san jose just as a city launches another campaign for you to slow down on their streets. and bay area transit beginning a lifetime. the deal and why it's only a partial solution say some. >> let's start with the breaking news. likely are starting to see it on your social media timelines. a big mall shakeup in san francisco. we are watching it all. >> america conference was to stop making payments on the property and started the process of transferring control of that mall back to the lender. westfield and its partner work. properties, have a $500 million loan on the sprawling mullen market street right across the street from the cable car turnaround. the heart of the city's downtown westfield ran that mall in union square for more than 20 years. the most pair company in their annual report blamed work from home for a decrease in foot traffic at that san francisco mall. nordstrom had been renting a big chunk of the mall since 1988. the flagship store financing they will be

where the man hit their the regional medical center. >> traffic deaths are big problem in san jose. last year 65 people died on san jose streets . at the time that was an all-time record. city transportation department just launched a slowdown san jose campaign. part of the effort is to make the street safer in this event. viva caya this weekend. you see people on the bikes. thousands road there bikes car free down roads. >> the more that people are likely to occasionally walk and bike make the more empathetic when they drive a car when they see others on the road. asking people to slow down as the most important thing we can do. >> in san francisco, six traffic deaths this year and across the bay in oakland, five people have died in traffic accidents. only one of them was a pedestrian. >> two they are placed in our kids are investing mass shti wed. on the e ile nineransco miiodis

comeare being talld.itars to be isolated incident. then on the right side of your screen, in antioch, the aftermath of a birthday party. one woman did six others hurt. john ramose went to that location to speak to neighbors. >> reporter: it is quite now outside the house on sunset lane but in the early morning hours, a party at the home turned into bedlam. bob schaffer who lives across the street, was awakened by the noise. >> it sounded like for or five shots. so i got up, the kids were running down the street. cars are going back and forth and a minute later two cop cars came up with their high beams on. we make any statement, police said a birthday party for a 19-year-old man was being held at the home." during the party multiple shots were fired after some uninvited guests arrived, and this created a panic where attendees will include gunshot pick items led in multiple directions and into the

neighborhood and many victims drove themselves to local area hospitals. in all, seven people were shot. one of them an 18-year-old woman who died r atthe hospital. a man named chris was visiting his elderly mother at a nearby house. >> and they're running through the yard and allis breaking loose. people running all over the place. it was chaotic . it was nuts. >> reporter: this was the second mass shooting in the bay area this weekend. on friday night got nine people were shot by a single suspect at a block party in san francisco's mission district. resident cynthia carella said she saw armed kids 12 and 13 years old running through her neighborhood. >> i don't know where they are getting the guns but something has to be done at >> in antioch a woman arrived to place blooms in front of the house but chris says he's seen enough. he's moving his mother out. >> this is nuts. i can't wait to get her out of here and move her to redding where she can have peace. >> from across the street bob

schaffer says he's biding his time. >> friends and family are asking why haven't moved out of here yet? four years to retirement. i've survived 23 years and what's another four. >> 17 people shot in two days. no one seems to know what's happening but gun violence has become so common that many people have given up trying to stop it. now they are just trying to get away from it. >> so tweet us with your thoughts. want to know what you think the solutions are. drug major service cuts for transit agencies. the governor struck a deal last night. it nixes $2 billion in cuts that newsom proposed back in january. the states transit agencies will also get $1.1 billion in state and trade funds. that will be spread out over threes. not a lump sum. bart and muni rejected reaching their fiscal cliffs in 2025. state senator

scott weiner on twitter talking about this. he tweeted that this could solve approximately 50% of the fiscal cliff over the next three years and that to cover the remaining half, they are exploring new legislation this year to create a bay area funding session. >> let's go back to santa fe where they're talking about a budget battle about the mayor addressing homeless crisis. the mayor there wants money in next year's budget evenly split at splitting between emergency shelters and permanent, affordable housing. hitting the problem from two vantage points. we look at the tensions at city hall. >> reporter: laura is a cancer survivor and says her long and expensive battle against the disease eventually left her homeless. >> i spinal cord surgery and in the hospital formants. i got out and they couldn't hold my apartment they packed up my stuff and put it in storage. >> reporter: laura joined three dozen posts protester opposing the mayor's plan restricting

