rental listing, betty yu is her tonight with the rental scam that is swindling people out of thousands of dollars. >> reporter: the homeowner of this hayward hills house put up a fraud alert sign after potential renters showed up expecting a tour. >> reporter: this was the renta ad that appeared on zillo. 33 bed, three babble 2100-square-foot home for 4,400 >> i had someone show up at my door and ask me about my house. i was like my house is not for rent. she showed me a listing o her phone. i saw the pictures. did not pay attention to the address and the pictures were from the neighbor's house that had just recently sold. >> reporter: the homeowner said 10 minutes later, another perso showed up asking to check out the home. a day later, the site stated there were 15 applications in. the deposit wa $4,800. she said someone had claimed her property and the contact number went to a google

voice line. >> my concern is, is someone going to show up to my door and i have a rental agreement and i paid a deposit, i want in? it was disconcerning for me about our safety. >> reporter: zill o o confirmed it was removed. we go to length for inappropriate listings bein posted and how to protect yourself. our team's monitor activity in several different ways, actively screening for suspicious content and if a listing is found to be fraudulent it is removed from our site as quickly as possible how to recognize scams, red flags include requests for cash payments or wire transfers. or, long distance landlords. >> zillow is w is opening it up
