are part of what makes this city the greatest city in the world. >> oh my goodness. thank you. >> we rely on you. >> reporter: outside of the san francisco bubble, there have been rumors that the dodgers might change their minds. >> i hope that it works out and everybody can come to an understanding. >> reporter: in the meantime, sister roma is choosing to see

the bright, even glittering side of the situation. >> by the way, the pride night, june 16th in la, the dodgers will be taking on the san francisco giants. >> and the dodgers cross town rivals are getting involved as well as they pulled the invite to the sisters t mayor of anaheim invited them to angels pride night on june 7. the wife of the sonoma county sheriff is accused of driving under the influence and crashing her tesla into a home. according to police, 47-year-old natasha whitinghill hit a fence and a tree and plowed into this home near calistoga road . sheriff eddy ingram said as a husband, i'm concern about my wife's well being. as a citizen and sheriff, i am concerned about the person in the home who

suffered injuries. santa rosa police are investigating to avoid a conflict of interest. the tragedy at half-moon bay shed light on the conditions of a lot of farm workers. >> a summit highlighted the problems like housing and clean water and health care. and jose martinez has the story. >> reporter: a farm worker living in half-moon bay left their home in mexico in search of a better life 22 years ago. but she says it hasn't been easy. she tells me we have never had a good living situation since we got here motivated by their challenges she decided to attend a public summit that shed light on the daily critical issues that they encounter. she tells me our biggest problem is housing. we can't rent an expensive place to live because we can't afford it based on our income. it is barely the minimum wage. in addition to affordable

housing, the summit discussed other vital topics. livia gonzalez, another farm worker shared similar concerns. she says many farm workers don't go to the doctor because they don't have health insurance. the high cost doesn't allow them to do so. everything is expensive. victoria sanchez dialva, one of the summit's organizers stressed the importance of having elected officials present to raise awareness about the issues. >> it is important to know how to help. pass legislation. secure funding. improve services. and get the projects that improve the lives of farmworkers. it will make it easier for farm workers to in union elections. >> it allows farm workers to unionize without having to vote

in person. the follow-up bill removes the option to. a new policy passed by the region. students had urged the university to change its policy. a group study will come up with a plan by the end of november. now, in the south bay, people flock to the san jose convention center today to take advantage of a free dental care services. our offers ranged from simple cleanings to surgery. the county's dental foundation put this on with the help of about a thousand volunteers. and if you didn't get a chance to go today, the event continues tomorrow. >> implants are so expensive and when you become a senior, what it is when you are working. you are talking care of yourself. >> the cdc estimates almost a third of americans do not have dental insurance. the dental foundation wants to continue to support equity by making this a

yearly tradition. well, san francisco's figured out another way to get more money out of people. by charging for parking on sundays. it will start this summer and devin fehely has the story. >> reporter: it is often said that there are no free rides in life. and soon it will be equally true that there is no free parking in san francisco on sundays anymore. >> i don't think you should pay on sundays. i wish it was cheaper. >> reporter: phillip paige drove in from sacramento to visit fisherman's wharf. he says the change in the parking policy might be enough to put the brakes on future trips. >> it costs a lot more. everything is going up. gas and everything. it is just not fair. >> reporter: faced with a projected 130 million-dollar budget shortfall in 2025, the city announced it was extending paid parking hours until 10:00 p.m. monday through saturday. and adding them during the day

on sunday. >> i think it's fine. we need to generate all the revenue we need to generate and the city is a little under budget right now so i think that is a great way to increase revenues. >> reporter: robbie says he is not thrilled to pay more. but he says he understands the cash strapped city has to find a way to make more money and hopes it gets spent on budget priorities like public safety. >> we would love to reduce crime in general around property crime or auto theft crime. any one of those. >> reporter: it is not entirely clear how much extra revenue the parking hours will generate. plus, they are being phased in to popular tourist spots and gradually expanding to the rest of the city by the end of next year. according cie sunday parking since 1947. call good old days. >> kind of sucks. i liked it back in the old days where it was cheaper and you didn't have to pay a whole lot. >> those days are gone. the plan will be phased in the next

18 months. it will begin this july with fisherman's wharf and the dog patch and we have a full breakdown of the plan on kpix.com. the original pair of blue jeans is celebrating its 150th anniversary today. and san francisco based levi strauss and company opened a popup shop in the city to celebrate their 501 denim. it will stay open through may 27th. we are still waiting to find out if levi stadium will indeed be the host of super bowl 60 in 2026. all the reports say it is all but a done deal. the nfl owners just have to vote on it early next week. and the entire bay area is hoping that announcement comes soon because the last time this area hosted a big game in 2016, it had a net positive economic impact of at least $240 million. san jose mayor matt mahan said he sent a letter to the nfl pitching the

city as the ideal location to host some of the super bowl activities the week of the game. his main argument is that san jose is closer to levi's. but san francisco is expected to get the bulk of the events just like it did in 2016 when the super bowl city opened along the embarcadero. with memorial day weekend fast approaching, travelers are bracing themselves for high travel prices and delays. and we are getting you ready for the bay to breakers tomorrow. if you want to take part or avoid it altogether. we have you covered. we are looking at the forecast for that. plus, this is the time of night where we typically pull the wet gray blanket overhead. time to settle in with that. it is already over san jose. i'll show you how this impacts sunday. we will talk about bay to breakers but also your part of the bay as welcoming up.

point. so, here's the thing about that. it happens in late may. it is part of bay to breakers. you just go and enjoy your day. and it will be gray. it will be gray all day in the city and it will be a bit misty even in the early morning hours. so if you will be out and about early, you might get a little mist out of this. here's what it looks like from the top of the mark hopkins hotel. we are taking a look out over downtown san francisco. and, you know, you can see it is gray here. it is already misting in fact over ci san jose, cloudy. but the clouds got a higher base to it. and it is not like you are sitting in the misty fog here. but the temperatures are pretty close. 57-degree ins san jose right now. here is what it look like now. it just kind of grows and extended in the overnight hours. i will stop it here at 3:00 a.m. because this is when we get the best view. everyone will have it. high clouds will show up on top of that. so we will miss the view. so i'll tell you. this will all melt back. this is the lower marine layer stuff. those are high

clouds coming in from the northwest. they obscure the story there. high clouds. the stuff you don't notice that much. the marine layer will melt back by 11:00 noon. to pretty much just the city and the immediate golden gate. just like it did today. so yeah. that means for the bay to breakers forecast, you will start out in the mid 50s . 60. plan on a little bit of light mist and comfortable temperatures for a run. as far as daytime highs go. low to mid 80s for warmer inland east bay communities. temperatures in the mid 60s in city. d e we will see rm numbers and t detai country. calistoga, clear lake. 86. guerneville, 81. you can see the warmer inland valleys in the low to mid 830s . and it will be the same story for the warmer east bay valleys. there is not really anything to see here cture. butthere is a pattern change coming. it

doesn't show up in satellite here. so i will go into the seven day forecast and we will spotlight the two stories that stand out. the first one is subtle warmup. from now through monday. and monday will be the warmest day. for oakland, 72. san francisco, it means you get to 68. you will not notice a lot of difference in the city at all. you might get more sun though. by the time we get to tuesday and monday. monday and tuesday, a little less of the marine layer. then we look at the micro climates. not only is it a monday warmup, but it's a late week cooldown. and that is starting to become more interesting. daytime highs we were looking at, 66 by friday. and when we look at the inland east bay valleys, you'll go down to the upper 60s . that story, part of a cutoff low. very difficult to forecast this far out. but it does look like wewill get a cola mo at as gec good ufit. next in sports, stanford
