the same time last year. >> which is what got hundreds of people dressed in orange scout on the golden gate bridge today. demanding something change. john ramos has the story. the goldbrid most iconic landmark and a group called mom demand action has adopted its color after their ten-year fight against gun violence. hundreds of supporters gathered at the bridge for the wear orange martha has become an annual event. >> i'm so happen nay you're here, wanting to take action with us. showing up means so much to our survivors. >> it means a lot to see one of your faces. >> reporter: one of those survivors is arthur who was shot and paralyzed in a random recovery in 2013 and 15 years later. the bullet is still inside him. >> i go to the hospital and the bullet is still there. that's a

constant remainder that gun vie is leeps. >> reporter: it happened to susan when she was just 11 years old. these days the gunshot survivor has become advocates for laws on who can purchase a firearm. >> it's out of control. mental health is an issue. it's absolutely not the issue. it's the guns. >> reporter: with that, the march across the wind swept bridge began. that's not the kind of thing that would change the mind, but it's the show of growing support. he says what's really changing peoples minds are the carnage from the mass shootings that are happening all across the nation. >> it's gotten way out of control. and to turn the tide, there is enough people to think about it rationally. we'll make the new laws. >> reporter: out of control. it's a common expression people use to describe the level of gun violence in america these days. gun rights advocates say

the issue is mental illness. those who want to make guns harder to get believe if you can't control the intentions of angeli people, you should at least limit their power to inflict misery. according to gifford law center, california ranks number one in the country when it comes to the strength ofr gun laws. the number of gun deaths per 100,000 went down from 9.5 to 8.5 between 2005 and 2020. states like florida and texas both saw the number of gun deaths go up during that span. >> more gun laws are on the way too. a measure that will make it harder for convicted criminals to own guns. a third law would require a translator for mass casualty events. san jose mayor and other city leaders unveiled a

big believer that to tackle the more permanent supportive housing. emergency housing is a short-term solution. at the end of the day, we need to make sure the millions of dollars that our taxpayers are asking us to invest in affordable housing happens. unfortunately a lot of our encampments are right around our schools. it is very important to make sure our folks are siions, right? that they come out of where they are and supply permanent housing. >> no word on when he'll be staying at the shelter. he also thinks several other council members will join him. now to sacramento where 16 central american migrants were flown by private jet from el

expressing our love for life. >> reporter: marisa and jonas gonzalez consider the drag brunch their family activity. 18-year-old jonas is attracted to the drag community and could be a future performer. she enjoys having the support of her mom. >> being in this sort of scene will help me get used to the waters. >> reporter: even during the light hearted performance, there were a few moments to address some serious concerns. >> and this year, i think the focus should be on quee r and transgender people are in danger. >> reporter: and even here performers say they do have to be cautious of the ever present potential for a backlash. >> and it is a lot to be a drag performer, where you have legislation that is being passed, and that is anti-drag, that prohibits them from performing. >> reporter: the performers say this is considered a safe space. the shows will go on. it may not be the same everywhere, but for this audience, that's entertainment.

in oakland, police are investigating a hit and run. an suv smashed through the front window of the building. this happened at 17th and franklin streets. investigators say the suv was racing another car when it hit a fire hydrant, lost control, and crashed through the window. but the driver was gone by the time police arrived. in san francisco, two businesses on geary street are still picking up the pieces after they were the victims of the most recent smash and grab. >> betty yu shows us the extent of the damage. >> reporter: video shows two cars, parked outside of cigarettes are cheaper in the

richmond. in the overnight hours on may 31. one thief first uses a tool to try to break the glass. before the group eventually pushes their way inside the store. some burglars were already carrying empty bags. once inside, the thieves start clearing out the shelves, dumping whatever they could get their hands on into a bin and what looks like a bed sheet. in about 15 minutes, they made off with 500 cartons of cigarettes. this as the danger they left behind. >> social security so nobody feels like. like i don't feel safe anymore. i don't know what's going to happen add next. >> reporter: sunny runs the family-owned business that opened in this gary boulevard location about 30 years ago. this is the biggest hit they've suffered. do you feel like it's getting worse? >> yep, because i see every day, i hear every day,

something is happening in this neighborhood. they break into the houses. two days before that, the cops would come here. the police would tell me they're looking for two cars. like i said, it's the same group. that's what he said. >> reporter: the manager said the thieves also made out with the safe. it was located here inside about a week's worth of cash, estimated to be $20,000. sunny said that same night thieves also broke into the doctor's office next door. >> okay, so what they did, they took all the cigarettes from the shelf because this is an all new order. >> reporter: sunny said his family immigrated to the u.s. from afghanistan for a better life. >> we came from far away to work here. and it's not easy to cover. >> reporter: the thieves stole what would take the store about a quarter of the year to make in sales. spending thousands of

tomorrow. everybody else was more clouds. we'll be on the other side. it will be slowly creeping north. as it does, some of the moisture that has been firing up the thunderstorms over the sierra, it's a classic situation. frankly usually you don't see it at this time of the year. usually august and september, when the monsoon season is a little more ramped up. and they will bring it towards the bay area and with those thunderstorms. well, it's doing it now and that low pressure is going to continue to trek north as it does and that moisture will be moving from the east to the west. as a result, we've got a chance for showers on monday and tuesday and a 20% chance for showers. you can see the hint of the easterly flow up here and a few thunder bumpers that are coming out here and also over the sierra. and in terms of the amounts, it wouldn't be much. a tenth of an inch of rain, all the models don't handle that kind of thing at all. by tuesday morning, the threat is still there in the

form of a very widely scattered sprinkles here and there on early tuesday morning. so the chance for a shower or two will remain. the winds are not really big. 10, 20 miles an hour. that's per usual for this time of the year. so the winds are brisk. and the rain would be not much. low clouds along the coast. 20% chance through tuesday. it will warm up again, so we will be in the mid-70s. temperatures will go up and down this week. they will not be in that kind of highs that they like. but i'm in sales, not production. all i can tell you in san francisco tomorrow, 20%, 20% on tuesday will begin to go down. forecast highs overnight will be in the mid-50s. then as we get into the daytime tomorrow, we'll be in the mid-70s in the south bay. this is still not bad along the shoreline with the numbers on the cool side, but very pleasant on the east bay. nevertheless, the clouds will cool up in the afternoon. the numbers are down to 68 in petaluma and novato, so sorry about that. unless you want to
