now at 11:00 it is one of the most famously fickle fireworks displays around. will be worth the track to the waterfront, or will the fog steal the show? >> from kpix, this is the late news with sara donchey on cbs news bay area. >> hello, i am sara donchey. if you were going to bet on any event in san francisco that had nothing to do with sports, the fireworks show would be it. you might pack your kids into the car or onto the train and drive your stuff to the waterfront and be rewarded with this. this

is video that is almost crystal clear from 2018. or you might go through all that trouble and see this. this is a blob in the sky that changes color. it is not a fireworks show, exactly! this is what i saw when i covered the story last year. when i was there talking to people on the ground they were so conditioned to this reality that they were planning for it. >> i was kind of disappointed. i thought it would be sunny like l.a., but i am okay. >> okay. she was kind of chill about it. she drove from los angeles. so she was not one of the locals that was conditioned to this, but the closest thing we have to a crystal ball is paul heggen! give us your best guess! will we see the blob of color or actual fireworks? >> the easiest way to explain it is tomorrow evening will

look like this evening with a lot of fog, a seagull flying by. there is going to be quite a bit of fog. it is just a matter of how much of it rolls through the golden gate . i would count on there being a fair amount of fog out there. don't let it dampen your spirits. it is just one of those san francisco things. here is the fireworks forecast for fisherman's wharf. 9: 30 is when the first shells are launched into the fog. i would count on a lot of low cloud cover and fog being present. further inland i don't think we will have trouble. the forecast for concord is looking pretty good. before all this happens, it looks like a very nice fourth of july holiday. temperatures are within three degrees on either side of where

they are supposed to be on independence day. 60s in san francisco, 70s in oakland, with mostly 80s further inland. we can definitely handle these temperatures, especially after the extreme heat we had over the weekend. that is now in the rearview mirror. we will continue cooling down through the rest of the week. i will talk about that and other fireworks display forecasts as well. we will try to get you through the fog. >> one of the better monday's we have had in a while! the people who did not feel like being at the mercy of the fog were on the other side of the bay tonight. they celebrated with fireworks a day early on this monday. people told betty yu that the advantages go beyond clear skies. >> reporter: hundreds came out for what turned out to be a crystal clear and colorful display. there was no fog to

1:43 am
>> reporter: coming to richmond turned out to be a good bet against the fog. >> we might go there to check it out. >> reporter: as for celebrating the holiday a day early? >> i have to work, but tomorrow i am off of work and i don't know what i will do after work. >> we obviously love fireworks here at cbs news bay area! there were more of them after the san jose giants minor league game . the big club also put on a show at oracle park tonight. there it is. part of it. we have posted a list of bay area events for you, and this is where we will stream alive fireworks show tomorrow.

if you don't want to haul all of your stuff, the kids, everybody down there, you don't want to gamble on the fog, we will stream it for you from the comfort of wherever you are watching from. if you like to doom escrow on twitter, this weekend was probably a little bit jarring for you. elon musk made waves when he announced a limit on the number of tweets you can see in a day. he said they did that to protect twitters data. free users will be able to read way fewer tweets. some tech experts think this is part of a larger push by musk to make twitter profitable. >> if you want to use twitter, then you need to login, which means it is the first step towards paying him, then if you want to use it a lot, you need to start paying me. i am curious to see whether it is going to work.

let's get back into the swing of the preholiday. it was a nice night for a sing-along in downtown morgan hill where a choir of children sang to a packed audience at the amphitheater. the patriotic sing has been a city tradition for 35 years. venetia also celebrated with a parade of cars making their way towards the city park. one of the biggest displays in the bay area skies is this american flag flying over san jose. at 1800 square feet you can see it for miles. one man raises the flag on memorial day and veterans day and he has been doing it for nearly 20 years. you know, paul, we have been talking about this monday. we complain a lot about monday, especially this guy. come on. don't deny it. just a little bit! >> slender! >> but a lot of people were going back and forth in the newsroom about whether people were working or not today. it
1:55 am
seems it is a mixed bag point. i think a lot of people stretched it into a another vacation day. we will be here tonight to cover the fireworks display anyway so we might as well enjoy the lack of other people in the building! let's take a look at the forecast as we head into the rest of this week. the heat inland is now done. we are in for cooler temperatures as a stronger onshore breeze will kick in, and that will help to deepen the marine layer and push it further inland. low cloud cover is common across the entire bay area every morning. inland we will see sunshine breaking through by 9:00, 10:00 at the latest. just a drop in temperature is in the roller coaster ride continues, bottoming out around friday and saturday. this is the ten-day outlook or livermore. you can see that things head downward pretty steeply for the rest of the week but then we climbed back up to near or above
1:56 am
average temperatures for most of next week. looking outside right now from salesforce tower, there is the fog swallowing up the top of the building. temperatures are in the 50s and 60s with pretty much everybody on the same playing field after we had a variety of temperatures across the bay area today. some inland spots topped 90 degrees this afternoon. the fog will continue to spread out and it will be widespread to begin the day tomorrow with fog and low cloud cover even far inland, but it backs up out of inland valleys quickly. tamara by 8:00 or 9:00 we should see plenty of sunshine. along the coast the fog will eventually lift but you will not completely lose the clouds. you are looking at gray skies overhead for the next several days. no sky july is in full effect. temperatures drop down to the 50s in almost every spot around the bay area. the warmest spots stay around 60 degrees. if you are heading out to the giants game, second game of a three-game series against the mariners, temperatures will top out in the mid 60s in san francisco around 3:00, 4:00 . around game time temperature should be just
1:57 am
above 60 degrees but at that point the sun should have picked through and temperatures should have warmed up. we will make it up into the 60s and 70s around the bay, most ladies inland, though the very warmest spots are reaching up to around 90 degrees, just barely above 60 degrees along the coast. so 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s , pretty much what we expect for the fourth of july. out at lake park is where the fireworks display in san jose is. temperatures at that point should be in the mid 60s. sausalito is also a 9: 15 start time and the fog might be messing with your visibility as well. temperatures will be cooler by the bay in the mid-50s, similar to where they will be at fisherman's wharf. temperatures around the bay are not a huge roller coaster ride. we dropped a couple of degrees in san francisco between tomorrow and the end of the workweek, then bounce back to near normal temperature is for everybody by next monday. but just a cool stretch of weather
1:58 am
for wednesday, thursday, friday and saturday, pushing temperatures inland into the 70s on a widespread basis, all the way into the first half of the weekend, then we went up a little bit on sunday, back to near average for everybody on monday, and that is likely to continue for most of next week. vern? straight ahead in sports, the curtain raised on the warriors' nba when you humble yourself under the mighty hand of god, in due time he will exalt you. hi, i'm joel osteen. i'm excited about being with you every week. i hope you'll tune in. you'll be inspired, you'll
