we begin this morning with a race to find a missing submerse nbl the north atlantic sea with five people on board. the small tourist sub disappeared sunday while carrying a pilot and four passengers to ewhe wckagtitanic" it had enough oxygen to stay submerged for only about four days. jarred hill has the latest. jarred, good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. we hear the race against time a lot, but the clock is really ticking with this to find a missing sub with people on board. there are aircrafts, submarines, sonar buoys all involved in this search-and-rescue mission in the remote waters about 900 miles east of cape cod. the u.s. coast guard is leading the desperate multi-national search for the submersible that disappeared deep into the north atlantic sunday. officials say it lost communication about an hour and a half into its dive to explore the wreckage of the "titanic." >> it is a challenge to conduct

a search in that remote area, but we are deploying all available assets. >> reporter: the mini-van-sized vessel named "titan" has enough oxygen to last about four days owned and operated by oceangate. they offer tours for about $450,000. "cbs sunday morning" correspondent david pogue got to tour it a year ago. british billionaire and explorer hamish harding is believed to be on board among the missing. >> hamish is larger than life. >> reporter: his friend janik mikkelsen has gone with him on missions in the past. >> the last i said to him is godspeed and i wished him luck. >> reporter: a pakistani

shahzada dadawood and his son are believed to be on board. they're working to bring the crew back. the clock is ticking. it's really a scary situation. right now states in the south are bracing for more severe weather. severe storms, hail, and damaging winds are baring down on the region. a spotted cloud was spotted in miramar beach, florida, yesterday. gusting winds and torrential rain also triggered flooding in some parts of that state. no one was hurt though. in mississippi, recovery earths are underway after a deadly tornado hit sunday. row after row of homes were flattened by a twister. one person was killed and nearly two dozen injured. >> the next thing i know, ll hell broke loose. i was shocked to see all the

devastation. >> a record-breaking heatwave is reaching triple digits in louisiana and mississippi. meteorologists say hot temperatures are expected through the end of the month. and at least six teenagers were shot after a juneteenth celebration in milwaukee. gunfire erupted yesterday afternoon outside of a church. six people were shot including a 17-year-old who may have been a gunman and is in police custody. authorities are still on the hunt for more suspects. the victims ranging in age from 14 to 19 are expected to be okay. no motive was given. this latest incident comes after a deadly weekend of gun violence across the country. and new details this morning about secretary of state antony blinken's two-day trip to china. he met face-to-face with xi jinping yesterday. the conversation came as the tensions between both countries are red hot. blinken told npr the diplomatic talks were, quote, candid and constructive. he also acknowledged more work

needs to be done since the two superpowers have major differences. margaret brennan is in beijing with more on what the leaders discussed. >> reporter: this 35-minute face-to-face encounter with xi jinping, china's all-powerful leader, is why president biden sent secretary blinken to china. >> the united states and china have an obligation to responsibly manage our relationship. >> reporter: it's meant to avoid a direct conflict with a nuclear power. last month a fighter jet buzzed an aircraft. weeks before a plane nearly collided with a ship. the main goal was to persuade chinese officials to resume contact between the two militaries cut off since august of last year. >> this is a hotline for more engagement, regular communication so that they understand what we're doing and not doing. >> reporter: but xi did not agree.

u.s. sanctions on china's defense minister were an excuse for why he refuses calls. espionage is another pressure point. china recently expanded a spy station in nearby cuba to intercept u.s. communications. >> did you raise the listening post in cuba that was recently disclosed that we talked about? >> i did. i did. i'm not going to to characterize their response, but i told them this was a serious concern for us. >> reporter: blinken's original trip was postponed after a shoot-down of a spy balloon. >> i told them this is an area where we want and need to see change. >> reporter: president xi notably said progress had been made this weekend, but u.s. officials said there were no breakthroughs on tough issues like taiwan. xi jinping warns the u.s. not to hurt china's key interests and

developments. one key development, blinken pressed for the release of three americans wrongfully detained. >> i told him about the original cases of the detained americans. >> are we in a place as two governments where you're negotiating or even talking about a prisoner release, or is this just -- >> yes, we are. >> you are. >> we are. >> reporter: secretary blinken told me that president xi may come to san francisco in november and meet with president biden there, but a lot depends on managing this complicated relationship and all the tensions surrounding it. as for president biden coming here to china, blinken told me, never say never. margaret brennan, cbs news, beijing. well, president biden is in california for a series of fund-raisers in the san francisco area as he ramps up his re-election campaign. mr. biden was greeted by governor gavin newsom when he arrived yesterday. the president also toured a

coastal wetland area and talked about his presidential record. he announced more than $600 million in projects to help communities protect themselves from climate disasters. >> unfortunately some of our maga friends in congress are trying to undo all the progress we've already made in the last 2 1/2 years. they're holding the country hostage over the debt limit unless i would gut the revisions to the climate inflation reduction act. >> mr. biden is also expected to travel to new york, maryland, and illinois for fund raisers. and a federal judge ordered donald trump's lawyers not to release documents to the media or public in the classified documents case. in a court order filed yesterday, the judge also put conditions on trump's access to the materials. he said trump can only review cse materials under the supervision of his attorneys and their staff. trump has pleaded not guilty to 37 criminal charges related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents and obstructing justice.

she led the fight to declare it a federal holiday. minneapolis police are looking at the unauthorized release of a video crash and a michigan man is making violent threats. the "new york post" reports a man was arrested for allegedly stockpiling weapons and planning a mass shooting at a michigan synagogue. federal prosecutors say 19-year-old seann pietela was arrested friday after fbi agents raided his home after discovering weapons and a nazi flag. investigators say there was a note on his phone listing a synagogue in east lansing along with a date and a list of equipment including homemade bombs. he also allegedly discussed the plot on social media. the "minneapolis star tribune" says police are investigating the unauthorized release of transit vehicle showing a hit-and-run car crash that killed five women. mourners gathered yesterday for the funeral of the five women, all between the ages of 17 and 20. police say they were killed friday when a man driving about 100 miles per hour ran a red light and slammed his suv into their car. 27-year-old derrick thompson was later arrested on suspicion of murder. >> this kind of reckless
