not just technically hot here in the states. we're talking about heat that is record-breaking really for the earth as a whole. >> reporter: in upstate new york, the pool was the hottest place for folks trying to find a little relief from the summer sizzle. >> great to be able to go somewhere in the community and cool off. like the pool is awesome. >> reporter: firefighters in maine say 90-degree temperatures have led to an uptick in emergency calls. >> none of us that live in maine are used to this kind of heat. we live in maine because we typically like it a little bit cooler. >> reporter: and it's not just here. for three straight day this week, measurements from the university of maine shows the earth's average temperature reaching record-highs. >> we're going to continue to break records as climate change continues. >> reporter: in arizona, the temperature soared into triple digits. >> i love working outside. the wildlife, plant life. the heat, it's kind of

hospital, including the tour bus driver, and 50 others were also being checked out. the cause of the crash is under investigation. two firefighters were killed after they became trapped battling a raging fire. the flames broke out wednesday night into thursday morning on a ship docked at port newark in new jersey. the vessel owned by an italian company was carried more than 1,000 cars when the fire erupted on the ship's tenth deck, and now there's questions about whether the firefighters were properly trained for this type of emergency. >> this vessel was unique because it's not like it's a residential ship or a yacht. it was a vessel that hauled cars, vehicles, a large amount of vehicles. >> there were no electric vehicles or hazardous cargo on board. it's unclear what caused the fire though. u.s. treasury secretary janet yellen began her first day of meetings in china. yellen was critical of china's

treatment of u.s. companies while meeting with american business leaders in beijing in morning. she said the u.s. seeks healthy economic competition with china where both sides benefit, but she raised concerns about china's expanded use of sub cities for state owned companies and private firms. her visit is an effort to boost china/u.s. relations. >> a former aide to donald trump has pleaded not guilty to charges that he helped the former president of hiding classified documents. walt nauta is accused of conspiring to conceal private records that the former president had taken with him from the white house in 2021. the indictment alleges nauta moved documents at mar-a-lago at trump's request and then allegedly lied about it. and a lawyer for elon musk is threatening to take legal action against mark zuckerberg one day after meta launched its

there are questions concerning the whereabouts of a man who attempted a brief revolt against russia's military last month. charlie d'agata has the latest details from ukraine. >> reporter: the warlord who spearheaeaded that brarazen if failed armed rebellion on moscow less than two weeks ago is back on russian soil, at least according to the president of belarus, alexander lukashenko, who said yevgeny prigozhin had returned home to st. petersburg. no evidence to back up those claims, and the mercenary leader hasn't been seen in public since trying to pull off that uprising. le it comes as the state leaked images of prigozhin's mansion showing a stash of automatic weapons and ammo and a collection of wigs including a series of photos purporting to show him wearing the wigs in a myriad of disguises, a far cry from the atrocities his wagner
