. >> millions of dollars in cuts on the line and we hear your rallying cry. today from housing advocates in one part of san francisco. look at this, freeway smashup, traffic backup this is in the east bay. we will let you what we know about the investigation underway. fans, there you are. we hear your message to the team's owner. will the owner here, that is a big question. good afternoon, san francisco is facing a $290 million budget shortfall. what does that mean? well, now the mayor is proposing some cuts of for next year that include cuts to programs that help renters and low income families. painful choices here and now the answer to that. housing advocates rallying against the proposed i've million-dollar cuts today. in fact, they say loss of funds will got programs that advocate for and resident occupancy hotels. >> the sro collaboratives and the city's code enforcement outreach programs are not one halves, they are need to haves.

this is the communities infrastructure. to not only preserve this housing, but to make it everything that it can be, -- >> supervisor aaron says that at one point the city had 30,000 sro units but that number is down from 19,000 and counting. traffic is moving again on northbound 680. this is at fremont where our chopper caught this video over the crash just after 1:00 this afternoon. automall parkway area, you can see traffic had to scoot over to the left. the others were close. no word if anyone was hurt. police are looking for a shooter who killed a 16-year-old and injured a 17-year-old. it happened at the garden apartments on washington avenue just after 9:00 last night. both victims rushed to the hospital but, as we said, the 16-year-old did not survive. another hit to downtown san francisco shopping district,

another one closing. cinemark theater inside the westfield mall also going to shutter. cinemark representative says the theater decided to permanently close and shortly before the end of its lease they made that decision. westfield announced on monday, it is also giving up the mall. businesses have been pulling up stakes and nearby union square, it is line every day lately. city leaders have a plan to bring more housing downtown. board of supervisors just approved legislation making it easier to convert of ttg ro how they're doing i simplifying the approval process. in fact, the board says it also changes zoning rules to allow different types of businesses in union square and downtown. >> while other people are trying to write us off, we are doubling down. this is not unfamiliar territory , dealing with the challenges of the city, but the thing that we know in san francisco is that most people don't know, this is

see and hear you out there. oakland mayor tweeted this picture of herself at the game waiting to fans. she wrote, nearly 28,000 fans showed up last night to show their love for the a's and remind them why they should remain rooted in oakland.". we had to tell you this, there has been progress overnight on the team's potential move to las vegas. here's where that lies. the nevada assembly said together today after the team secured a crucial win for that new biggest ballpark. yesterday the nevada senate okayed $380 million in public funding. that money to help build the they a and this is part of why thatare agreeing to stronger requirements by the a's to help the community, to benefit the community. it still has to clear the assembly there in nevada and the governor's desk and, also, and this is a big

traffic on california. the president of the business improvement districts is the plan as is will hurt numerous wit going into driveways, no parking, it will devastate them. so, we have to give and take and we have to find a compromise. >> the mayor says the city is now exploring ways to do that. in an email shared with business owners obtained by cbs news bay area he says their concerns are heard loud and clear and the city hopes to correct the problem with final construction. >> we are looking at a further tweak to our left hand turns into the businesses if you are on the other side of the street. >> thank you. >> malley hope that the city reconsiders the plan. he sure he will see viewers days like this if they don't. a reality cannot afford to experience. >> moving for the city will not rely solely on the u.s. mail and newsletters to alert people on projects. instead they say they will do drop eyes at affected stores like the one we just saw and use other visual means in the area. we

will watch that story. if you're looking to buy a car or home, this next-door is when you're going to want to pay attention to. the feds are leaving interest rates unchanged but we understand not for long. today they signaled two more rate hikes could come this year. the first one could be as early as next month. >> we have to get inflation down to 2% and we will. we just don't see that yet. and susie today's policy decision. both to write down further rate hikes by the end of this year but also to moderate somewhat the pace with which we are moving. >> so, pay attention, the 2% is where they want to get. inflation was lower in may. prices are up just 4% from a year ago. inflation has been cut by more than half since the peak of the 9.1% that we saw a prices for most things are still going up, just not as fast and the cost of some key items is actually going down. you are likely paying less for

