news with sara donchey on cbs news bay area . >> hello, i am sara donchey. imagine living in a neighborhoo that looks like this, filled with burned-out and abandoned cars, many of them stolen. that is what is happening in parts o oakland and a lot of people wan to do something about it. some are afraid of retaliation just for trying to clean up their neighborhoods. juliette goodric is here with us tonight. she talked with a man who is so upset that he said he is going to fix this himself. >> we did visit parts of oaklan that looked like a literal junkyard when you walked up and down. this was along the railroad. they tell me they jus started a new program to clean up the mess, but this is going to take some time. >> it is getting worse by the day. you can talk to some of th neighbors. this is just one section. look at this!

mistake. >> this firestorm came right after the museum had announced they would build a new facility and headquarters for black baseball and social history. he said hopefully we can all take away or learn something from this unfortunate incident. sarah? >> there has been a lot of reaction to this, what was said and some of it happening online athletic rants wrote on twitter it is possible to be disappointed while not condoning racial slurs. both ca be true. the longtime sports journalist wrote, nobody did this to glen kuiper. if you cannot avoid saying racial slur when you are on tv than you probably will not be on tv for long. obviously a lot of opinions on this from fans but for people who knew kuyper, thi is a small market. the media landscape is not a big one in the bay area. i know that you

joined us more than once! wilson walker has been out there, and with all this snow melting it is already starting to flood in parts of yosemite and some of those campgrounds might be close through tomorrow night. this is why! >> yeah, it could be a lot wors because the river did not quite rise up to the level where they had to close off the valley to visitors, but it is obviously still inconvenient for everybod who was hoping to camp in the valley and take advantage of al the wonders of yosemite. >> but then you see beautiful shots like this. >> you do and there is still plenty of water up there, so we have to continue to monitor this. i want to look at how muc snow is still up there in the sierra. we can track that and where we are in the winter of 2022 -23 for the state as a whole. for the state as a whole we are still at 36% in terms of water content of the snowpack of what is normal for april 1st

june 1st is next week. if you compare it to where we are supposed to be on may 22nd, we are at 326% of normal, more tha three times what is normally contained in terms of water in the snowpack. that is a lot of snow that is still up there, an of course whenever the temperatures warm up we will se the melting occur and causing more potential downslope flooding concerns. this is the flood forecast for the merced river. this is the entrance to yosemite valley, and this is ho close it was to closing. it crested at 12.1 feet which is just below the level at which they do have to close off yosemite valley. it will gradually go down because the temperatures are going to cool off, which means there will not be as much melting happening as quickly. the cooling trend is going to impact us here in the bay area as well. much cooler for inland parts of the bay are as well, including 12 degrees below the toasty temperatures inland today. high temperatures will remain below average. a high-level storm system will settle mewillsee ol tempures a

being able to push a little bit further inland. right now we do have some of that fog forming. temperatures have dropped down into the mid-to-upper 50s to around 60 degrees . the cool ai is going to move in tomorrow along a cold front that is goin to shift our winds a little bit and help to disrupt the marine layer a little bit. there will be some fog out there early tomorrow morning but will not last long. even along the coast we should be seeing pretty much on obstructive visibility already by mid to late morning so the fog will not be as stubborn tomorrow but will make up for it later in the week. temperatures tonight dropping down into the mid to low 50s. valley's dropping down into the upper 40s. high temperatures tomorrow are going to be near average, around the bay. mid-60 and san francisco, upper 60s fo oakland, only upper 50s right along the coast, but that is also normal for may, but a few

degrees above average further inland. mostly low to mid 70s i the santa clara valley and low to mid 70s and lived in the eas bay. those numbers will actuall go down a little bit more as we head to the rest of the week. i is not a full-fledged cold snap but it will be just on the cool side as we head into memorial day weekend. the official beginning of summer is still going to feel like early spring if you are headed out to the grant parade on sunday in san francisco i would plan on layering up a little bit. temperatures will be in the 50s throughout the parade for carnaval, with temperatures being affected by the lack of sunshine we will see for the first part of the day, but we will see a peak of that coming through as we head towards late morning and early afternoon. th overall trend is for the below average temperature pattern to stick around all the way throug memorial day weekend. that doesn't necessarily mean it wil be cold outside. temperatures inland will reach into the low to mid 70s as we head through the holiday weekend. the cooles day on thursday will bring a chance for upper 60s. if you want real consistency, the coastal forecast each and every day for the next seven days, th high temperature will be 57 or 58 degrees, just not wiggling around much at all. vern? straight ahead, how did the

the late san francisco supervisor and lgbtq activist was born on this day in 1930. he was elected to the board of supervisors in 1977. milk was the first openly-lgbt elected official in california and one of the first in the country. workers at a san jose starbucks have voted to unionize. the business journal says they would be among the first to do that. workers at th alameda and west julian locatio voted to unionize. this comes after an unhoused man allegedly attacked an employee at that location. three workers involve in the incident were fired. where can you find construction workers, dinosaurs and half-naked chefs in the
