now at 11:00, could a federally indicted donald trump potentially win his way back to the white house from prison. >> people get a choice in this sort of matter. >> om kpthis is the late news with sara donchey on cbs news bay area. >> her sara tonight. we will get to that story in just a moment, but first we do have breaking news. multiple people shot in san francisco's mission district. this is happening at 24th street and treat avenue just a couple blocks from the 24th street b.a.r.t. station. our betty yu is live there in the area. she's been covering this all evening long. betty, what is the latest there? >> reporter: well, jules, right

now we're at 24th and harrison. a block away from where you see a lot of police activity at this hour. right now we have limited information, but i can tell you that i spoke to a witness in just the last few minutes who said that he was hanging out at a friend's apartment and all of a sudden heard a lot of gunfire. he heard screaming, and he said that there was a block party tonight in the street. and that is, apparently, where we're seeing a lot of investigators collect evidence right now. now, police tell us that all of this went down just after 9:00 p.m. tonight. they can confirm that there are multiple shooting victims, but their medical conditions right are not knking thpublstaw there ars thatle ambunces en caedthis scene. so there are presumably six victims. legislative aide of supervisor hillary ronan, whose district includes the mission. take a

listen. >> very concerned, obviously, about the situation and it's very scary. but it's -- this is an outlier. this is a very safe neighborhood generally. you know, i walk around freely with my family, and so do many other people. so we're very concerned about this incident, and we want there to be resolution, but you know, otherwise this is a generally safe neighborhood. >> reporter: if you're familiar with this part of the mission, we're about three blocks away from the 24th street b.a.r.t. station. there are also several restaurants, bars, small businesses, and shops in the area. so again, just to recap for you, there are multiple shooting victims in the area of 24th street and treat avenue. this happened shortly after 9:00 p.m. tonight. they were rushed to local hospitals. we do not know their conditions. i spoke to a witness who said he heard several gunshots and there was a block party earlier tonight in the et. y, m

curious about in that area a lot of rez denls living there. are they aloud to go back in, or what is their fate for tonight? >> reporter: i just heard an officer tell two residents that unfortunately because they live within this crime scene they have to preserve it right now, so they can't go back home. when they asked for how long this would be tide up, this officer didn't have an answer. it looks like it'll be a long night. >> possible multiple victims, it will be a long night. betty yu, thank you. let's get to some other news. it is about the last place you'd expect or want to find sensitive u.s. secrets, piled up in a bathroom accessible to anyone, anyone, that is invited to former president trump's mar-a-lago estate in florida where a newly unsealed federal indictment also revealed boxes in a ballroom tucked under a water pipe tossed on a storage room floor. prosecutors say some of the documents were marked top

secret. some contained u.s. defense and nuclear information that required special handling. the first ever federal indictment against an ex-president lists 37 counts, including false statements and conspiracy to obstruct justice. >> we have one set of laws in this country, and they apply to everyone. >> so the indictment comes with trump in full campaign mode to win re-election to the white house, but could he potentially hold office from prison? >> there's nothing that says they can't. >> reporter: rory little is a professor at uc college of the law san francisco. he says the conspiracy to obstruct justice charge is especially powerful. >> asking one of his lawyers effectively to choose the worst documents and kind of destroy them. >> reporter: trump, who vilified hillary clinton for her handling of classified information. >> she should be going to jail, i don't know what the hell is going on. >> reporter: had this to say on truth social. >> i'm an innocent man. i did nothing wrong. i'm innocent,

and we will prove that very, very soundly and hopefully very quickly. >> no comment on what happened. >> reporter: president biden told reporters friday he has had no contact with the attorney general about the case. reaction from republicans is split. >> it goes to the core of equal justice for all, which is not being seen today. and we are not going to stand for it. >> that's a serious violation t classified material protected. >> reporter: fellow republican presidential candidate ais a hutchinson says trump should end his campaign, but he doesn't have to. >> if people get their choice in this sort of matter, if they want to vote for someone who's under indictment or even convicted, i guess nobody can stop them. >> reporter: as one of trump's former attorneys points out, if he were to win the presidency -- >> if it's still pending, he dismisses the case. >> meanwhile, security preparations underway in miami, where trump is expected in court on tuesday. it's unclear just who will be at the table

for him. trump is shaking up his legal team so much his lawyers speaking for him just yesterday stepped aside today. all right, if you'd like to read the full criminal indictment against the former president, we have posted it on kpix.com. a child predator sting in the east bay ended with multiple arrests and an arsenal of illegal weapons. 15 law enforcement agencies worked together on operation spring clean arresting seven people in and around brentwood. not only that, they seized a cache of illegal high-powered rifles and guns. one of them was built to be outfitted on a tank. and check this out, police even recovered multiple swords in the operation. you can see them above the long guns. now, we've seen some pretty wild and violent sideshows in oakland over the past few months that the city has struggled to control. it's approved stiff new penalties for organizers and participants. they risk a

