feel safe walking past drugs and other criminal activities in his soma neighborhood. when the 71-year-old gets to harvest urban market on eighth street, it's not exactly a safe haven. >> a woman came in, causing a lot of problems. we tried to get her out of the door. she was carrying a metal water bolt. she tried to hit people with it. >> reporter: last month, governor gavin newsom launched a partnership with the chp and state national guard to take down organized drug dealing operations. he announced in his first six weeks, officers seized 4.2 kilos of fentanyl in the tenderloin. officers also made 92 arrests related to fentanyl possession, illegal firearm possession, dui, domestic violence. >> more store closures are happening as they don't trust

the city. there might be a few less people on the federal building. and there are still quite a few people and i think a lot of them are being pushed into the side alleys, at least. >> reporter: he shared video of his view on any given night. in the last month since the announcement, he's seen even more shoplifters every day. >> i would say from 10:00 to 20, 30 times a day, some of it is yeah. >> reporter: he believes the market's bathroom is still being used for drug transactions or worse. >> for me, the city is enabling, are they the enablers? are they giving people the money, getting all these drug dealers around because the money is easily accessible. we are just aiding and abetting the whole problem. >> reporter: oud of the state's effort holding them accountable. the early results show promise. >> i would rather be at my age in a place that's saner, a

little more sane and pleasant, you know. and the other thing is you invest a lot of time and energy in your city. i love the city. but it doesn't represent me anymore. >> that's the tough sound bite. so we know since the story aired a lot of people have written to us, why doesn't he just leave? >> that is the most frequent question after we did the story. he said it is not simple. there is a lot of money and a lot of logistics involved. take a listen. >> you make investments, you borrow money. you have all kinds of ties that will hold you down. the city can change its rules whenever it wants. you will have to deal with it. if you can't deal with it, you need to let go of it, shut the whole thing down, and walk away and lose your investment or try to make it work long enough, so you have enough resources to e kind of locked. and so it is

easy to say yeah, i will pick up and go. >> reporter: he also believes he is really providing a good service to the neighborhood. if thmarket closes, people will have to travel much farther to get their groceries. >> there are not a lot down there and it's true. we appreciate it. there is also a debate brewing over whether san francisco is a drug tourism destination. the police chief says since may 30, the majority of the people who are dependent on drugs don't use. >> only three out of 45 lists san francisco as their address and that is not surprising, but something we're paying attention to. >> reporter: mayor london breed has been directing police to not just go after dealers, but arrest people using in the open to get them off the streets and hopefully into treatment. you can see the full report on our

window. it happened in steamboat springs, colorado. the bear broke into the home, made it upstairs, tried to get out a window. the exit route didn't seem to work well for him or her. dangling feet above the ground. he seemed kind of frustrated. but the bear got his barings and managed to hoist himself back through the window and left the way he came. firefighters up in napa county stopped for progress of one of the largest and most significant wildfires we've seen as of late. the snell fire broke out around 6:00 p.m. in pope valley and grew to over 100 acres in a rural area outside of lake berryessa. the response was pretty swift and strong. more than two dozen engines, dozens of tenders on the ground, four aircraft above the steep and rugged terrain. no word on how this one might have started. a pretty unnerving study found five out of the ten dirtiest beaches in the state right here in the bay area. linda r beach in pacifica ranked the third worst. the
