her front door and killing her black neighbor. 58-year-old susan lorincz was taken into custody on manslaughter and other charges last night. r r, nfront her nghbor friday s' cre roller skate at them. protests were held yesterday demanding charges be filed. the sheriff of marion county told a fox news affiliate this was not a stand-your-ground case. instead, he called it an unjustified shooting. also breaking overnight, at least two people are dead after a shooting at a high school graduation ceremony in richmond, virginia. police say seven people were shot yesterday outside a theater after the ceremony. those who died include an 18-year-old student who had just graduated, and a 36-year-old attending the event. a 19-year-old suspect was detained, and authorities intend to charge him with second-degree murder. they believe the suspect knew at least one of the victims, and one of the school board members described the scene as complete

chaos. >> immediately started to rush back toward the building where yours truly was up right at the doors. obviously we did everything we could to provide ingress, egress, get everybody back inside, back inside the building. >> a second suspect taken into custody has been released. meantime, a 9-year-old girl was struck by a car during the incident. she is expected to be okay. right now a motive is unknown. two past allies of former president donald trump are launching their bids challenging him for the republican nomination. former vice president mike pence is set to kick off his campaign today in iowa, while former new jersey governor chris christie wasted no time going after trump last night in new hampshire. naomi ruchim is in new york with more on all of this. good morning. >> reporter: anne-marie, good morning. today former vice president mike pence will become the first vp in modern history to take on his former running mate.

and his advisers believe starting in iowa is the key to winning the party's nomination. >> hello, iowa! >> reporter: former vice president mike pence will kick off his 2024 presidential campaign today in iowa. >> the answer, iowa, is strong, conservative, republican leadership back in the white house. >> reporter: pence now faces his old boss and current republican frontrunner, former president donald trump, and an ever-expanding gop field. >> i don't think pence is going to have much of a chance. >> i think he's got a great mind and a great heart, and i think he could do well for the country. >> thank you, everybody. >> reporter: yesterday another past trump ally, former new jersey governor chris christie, took aim at the former president while launching his own 2024 run in new hampshire. >> the reason i'm going after trump is twofold. one, he deserves it, and two, it's the way to win.

>> reporter: trump later bashed christie on social media calling him a failed governor and his speech boring. >> let's get things done -- >> reporter: meanwhile, north dakota gop governor doug burgum has announced that he's running for president, writing in the "wall street journal," quote, we need a change in the white house. burgum will officially launch his campaign with a speech in fargo today. now this crowded field of republican presidential candidates must meet the polling requirements to make it onto the first primary debate stage in wisconsin in august. each hopeful also needs to sign a pledge to support whoever wins the gop nomination. so far trump hasn't said whether he'd do that. anne-marie? >> naomi ruchim in new york. thank you, naomi. well, donald trump's former white house chief of staff reportedly testified before a federal grand jury investigating the former president. "the new york times" says it's not clear when mark meadows testified or if he was questioned about both cases the special counsel is looking into.

one is focused on whether trump mishandled classified documents after leaving office. the other is about the january 6th capitol riot and whether trump illegally tried to hold onto power. mixed reaction continues to come in this morning after the shocking merger between the pga and european tours and liv golf. yesterday's stunning announcement comes after two tumultuous years as controversial saudi-backed liv golf poached some of golf's biggest stars with lucrative deals. the pga suspended those players from its events. the deal immediately drops all lawsuits involving liv golf, but it's not known how the deal impacts golfers who joined the saudi venture. >> we've recognized that together we can have a far greater impact on this game than we can working apart. >> saudi arabia will now have a role in the pga tour. the top saudi official will join the pga's board of directors and lead the new business venture.