$1,000 fine or six months in jail, but oakland is still hielding off on penalties for spectators, which other cities have approved. oh, there is no mistaking that sound. nascar is back in sonoma this weekend. and while fans are enjoying the action on the track, andrea nakano reports nearby businesses are hoping they make a pit stomach in town. >> reporter: nascar and wine country may not sound like the perfect pairing, but thousands of fans are driving into sonoma raceway not just to watch the race but also enjoy what this area has to offer. nascar drivers looking to take the checkered flag at the save mart 350 hit the track to get a feel for the course. and fans drove in from all over the country to enjoy the race and the town of sonoma. >> we pulled in yesterday with

we are following breaking news tonight multiple people shot in san francisco's mission district. there is a huge police presence right now on 24th street and treat avenue. and that's a couple blocks away from the 24th and mission b.a.r.t. station. police responded just after 9:00 tonight and found multiple victims, several were sent to sf general hospital. so far police can't give us an exact number, but we are hearing at least six ambulances may have responded. one witness told us there was a block party in the area before the shooting. we will continue to follow this breaking story on kpix.com and streaming on cbs news bay area. well, it's a one of a kind

walgreens. it's making headlines in downtown chicago tonight. take a look inside to see why. besides the pharmacy, it only has two aisles. most of the merchandise is kept out of sight, instead shoppers can order what they want at a kiosk and a worker will then bring it out. well, despite how it looks, walgreens insists this is not an anti-theft design. the company says the digital experiment is meant to benefit customers. all right, well back here in california, residents of el dorado county are making a big push to become the 51st state. supporters will soon start gathering signatures for a petition to send to the legislature. now, they're only located about 50 miles from sacramento, but proponents say there's a stark contrast in the way of life. they argue that as it stands they rarely have a seat at the table in california politics and this move would ensure their needs are represented. >> we do not have one

representative, be it a state representative in the assembly or senate, or a congressional representative who lives in el dorado county. >> i can understand why some people want to do that. and we're so close to nevada that it makes sense why they're thinking that way. i just don't know if it'd work. >> a big question, how the new state would support itself after leaving the world's fifth largest economy. i'm sure they're figuring that out right now. in the bay area, heads up for drivers in alameda county. about an hour ago caltrans shut down a four-mile stretch of southbound 680. it is going to stay closed all weekend long. the closure runs from sonal boulevard to coopman road. caltrans will be doing roadway repairs until early monday morning. and a reminder for peninsula travelers, caltrain is suspending service between millbrae and san francisco this weekend and next for electric vacation work. caltrain tested one of the new trains this week for the first time. they could be ready for riders by fall of

next year. >> look good. >> looking good, sounding good. >> shiny. >> yeah, keep it moving along. to our weather, includes our weekend. a little dark out, but it's night. usually i anchor the -- this is sara's nighttime show. that's why it's darker. that was smart of me, huh? >> usually what happens after the sun goes down. >> help me out here. oh gosh. >> can only go up from here. another little ripple in the atmosphere that's dropping down towards us. the bulk of the energy with this is going to move towards southern california, but it's going to be close enough to impact our weather. it's going to send a fair amount of cloud cover over the bay area. a lot of cloud cover in the morning the next few days to a mix of clouds and sunshine in the afternoons. there's an outside chance those clouds squeeze out a sprinkle or two, maybe even a passing shower by sunday into monday. but it's a 10% to 20% chance. after that the rain chances are

going to be zero as temperatures warm back up. we're going to be climbing the weather roller coaster once again. san jose, for example, goes from the low to mid-70s this weekend up to around 80 degrees by late next week. around 80 degrees for father's day weekend as well, which is about where you're supposed to be in the middle of june. our pollen count is going to wobble back and forth between the medium and medium high categories. grass, olive, and juniper pollen as the top three. if you're sensitive to those, you likely already knew we were close to the medium high category. oak pollen, there's a fair amount of that in the atmosphere as well. san jose, a mix of clouds and clear skies. 50s across the board. not a lot of variation. 523 in santa rosa to 57 in oakland and an jose. our temperatures tonight are going to drop down into the low to mid 50s as the fog and low cloud cover spreads out. but it's not going to be really dense fog in most locations. that will dissipate, but we're still going to have a

fair amount of cloud cover left over late morning toward the afternoon. more of a mix of clouds and sunshine during the afternoon. temperatures tonight in the low to mid-50s. some of coolest spots upper 40s. highs tomorrow 3 to 5 degrees below normal. despite the clouds, warmer than today because southerly winds drag some warmer air up from the south except along the coast, upper 50s again. low to mid 60s around the bay. temperatures inland mostly the the middle portion of the 70s. then we drop back for the second half of the week, which might impact the toyota save mart 50, a phrase that, again, just flows off the tongue. temperatures in the middle portion of the 60s, but that mix of clouds and sunshine overhead if you're out there is likely going to feel warmer than the air temperature. seven-day forecast shows a slow warm-up next week back to pretty much normal temperatures by thursday and friday. that means the upper half of the 60s many san francisco with temperatures near or just above 70 in oakland and a mix of upper 70s

and low to mid-80s for inland parts of the bay area up to around 80 in san jose by thursday and friday. the warm spots will be inland in the east bay, mid to low 80s by thursday, friday, and even along the coast temperatures make it all the way up into the low 60s. one more time, hi, charlie. what's going on, paul? i am here, and the oakland a's did something tonight. you do not say. the a's are going streaking. and the star from san jose stealing the show in the nba finals. aaron gordon has the nuggets on the brink of history.

remarkable here, four children who survived a plane rash in the colombian amazon have been found alive more than a month later. these are the

first images released of them since they were all rescued. the siblings, aged 13, 9, 4, and 1-year-old spent 40 days alone in the jungle after their plane went down may 1st, killing all three adults on board. no word on how the kids managed to survive all of that time on their own or how they're doing, but colombia's president says they survived like children of the jungle and learned from their indigenous families. wow. all right, some 2,000 athletes will make a splash in san francisco this weekend in the annual escape from alcatraz triathlon. the race starts early sunday morning alongside the i labltd. athletes swim to the marina before biking 18 miles, running eight miles through the presidio and lands end. a fitness festival associated with the event is open all weekend at marina green. all right, with the police tape and sirens, some people thought a crime happened in
