margarita resort that then took a violent turn. >> to have an altercation with guns in a petting with thousands of people around them is beyond reckless. >> reporter: authorities confirm nine victims were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds including four minors. >> i saw a young man was on the ground bleeding, and they were applying pressure to try to prevent the bleeding. >> reporter: access to the beach was blocked overnight as investigators combed the area. hollywood police are asking members of the public to share any videos or pictures from around the time of the shooting. >> these that were involved in the incident today will be held accountable for their actions. >> reporter: police say one person has been detained and they're still looking for another. there were nine people sent to the hospital. anne-marie, among them, a 1-year-old baby. that child is said to be in stable condition. >> just terrible.

cristian benavides in hollywood. thank you very much. well, lawmakers are expected to return to washington today from the holiday weekend with a looming deadline to pass the tentative deal to raise the debt ceiling. president biden and house speaker kevin mccarthy are trying to convince house members to sign on before congress runs out of money to pay its bills next week. some republicans are concerned it doesn't cut future deficits enough while progressive democrats are concerned about proposed work guidelines for aid programs. a vote in the full house could happen as early as tomorrow. and president biden spent part of his memorial day honoring american's fallen military heroes. he was joined by vice president kamala harris and defense secretary lloyd austin yesterday for a wreath-laying ceremony at arlington cemetery yesterday. mr. biden said americans must never forget the price paid by troops who dared all and gave all fighting for their country. the impeachment trial of texas attorney general ken

paxton in the state senate will begin no later than august 28th, and it comes after the gop-led state house voted to impeach the republican over the weekend. it means he's temporarily suspended pending a trial in the texas senate. he's facing 20 articles of impeachment including allegations of bribery, obstruction of justice, and misuse of his office. it follows years of scandal and criminal accusations against paxton. he denies any wrongdoing. and overnight russia launched a new air raid on the capital of ukraine. it is the third attack on kyiv in the past 24 hours. as debora patta reports, western technology is helping to ward off the attacks. >> reporter: explosions across kyiv sent children screaming in terror as a barrage of russian missiles were all shot down. for two nights in a row the menacing sound of air raid sirens swallowed by swarms of

country honored our nation's fallen heroes on memorial day, there was this peaceful moment at a cemetery in bellevue, nebraska. a fawn was spotted yesterday resting next tto after a ceremony at the cemetery. well, the manhunt is over for fugitives from ohio, and chicago saw a weekend of gun violence. those are some of the headlines on the morning newsstand. the "new york post" reports nine people were killed and 43 injured in memorial day weekend shootings in chicago. the violence started one day after new mayor brandon johnson unveiled a gun violence plan. the separate incidents involved two incidents involving 2-year-olds who accidentally shot themselves when they got ahold of guns. both are expected to survive, and police say 23 people were shot in the city the week before. "the guardian" says the body of a convicted killer who

escaped from an ohio prison was recovered from a river in kentucky. 50-year-old bradley gillespie and 47-year-old james lee escaped last week and were hiding in a trash dumpster. it took more than 24 hours before prison guards realized they were missing. lee was caught in kentucky on wednesday after officers pursued a stolen car, but police say gillespie who was a passenger in that car ran away. his body was found sunday about 350 miles frhe capeom prin ohi >> a preliminary investigation indicates we recovered the body of bradley gillespie from the river. there will be an autopsy performed on tuesday. we are glad to have closure to this situation and this event. >> gillespie was sent to prison in 2016 after being convicted of killing two people. and "newsweek" says senator

p.m. today. holmes was sentenced to more than 11 years for cheating investors out of hundreds of millions of dollars. she's appealing that sentence. in the meantime a judge has suggested holmes serve her time at a low security prison camp in brian, texas. cruise passengers are calling their trip terrifying and dramatic. passengers have been sharing videos of the high waves slamming onto the ship and flooding the decks. there are reports of broken glass and water seeping into guest rooms. some claim there was nearly no communication from the captain or crew durine neay dozen hours the ship hit rough seas. carnival says the ship is now on its next voyage.