gasoline now. about $1.40 less than it was when it was at the worst and the price of eggs dropped almost 14% from april to may. first alert meteorologist weather now, just a year after being half capacity this is thanks to our historic rain and snow melt. this is the payoff, right? this is like orville at his lowest point in 2021. it's at nearly 900 feet. areas that were once dirt are now once again, covered with water. in the spring of 2021 the lake was so low that, look at this, hundred and 25 houseboats were on cement. they were pulled from the water and dry docked in the parking lot. now the boats are back where they belong. airflow once age compin atmoheric r? there is the

payoff. >> we had both sides of the official aspects but also the destruction that we had back in the winter with the rain and the wind. the reservoirs are full. take a look at the latest numbers. not compared to capacity but compared to average and most of the reservoirs around california are running well above what is normal for this point in the season. close to exactly what is normal. getting close to capacity, the point where we are wondering if they're going to have to do some snrelemelt c an area of high pressure off the coast that is a of very in the atmosphere. it's going to be closer and closer to us. gradually helping to boost our temperatures. the temperatures will continue into the weekend, even slightly above average for parts of the bay area as we finish up the work week on friday and head into saturday. an up-and-down pattern, here's a 10 day outlook for san jose. temperatures a little bit above normal. tomorrow, friday, and saturday and a sharp drop for father's day on saturday. it

continues for juneteenth on monday and we bounce back for average temperatures for the rest of next week for below normal then the rest of june. pollen count higher than anticipated. looks like we are going to spend three out of the next four days in the medium high category. the top three allergens. high clouds floating through, nothing threatening. just filtering the sunshine. temperatures have warmed up inland. the southwesterly wind is pretty effectively bringing in the wind. not as effective as bringing the cool air from san jose. it is ineffective. it brings a cooler eastland. if you're going to be heading out to the a's game, not a reverse boycott but another game against the rays, temperatures right around 64 degrees. steadily coasting into the upper 50s.

seasonably, appropriately cool evening for mid-june. we are going to see the fog developing, spreading out, but it is not going to be widespread and as dense as the past several mornings. what fog there is is going to dissipate quickly as we had to the first date tomorrow. temperatures will drop down to the low to mid 50s across the board. highs tomorrow will range from the low 60s along the coast and mid-to-upper 70s down the peninsula to around 80. right at 80 degrees in san jose. a lot of low 80s inland and the east bay the warmest spots even reaching the mid 80s. around the bay, upper 60s and low 70s. north bay with the coolest spot for inland temperatures. it mostly in the 70s until you go much farther inland where temperatures will reach into the 80s. you can see the up-and-down trend for temperatures in san francisco and oakland but it is not a full-fledged roller coaster by the water. temperatures bottoming out sunday and monday, the two holidays, father's day and juneteenth. normal highs by tuesday and wednesday of next week.

your sleeves today for world blood donor day. it comes as blood centers nationwide are trying to get more people in the doors. in the last decade, the numbers of donors out there under the age of 30 has dropped by nearly one third. since the pandemic high school and college age donors have dropped by half. some blood banks are even purchasing virtual reality headsets to try to help people get at ease with donating blood. there is an action there. we also celebrate paramount community day and cbs news bay area as your community station we are proud to connect with our neighbors so we can share your stories. i was out there and it was my honor, along with many of our coworkers, headed to a food pantry. you know, a lot of our food banks are seeing a growing need year-round stemming from the pandemic. there are a lot of ripple effects. it is not over as far as the effects on people at the food bank. volunteers are out there to spread out the resources. also, we learned it is a good way to learn about your neighbors. >> volunteering at a pop-up or any of the food bank locations is a really great experience. you get to see your community. you get to see that your neighbors -- food insecurity

san francisco's county jail helps inmates get their lives on track. today, more than a dozen earn their high school diplomas. congratulation to them. itrtol's pa of cells are turned into classrooms, deputies in the guidance counselors. sheriff say when inmates receive proper education their chances of returning to jail go down significantly. >> all of us in the sheriff's office, all of us here in the jail, want to see people succeed. we want to see nobody coming back. >> i can finally move onto the next chapter in my life. i can become the successful black man that i aspire to be. thank you. >> remember his name, everett stephenson, we cheer you today my friend. more than 4000 incarcerated individuals graduated from the program over the past 20 years. it just feels good to watch that. >> no bad that comes out of that. >> investing in people, making a life, okay, that is what we
