walking away. from the city's largest hotel. from kpix5, this is the late news with sara donchey on cbs news bay area. >> hello and good evening. i'm sara donchey. we begin with an incredibly disturbing story in the east bay tonight. a woman and two young children were found dead in an apartment and police are desperately trying to figure out what happened to them. police found the bodies around 1:00 this afternoon at the victoria park apartments. this is in fremont on englewood common. betty yu spoke to neighbor who's are trying to wrap their heads around this tragedy. >> reporter: fremont police are on the scene where they have been gathering evidence all evening. neighbors tell us a mother and two young children were found dead inside the apartment. a group of people appeared somber as they gathered on the steps of the victoria park apartments in

fremont's irvington neighborhood. crime tape sealed off an apartment where a woman and two children were found dead inside. police cars sat downside the apartment much of the day. >> this is tragic. this is children. there is a baby. they said they were one year old and seven. so now, we have to mourn the loss of people we don't know and that poor mother. >> reporter: a neighbor saw activity around 1:00 p.m. there were no known threat to the community. >> i'm sick to my stomach. little babies. it makes your tummy hurt. >> reporter: poppy headman didn't know the victims. she rode her bike by the complex to bring flowers from her garden. >> i walk my dog past here all the time. i just saw the news.

it seemed right thing to do. it's just sad. >> reporter: obviously incredibly disturbing and police are asking for help. they want anyone who lives nearby with home security cameras that may have caught something to give them a call. the suspect in that deadly carjacking and stabbing spree in the south bay will face a judge for the first time tomorrow. and tonight, we are hearing from a victim who survived it all. he tells our devin fehely he was idling on his motorcycle at the intersection of kirtner and union when he was suddenly airborne. >> i suddenly felt the rear of my bike get lifted up high and i went flying over the handlebars. landed on my head. >> reporter: he asked we not show his face as his helmet absorbed the brunt of the impact. dazed and wedged halfway in front of the car in his motorcycle, he got a fleeting glimpse of the fleeing suspect. >> both my arms are working. both my legs are working. and i opened my eyes, and out of the

corner of my eye, i caught a glimpse of him fleeing. >> reporter: winton said he would learn from the police that the suspect, kevin pacorana was wanted for carjacking several vehicles an stabbing the drivers. before he was taken into custody, he would be responsible for three deaths and five injuries. a tally of murder and mayhem that winton says leaves him grateful to be alive. >> i was relatively unscathed. i pray. i'm not a religious person at all. but i'm so glad that someone is watching over me. >> the victims were randomly targeted. there was no obvious motive. well, we all enjoyed a pretty clear beautiful weekend. clouds are rolling in, though, along with a chance of showers and thunder. so i guess the question is what can we expect overnight and for the morning commute? i know sometimes you have a really solid idea of

things and sometimes it's a little less certain. >> sometimes it's a thing like this, when in june it is enough there is a chance of showers but it is the instability fighting against the marine layer. there is one shower in northern santa cruz county. otherwise, we're not seeing a whole lot. i'll put everything in motion and zoom out. you can see the little shower drifting from north to south. the bulk of the activity has been over the high syria and the coast of monterey. we will be tracking the showers further to the east. a little ripple in the atmosphere swinging toward us sending a better chance of showers into the bay area as we head toward early tomorrow morning but even so, the activity will be more miss than hit. and it is a lower chance of any thunderstorms developing. if it happens, it will be the first half of the day tomorrow. once we get past lunchtime, we will be drying out as we head through the afternoon with the bulk of the activity in the lie sierra. the

storm prediction outcome is general storms. the possibility of small hail. but the northern sierra. east into nevada brings a marginal risk of severe weather so even stronger winds. and the possibility of some larger hailstones falling out of the storms. that is not something we typically see around california. this is just an unusual weather pattern overall. it is only going to last tomorrow. the rest of the week, we are back to a mix of clouds and sunshine. >> very interesting paul. thank you so much. we appreciate it. bad news tonight for union square. the owner of two of downtown's biggest hotels is walking away. park hotels which owns park 55 and hilton union square announced it will no longer make payments on its loans which means the lender could take them over. the company point today high office vacancies and street conditions as part of their decision. the two hotels make up 9% of the

we are keeping our eye on that. it looked like they had a handle on that. you mentioned the possibility of thunderstorms. >> which puts in mind what happened august of 2020. 12, 14,000 lightning strikes. that is unlikely with this thunderstorm threat. because fire fuels are not nearly as dry. and they are not dry thunderstorms. they will produce some rain so that has been helping in the sierra today. right now, we have outside just calm conditions. it is a bit breezy. noticeable. but popup showers and thundershowers will be possible the first half of tomorrow. then the rest of the week, we are looking at a mix of clouds and sunshine. high temperatures will remain below normal. so the warmth we had will come to an end. at the moment, we are dry around the bay area. the green you are seeing is just ground clutter from the radar site getting fooled by the amount of humidity in the

atmosphere. that is a actual shower that developed overr western santa clara county. drifting into santa cruz county. that is where the bulk of the activity has been today. but we are tracking some scattered thunderstorms elsewhere around the state. once again, the best chance of thunderstorms will be in the sierra tomorrow. but the whole ripple in the add moss fear causing atmosphere close enough to send some showers. allow a little extra time. the best chance of thunderstorms will be with us through about midday. then we get into a drier pattern. anything that develops over the sierra will run east to west toward the bay area. that will largely fall apart as it does try to move in tomorrow afternoon. tomorrow evening. back into our normal back and forth fog pattern. there are some signs that we may not be completely done with the shower chances but it's a 10 to 20% chance over the weekend. and into early next week. something we will keep an

eye on in the long run. but it is weird enough to have one chance of showers in june around the bay area. much less another one headed our way on its heels. the rain chance will not remove any pollen from the atmosphere. we will stay in the medium category through the end of the workweek with grass, olive, and juniper pollen. the warm spell is over: here is the temperature trend for san jose the next ten days. the average high is 77. that is as warm as we are going to be. we are talking about another cooler stretch of weather that will be sticking around for a little while. right now, pretty calm as we look out the sales force tower. a little fog on the horizon. temperatures in the 50s and the low 60s . hovering in the middle portions of the 50s . we will warmup but it will be a day with temperatures topping out near average around the bay and along the coast and eight to
