now 11:00, she was days int a new job when she was stabbed in the back by a stranger. >> from the beginning until the end she never said a word. >> the unexplained attack and the bay area bakery, next. >> from kpix, this is the lates with sara donchey on cbs news bay area. >> good evening, i am juliette goodrich in for sarah tonight. it is known for its egg custard tarts, moon cakes and comfort food, but it turned to chaos at a popular san francisco chinatown bakery when a man walked in and began stabbing an employee in the back over and over again. betty yu spoke wit a customer who was pouring himself coffee when he found himself in the middle of this crime scene. >> reporter: i spoke with the owner of aa bakery and cafe, an he said that in all his years o

running this place, nothing lik this has ever happened. the victim was rushed to zuckerberg sf nerawith -threateningjuri. m stabbed the bakery worker multiple times, longtime customer lee was about to prepare his own cup of coffee when he heard screaming. >> the lady was screaming behin the counter. the guy used a knife and stabbed the lady , just like pounding something on her shoulder or chest. >> reporter: the owner who was upstairs at the time told me th woman had just started the job few days ago. >> i told my friends, get out o here. this guy is trying to kil

somebody. immediately the lady stepped back and she just laid down in front of me and faced the ceiling. >> reporter: ding called 911. h said the suspect was in no rush to flee the scene. >> he must have mental problem. from the very beginning until the end, until he dropped the knife and the police officer caught him, he never said a word. >> reporter: ding and the owne kept their eye on the suspect a he made his way outside until the police arrived. he said the suspect held onto the weapon an a knife could later be seen on the sidewalk near the bakery. >> he was just so quiet. his actions were so, you know, he i not a normal person. >> reporter: the owner told me he has never seen the suspect i and around aa bakery. >> the bakery owner tells us he does have surveillance footage of the attack, which he has

turned over to investigators. tonight, san jose police want you to take a good look at surveillance video that is righ there. keep an eye on the top right. they say the driver of this black vehicle hit a woman on a bike and dragged her 400 feet down park avenue and then kept right on going. happened back on march 18th. the woman suffered major injuries but survived. police said the vehicle appears to be a small suv or crossover. the driver is still on the run tonight. police in berkeley say a group of thieves who ransacked the apple store took the time t taunt the store security guard before they took off. police sa that the group of four strolled into the store in the middle of the afternoon and told the guard, quote, you can't stop us then they proceeded to swipe 49 devices worth more than $50,000 they took off in a minivan that had been carjacked in oakland the day before. police later found it abandoned and the suspects are still on the run tonight.

check this out. new video tonight of a very curious coyot trying his hand at golf, or rather messing up one guy 's golf game. the golfer took the video at the presidio in san francisco when a coyote stole his golf ball, played with it, then ran off. hopefully the gu had extra golf balls. right now, dogs are banned from certain presidio hiking trails because it is coyote pumping season and the animals are dimming around the city. th city wants people to be on aler and keep their distance, but as shawn chitnis reports, there is a growing push to change the wa we think about coyotes and coexist. >> down here potentially, yes. then behind you. >> reporter: christopher campbell is showing us where we might see coyotes in golden gat park. he loves any chance he gets to go around san francisco's many parks. >> this being open they would not necessarily den here. they would find a location where

well aware that coyotes come to their favorite spots. >> we are walking towards lafayette park, and at the top we saw the coyote. no big deal. we just turned around and went back home. >> reporter: erica figaro of remembers seeing a coyote with her dog at their go to spot in san francisco a while back. as another coyote season begins, she knows to be careful. >> i would say i am more hyperaware of what i am seeing, especially when it is dark. >> reporter: in some cases ther are park closures because of an active coyote den, but for the most part christopher believes they can coexist with humans in the same city. >> it is wonderful that we have wildlife in this city. coyotes are amazingly beautiful animals and we have them here in our urban environment. >> reporter: hoping for another season where humans, dogs and coyotes can enjoy the park. >> dusk and dawn are most likel when coyotes are on the move. i you cross paths with one, keep

through the waterways, and of course there is still plenty of snow to melt. the good news wit our weekend is that it may not be pleasant but at least it slowed down the rate at which the snow is melting. we are seeing pop-up showers and thunderstorms over the high sierra and northern california. this activity will avoid the ba area. in san jose the temperature is still clinging t 60 but everybody else is in mid-to-upper 50s. we will drop down as the fog continues to spread. clear skies for the moment but the file will push into the inland valley's to begin the day on tuesday. it backs up towards the coast like it did today, then i think you will see a period of time befor the sun peaks through. you wil have a better chance, especiall in the afternoon, of seeing sunshine coming through the clouds for the north bay. temperatures tonight driving mainly into the low to mid 50s by early tomorrow morning. high temperatures will be below

average. it is a cooler than average weather pattern to begi with and you combine that with the marine layer slowing down the warm-up and a decent onshor breeze developing. some of the strongest gas are in the 20 to 25 mile per hour range. it is closer to five to 10 degrees below normal further inland wit a similar pattern to finish off the month of may on wednesday. let's zoom in. upper 60s on the coast and around the south end of the bay. low 70s for the santa clara valley had a mix of low 60s and upper 70s inland an in the east bay. the warmest spots are fairfield, antioch an brentford. low 60s in the cit and low to mid 60s for oakland and the east bay. mainly mid-to-upper 60s for the north bay until you go further inland well to the north of santa rosa the temperatures will warm up with more sunshine emerging jus a little bit early. you will se