permanently affordable housing. she's lived in emergency housing the past three years. and feels the mayor's plan is well intentioned but shortsighted at >> i started applying for apartments and it was unaffordable. unattainable. >> the mayor campaigned on promises of ending street homelessness. >> the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. if we leave the status quo allocations, we will get the status quo outcomes with regard to encampments. >> reporter: the mayor's budget includes 36 main dollars for affordable housing projects that have already been approved. another $50 million for brand-new affordable housing and a final 50 million for emergency interim housing and services. >> is a clear-cut moral imperative we face to give basic got dignified housing and supportive services and privacy

instability that every person in our committee before we embrace the slow's most expensive strategy possible. >> reporter: laura said she's ready to transfer out of emergency housing to find a permanent place of her own but hasn't been able to find one that she can afford. and that she says is the flaw in what the mayor is proposing. >> i want my own place in my own kitchen have my grandkids to spend the night and i just want normalcy. >> reporter: the june proposal will be voted on tomorrow. nevada. the a's possible move to las vegas is in the air. we have been watching the nevada legislative session in the special session today and the days previous. here's what we know. nevada lawmakers will negotiate on whether to give up $380 million in public funding to get the stadium built their in that state. the senate has been in recess for more than two hours but we are watching closely. frustrated oakland a's band are making themselves heard as well in a reverse boycott. they want to do it during tomorrow night's game.

the fans want to send a message to the team's owners and many of them will wear shirts that say sell. currently the a's have the lowest attendance of any team in major league baseball. >> the top national story we are fun today. former president trump getting ready to make his first court appearance tomorrow following the indictment. this one is relate to his handling of classified documents. christian benavides is in miami were security prep rose preparations are underway. >> reporter: supporters cheered as former president trump arrived at his golf course ahead of his federal court appearance in miami tuesday. >> no doubt in my mind this is a political persecution. >> reporter: trump called his supporters to come to miami. the mayor said his city can handle protest related to trump's arraignment. >> live in the constitution. believe that people should have the right to express themselves. but we also believe in law and order.

the future of cars is the focus this week on the cbs evening news. chris vancleave will report each day starting today with a story out of phoenix. he joins me not to tell us more about waymo which as we know that they are it is google's autonomous rideshare service. you were brave enough to hop in without a driver. how did it go? >> i am still here to talk to about it and it went reasonably well. good to be with you. you guys in san francisco have waymo and cruise. you still have safety drivers for the most part. hearing the next the safety drivers are out in their fully up and running in the right healing service. it works like an uber. you call the

vehicle and it comes in you hop in and hit a start button and you go. of course there is no one behind the wheel. it does take a minute to get used to the fact that that wheel is turning of the cars driving and you are by yourself in there. and we will take everybody on our ride during the cbs evening news tonight. it does work differently than a human driver. certainly here it took a different route than i would have taken that we didn't see anything that felt terribly unsafe in the experience but it is different. of course you don't have to suffer through awkward small talk with a driver and there is no tipping. introduce you to and entering group of riders. there some controversy around the autonomous vehicles in the san francisco area. here in phoenix, they have been readily adopted. driving around this part of phoenix, you see them almost everywhere. a couple hundred on the roads. it has become part of the landscape here in phoenix. an interesting transition that's happening. >> fastening. thank you so much. we look forward to see

saturday in the cooler than normal for a few days before we climb again by the middle of next weut itfe li the laringas we had throh theray weekend on the toofsummhichis n wedny. the pollen count of the next several days. no changer. medium category. looking outside right now from black mountain. a beautiful perspective. temperatures in the 60s and 70s and mostly 60s run the bay and mostly 70s inlet. 75 in livermore and one degree below in santa rosa. cloud cover and fog spreading out through this evening. if you're heading out, the rays versus the a's with the first pitch at the coliseum. low 60s coasting down to the upper 50s. here's fog early morning tuesday. reduced visibility is and will take a while for that

fog to back up around the bay but we don't clear out until late morning. along the coast and low cloud cover will be tough to shake with reduced visibility's at noon. temperatures tonight mid to upper 50s which is normal for the middle of june. heist mark a couple of degrees below normal around the bay. several degrees below normal furtonast. lo mid 70s at the south end of the bay with me to upper 70s and the santa clara valley. inland portions of the east bay with below normal for june with the warmer spots at 80 degrees. 60s around the bay. low 70s for the north bay. southwesterly winds will take the marine air and push it to the north valleys it would go farther north where we will reach into the upper 80s in lake and mendocino counties. in the bay ace slight warming trend this weekend. a little temperature dip on father's day
