we hear why she gave up her seat to her son. heavy sentence. the colorado killer pleads guilty. we'll tell you his punishment in exchange for a plea deal. well, good morning and good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. russian president vladimir putin is confirming for the first time that russian pilots died fighting the attempted mutiny over the weekend by wagner group mercenaries. in a televised address last night, putin did not say how many pilots died or how many russian aircraft were shot down, but it comes as the leader of the rebellion said he wasn't trying to overthrow putin. jarj hill is in new york with the latest on all of this. jarred, good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. putin in his speech did not let the wagner group off the hook, and russian reporters are investigating whether western

intelligence services were involved in the rebellion. president biden tried to squash that notion in a speech saying he did not want to give putin any, quote, excuse to blame this on the west. in his first public comments since the weekend's first uprising, russian president vladimir putin vowed to bring the organizers to justice. wagner group leader yevgeny prigozhin launched the short-lived event saturday. dozens were killed off before a deal was called for prigozhin to live in exile in belarus and his men to return to their bases to avoid charges. the mercenary leader said he did not intend to overthrow putin. >> the ultimate outcome of all this remains to be seen. >> reporter: yesterday president biden said the u.s. and its allies had nothing to do with the conflict. >> we gave putin no excuse to blame this on the west or to blame this on nato. this is part of a struggle within the russian system. >> reporter: a russian official

said putin will give them another $1 million in a draw down package. ukrainian president zelenskyy visited the troops in donetsk yesterday. meanwhile there's this video claiming their fighter jets intercepted them over the black sea on its border. yesterday putin gave prigozhin a choice. in north korea tens of thousands of people took part in an anti-u.s. -- anti-u.s. rallies to mark the 75th anniversary of the start of the korean war. more than 125,000 people took part in sunday's mass rallies. during a rally at a packed stadium, people marched, pumped their fists, and vowed a war of revenge to destroy the u.s.

witnesses secret in the classified documents case. trump has pleaded not guilty to 37 federal charges over his alleged mishandling of classified documents and obstruction of justice. he's been ordered to have no contact with the witnesses. cbs news was part of a coalition of news organizations that argued to have the list of potential witnesses be made public. thousands of flights have been canceled or delayed as severe storms moved across the u.s. and the northeast. the three major airports in new york city area were the hardest hit. hundreds of flights across the u.s. have already been canceled or delayed today. the faa had earlier warned that flying in the new york area could be more chaotic this summer with fewer air traffic controllers available. well, the shooter who killed five people and wounded 17 others at a colorado springs lgbtq plus nightclub will spend the rest of his life in prison. 23-year-old anderson lee aldridge pleaded guilty to five

a federal judge has given preliminary approval to a $290 million deal between jpmorgan chase and victims of convicted sex offender jeffrey epstein. lawyers for the victims argued that the bank continued to allow epstein to withdraw large sums of money and take out loans for years even after he was arrested and pled guilty to sex crimes in 2008. jpmorgan said in a statement that its association with epstein was a mistake and we regret it. the settlement still has to receive final approval. well, tesla stock shifted into reverse, and would-be home owners will have to shell out more money. shanelle kaul has your "moneywatch" report. u.s. stocks closed lower monday as investors assessed developments in russia. the dow lost 12 points, the

nasdaq fell 156 points, and the s&p 500 dropped by 19 points. pfizer stock opened the week with a little bit of a tumble after the company scrapped plans to develop a new weight loss drug that would rival ozempic. the once-a-day experimental obesity pill was canceled due to liver safety concerns, proving to be a big setback for the pharmaceutical giant. the company will instead pursue a twice-daily treatment targeting weight loss. major mortgage rates were relatively unchanged last week, remaining in the 6% to 7% range. economists believe rates have studied after reaching a 20-year high late last year, but while the central bank pushed pause on another rate hike this month, it signaled more rate hikes will likely come. and tesla stocks took a hit after being downgraded by yet another major wall street bank. on sunday a goldman sachs analyst took tesla down a peg, downing the stock from buy to neutral.
