find relief from the heat. and then state laws took effect this weekend, one already facing legal challenges from the gun lobby. good evening, i'm brian hecht. >> ima j o'connor. two days away from july the fourth. will have either stocked up on safe and sane fireworks or made plans to catch a firework show. fire officials are once again reminding everyone to be smart and stay safe during the celebrations. butte county fire released this video today showing just how quickly even a small firework can ignite dry grass . and earlier in the week, contra costa county how they can spread and decide bigger. caught this entire health light on fire with nothing but a simple sparkler. betty yu joins us now from dublin where fireworks are still legal there. >> dublin is one of a handful of bay area cities that allows for safe and sane fireworks still, officials are urging people to handle them with great care to avoid an

unnecessary emergency. it is a fourth of july tradition for the be family to take to a show or by fireworks to light up in the street. >> we went to the downtown to see the fireworks and this year we are gathering a couple of friends, families, so we will do fireworks. >> the magic beans and this fountain. the trip they had plenty to choose from at the stand located off of too hard road in dublin. run by volunteers , this supports the rotary club of dublin. it is one of the nonprofits biggest fundraisers of the year. >> all of the proceeds from this, the net proceeds all go back into the community, to the schools, seniors, veterans , people in need. >> what are you most excited about? >> the sparklers. >> reporter: fireworks range anywhere from about a dollar $.50 to $800. >> we have fireworks for every budget, every type of family, some people like no noise, some

people like a lot of noise, and some people prefer color. >> reporter: cal fire shared this video how quickly a safe and sane firework can ignite dry vegetation, especially during elevated fire conditions . con fire also wants to remind residents co-that fireworks are banned in contra costa county. >> a fire this afternoon in hercules that expanded to about three acres before it was contained. that was attributed to illegal fireworks. we have fires every year up to the fourth , for several weeks leading up to the fourth, and even sometimes for weeks after the fourth. this is a real ignition problem. >> reporter: george lang cautioned that even safe and sane fireworks can cause distress to family members with ptsd, young children, and pets. the movie set for them, the fourth is a holiday that brings back a sense of nostalgia. >> it kind of reminds us of home, back home. because we used to do fireworks on to

to miss her at the entrance to downtown livermore, dancing with a sign to sell 17 new homes. >> every 15 minutes or so i just stuck my head in there and it gives me like a mini shower. i hope i don't get your pipes screwed up. >> reporter: a lot of water breaks and cooling off in the shade. >> i've been doing some zumba workouts , or i just jam and rock hard, go with the flow of the music. my phone says i burn about 1200 calories. >> reporter: no slowing down even then the sweltering heat. >> yesterday was really rough, there is no wind . and my skin felt like it was sizzling. >> happy sunday fun day! downtown businesses say the heat is good for business, either, unless you are an ice cream store. >> doing about 20% less because people , it's so hot. >> erin says on a day like today, nothing beats running through the splash pad.

of gun violence to sue gun manufacturers or stores because they didn't follow california law. for example, by not performing a background check and selling a gun to someone who otherwise would not be eligible to buy one. >> what we need to do is make sure that the law is there to fight for ordinary people against these gun manufacturers who really have taken no responsibility for putting all these weapons of mass destruction on our streets. >> reporter: the new laws patterned after similar legislation in new york, and is likely to face legal challenges by gun rights advocates. assembly member ting says he is confident it will stand up to legal scrutiny. >> this has been held up in court . in fact, this law is based on a different court proceeding, which really says that states have the right to hold gun manufacturers liable >> another new law targets large retail theft , specifically it takes aim at the people who sell the stolen goods online. requiring them to disclose bank and other personal information to online marketplaces, thus making it harder to offload the stolen merchandise. and yet another

new law seals the criminal convictions of felons four years after they complete their prison sentences. information would still be accessible to law enforcement and to specific employers like schools ting says he believes the new gun law will bring much-needed accountability . >> too often these guns get in the hands of the wrong people . and really this is about the victims of when those guns get into those hands the victim saying, hey, gun manufacturers , we want to hold you responsible. new surveillance video shows people running through a baltimore streets after gunfire rang out during a block already police are still searching for the shooter they placed an $8000 reward for any information leading to an arrest . an 18-year-old woman and 20-year-old man were killed. 28 others were wounded. at least 15 of the victims are under the age of 18 it all happened during a fourth of july block party last night at first, the judge gunshots were mistaken for fireworks and then chaos broke

the whole foods in dublin today had to be evacuated after a potential catholic. firefighters think the leak may be coming from one of the refrigeration units hazmat team is still investigating they shut down the store for the rest of the day but they do think that they will be able to open it back up tomorrow. fire crews were out in hercules today, battling a vegetation fire. that fire officials say was likely caused by someone lighting fireworks. started this afternoon, around 3:00, and video from the wildfire alert camera shows how close the fire was burning near homes. they managed to get it

under control pretty quickly and there are no reports of any of the homes being damaged. in martinez, fire crews were busy putting out this structure fire during today's heat . it broke out just after 4:30 this afternoon on shell and martinez avenues. con fire says there were no injuries and the cause is under investigation. gosh, it just proves how dangerous fireworks can be. >> yes, indeed. especially this time of year, especially with the warm weather we have been having. >> but now we are going to get a cooldown. >> yeah, temperatures were over 100 in concord yesterday, 107. even as a gift to the rest of the weekend, down into the 70s by the time you get to next weekend. let's begin where we left off, which is what the fourth looks like inland at 4:00 on the fourth of against tuesday will be in the mid 80s, not nearly as warm as we were today, and then by 8:00 and 10:00 , fireworks time will be in the 70s and 60s by 10:00

at night along the coast it will be out to lunch, there is fog near the shoreline on the fourth of july, that is typical for the bay area, it is rare, rare rare when it is perfectly clear without a thing to wo about the fourth of july at the shoreline in the bay area. this year will be no exception. it is going to be foggy by the coast and that means catch as catch can for the fireworks. as for right now, the still warm . in concord, 79. oakland, 62. livermore, 76 in san francisco, 60 degrees cooling trend is on the way. we will see temperatures even inland into the 70s by next weekend. the difference already asked beginning to be felt, hayward, five degrees cooler this hour than it was last night and six degrees cooler in livermore and san francisco it is warmer but san francisco, as you know, often the exception. not as warm and linda for tomorrow, then. a lot of fog because, what is happening is

thousands of california hotel workers hit the picket line this weekend during what turned out to be one of the busiest holidays in years for the hospitality industry. is the latest group of american workers to walk off the job, demanding better pay and benefits thousands of starbucks employees went on strike last week after their union alleged the company wouldn't let some stores decorate or pride. and workers from u.p.s., the nation's largest shipping company voted to authorize a strike if their demands are better play and more whole times jobs are not met by the end of the month. >> the union truly feels that this is a window of opportunity. >> wants to reach a timely agreement that works for employees, customers , and the economy. meanwhile, hollywood writers have been off the job for two months and could soon