a group representing the families of 9/11 victims said that it was shocked and deeply offended by the merger. overseas, a major dam collapse in ukraine, and it's triggering mass evacuations in the southern kharkiv region. the u.n. is calling the breach the most significant damage to civilian infrastructure since russia's invasion. debora patta reports. >> reporter: the blast smashed through the dam wall causing a massive breach as one section collapsed completely sending torrents of water surging toward the southern city of kherson, less than 50 miles away. homes partially submerged, some even floating away, and once fertile agricultural grounds now a soggy wasteland. the flooding has forced the evacuation of thousands of people, some fled under fire, others scrambled to protect their animals like tatiana who frantically searched for her

pets, begging one dog not to drown, and searching for others in her water-logged home. the dam holds back a reservoir containing about the save volume of water as the great salt lake in utah and is important for the safe running of the zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant which is also kremlin controlled. the united nations atomic energy body says that plant is safe for now. but ukraine is furious. from official outrage in kyiv with president zelenskyy accusing russia of a brutal war crime, to anger and loathing in kherson. "we were under occupation for nine months," said this woman, "now we have been flooded by these wretched occupiers." the kremlin denies any involvement.des caage on i that this has triggered an environmental disaster, enngerin water and an entire ecosystem.

tens of millions of americans from new england to the midwest and as far south as the carolinas are being impacted. the alerts are expected to last until friday. a smoky haze enveloped new york city yesterday. the mayor urged residents to limit outdoor activities to only those absolutely necessary. a proposed police training center outside atlanta is moving forward despite protests, and there's a new development in the case of migrants flown to california. those are some of the headlines on the "morning newsstand." "the washington post" says florida confirms it transported migrants from texas to california. governor ron desantis' administration says the video provided by their emergency management division shows migrants signing paperwork agreeing to go to sacramento. since friday, two private jets carrying three dozen asylum seekers mainly from venezuela traveled to sacramento from the texas border. it's believed many of them had no idea where they were going despite florida's claims. >> we've believe these

individuals were lied to, manipulated, exploited, and abused, certainly morally bankrupt and potentially illegal. >> last year desantis also claimed responsibility for transporting 49 migrants from texas to martha's vineyard. the "new york times" says the atlanta city council approved $31 million in funding for construction of what's known as cop city despite protests. [ chants ] hundreds of people packed city hall and spoke for hours, objecting to the proposed police and firefighter training center. they say building the sprawling facility in a large urban forest in a mostly black area just outside of atlanta would damage the environment. opponents also say it would further militarize the police. >> the policing promoted by this facility would not make atlanta safer. in fact, it will put our communities, particularly our black and brown communities, in

an urgent warning for parents and caregivers about another two infant deaths linked to an already-recalled pillow. the u.s. consumer product safety commission says that a total of ten babies have now died. infants can suffocate or roll off the lounger. the agency is also calling on meta to ban the sale of these loungers on facebook marketplace. u.p.s. workers are deciding whether to strike this week, and your iphone's auto correct is getting a big upgrade. shanelle kaul has your cbs "money watch" report. >> reporter: u.s. stocks edged higher tuesday as wall street inches closer to a bull market. the dow gained ten points. the nasdaq was up by 46, and the s&p 500 also gained 10 points. roughly 340,000 u.p.s. workers are voting this week on whether to authorize a massive strike.

♪ brazilian singer astrud gilberto has died. she was 83. the star made "the girl from ipanema" an international hit in the 1960s and sold more than five million copies and earned a grammy for song of the year. gilberto recorded a series of jazz albums in the '70s and '80s and released her final album in 2002. prince harry appeared before a british court to testify in his lawsuit against a tabloid publisher. the prince submitted 33 articles as evidence that the tabloids illegally gathered information on him including allegedly hacking his phone. harry called the press' behavior, quote, vile, and blames them for destroying his adolescence.

lawyers for "mirror" group newspapers argued some of the stories in question were already public. they are set to cross examine the prince today. buffalo bills' safety damar hamlin took another huge step in his return to the nfl. he put on his helmet and fully participated in the team's practice yesterday. this was the first time he fully participated since suffering cardiac arrest during a game on january 2nd. the bills' general manager said the next step for hamlin will be putting on pads and tackling during training camp. and it's official, the sanderson sisters are going back for more mischievous fun. >> we shall be back.
