hot it could get inside of a car. it was 114 degrees there today. and the worst of the hea is over mexico, not over texas. so it is even worse further to the south. it is kind of the other side of the weather seesaw. we are on the cool side of things. it will not really feel like summer as we head int the first day of summer tomorrow. let's look at the big picture pattern here. we start with a look at the seasons overall and with summer tomorrow, what that actually means. we have the sun in the middle. obviously this is not t scale because the sun is about 1000 times wider in diameter than the earth is and we are much further away, but just the tilt of our planet and how that produces the seasons. we all learned in elementary school that we have seasons because th earth is tilted. elementary students seem to think that the earth tilt wobbles back and forth and that is where we go from winter to spring to summer to fall. the tilt is consistent at 23.5 degrees. it just depend

on where we are in our orbit, and tomorrow we are in the position where the northern hemisphere is directly tilted towards the sun, so we get more direct sunbeams coming down on the tropic of cancer which is at 23.5 degrees north latitude. so let's talk about how much light we will get in different parts of the planet. we will get almost 15 hours of daylight tomorrow. of the arcti circle 20 hours of daylight. at the equator it is still 12 hours. it always is. at the south pole it is the opposite end of the spectrum where they get zero hours of daylight. it will not actually feel like summer tomorrow. the storm system to our north will break into two different pieces and this will set up just off the coast and that means a cool and cloudy start to summer time and even a chance li of missed d ize onth coast. tonight we stay mostly clear, but tomorrow into

thursday and thursday night int early friday we have more cloud and the chance for maybe a couple hundredths of an inch of moisture along the coast. at th moment we are seeing clear skie overhead with a hint at the marine layer. temperatures are mostly in the 50s and the warm spot is 60 degrees. lows tonigh will drop down to upper 40s and a lot of low 50s on the map. that is on the cool side for th first day of summer time. highs tomorrow will only reach into the 70s and one for the most part. some of the warmer spots are in the low 80s but the numbers are three to seven degrees below normal across the board, mid-to-upper 60s on the bay and along the coast the extra cool air settles in as we get to thursday and friday. we will stay in this pattern with the six to 10 day outlook showing below average temperatures all the way throug the end of june but then we start to see changes for early july. so signs that we are getting into may be a more

typical summer weather pattern as we head into the new month, but that is still pretty far down the line. we are looking a the eight to 14 day outlook. temperatures will stay in the low to mid 60s and mid-to-upper 60s for oakland and east bay. i the temperatures will be well below average all the way through the weekend and early next week, but at least we get the coolest and claudia stays out of the way before we hit th weekend. should be pleasantly cool for inland parts of the ba area saturday and sunday, maybe not as pleasantly cool along th coast with highs in the upper 50s. vern? straight ahead in sports, nine innings not enough for the oakland a's! and the giants' second straight walk-off night!
