the show last night, and now patrons and employees are faced with the reality that yes, ther beloved brewery is closing afte 127 years in business. there is an error of mourning. one guy said he rode by on mariposa street and noticed that its fla was upside down. anchor was bor in 1896 and survive multiple fires , the 1906 earthquake and prohibition. the brewery had it last near-death experience when it closed in 1959 with only one employee left. a couple months later, stanford grad maytag build out the brewery. >> we would drink it before we would see the grateful dead play. >> sapporo took over and pledged to keep anchor alive, but six years later the japanes beer giant is tapping out, citing declining sales made worse by the pandemic and bar

and restaurant closures that were bountiful, but there is still a tiny chance that anchor could be sold, leaving longtime fans rooting for another comeback. >> i hope there is a company listening that can say i've got something for you. >> reporter: but as andrea nakano reports, it can be hard to keep your head above water i this field. >> reporter: your 21st amendment, the news of anchor calling it quits hit hard, but it reinforced their mission of producing the best, most innovative here on the market. >> 21st amendment brewing was founded and started by nico and shawn o'sullivan. our brewery got started in san francisco at the soma district in the year 2000. >> reporter: 21st amendment brewery has expanded and now ha a production facility in san leandro, producing customer favorites like hell or high

watermelon. in an industry flooded with craft breweries, the challenge has been to stay on top and set new trends. >> craft beer. there are so man people that are thirsty. everyone has something new. tha is gen-z and millennial's. they are purest drinkers and it is all about innovation. >> reporter: the other key has been to remain one of the few independent breweries. >> in craft beer that is something special. you are doin your own thing. you are creatin magic. >> reporter: the craft brewing industry was dealt a blow with the announcement of anchor brewing declaring bankruptcy. >> that stung the industry today. they are unique. they were america's first craft brewery. >> reporter: 21st amendment says this is a time for the craft brewing industry to come together and help out the

employees who were laid off. here at 21st amendment it is about building on what has made them a success in the bay area. >> you stick to what you are good at and you help the people that are reeling from that. lik i said, it is family. it is craft beer. independent or not, that hurts. that stings. >> anchor's employees will get career support packages. the taproom will stay open, selling whatever beer has been buried. it felt unusually chilly an windy just a few days ago considering it is july, but temperatures across much of the bay area are about to get highe and higher. the question is wha can we expect over the next fe days given the fact that the weekend is coming around the corner and it is going to be a toasty one? >> along the coast you don't ge to experience the heat just yet

it will not be that kind of hea wave where the heat makes its way all the way to the coast an you still get the relief. let's take a look at the high temperatures from today as we look at the fog making its way across the bay. normal temperatures today and normal temperatures again tomorrow before the heat starts to build everybody tomorrow is within a degree or two of what is averag for the 13th day of july. temperatures in the 60s and 70s around the bay and the hottest spots are in the low '90s. saturday and sunday we are unde an excessive heat warning for all inland parts of the bay area, but not all inland parts of the bay area will experience the same temperatures. low 90s in the santa clara valley, mid-to-upper 90s for most of th north bay, but more likely to reach triple digits inland in the east bay. just plan on staying hydrated no matter what your weekend plans are, and mak sure to check on anybody who might be sensitive to health -related heat issues. we will take a look at the specific

numbers we can expect as we hea through the weekend in a few minutes. >> i'm glad we have days to prepare for this, because a lot of people in the east and north bay will be very hot. thank you paul. if you live in a fire-prone area, you know stress all too well. you know the stress of clearing defensible space, having a go bag ready at all times, and maybe you have even had to use it if you have been evacuated. now there is a new concern. this week farmers allowed state farm and allstate to cap california policies, leaving people in a very tough spot. just three weeks ago the snow fire burned 100 acres in the area. even the most prepare are now finding that they are out of luck with their insurers >> there were trees right here and i cleaned them up. it was pretty clear, actually.

dozens of people showed up at san francisco's police commission meeting this evening

a lot of them incredibly upset that the police response to saturday's unsanctioned skatin event in the san francisco mission district. sfpd said people were throwing bottles an rockets at the officers , but many of the meeting said that officers used to too much force and help minors in custody for hours. >> they weren't doing anything. i don't understand why they wer held without like, okay, here, it is time to go. why were they kept there for so many hours? i had to go and get him. his wrists were almost pleading. >> sfpd said vandals did tens o thousands of dollars in damage to muni vehicles. take a look at this. this i not an rv park. this is somebody's yard in a suburban

degrees. so if the official sensor actually hits that level we would be in a spot that we have not been since weather records have been kept. there are other unofficial temperatures that have been recorded that are hotter than that, some in death valley, som in the middle east. we are talking about the official sensor's reliable recordings. i is going to be cooking. >> video will never do that justice. this guy's shorts need to be a lot shorter. i can imagine. >> it is going to be incredibly hot there. we are in for a brie heat wave compared to what they are dealing with. let's check out what is in store. areas of fog then one more normal day tomorrow. he begins to build up on friday and then the heat warning goes into effect for inland parts of the bay area saturday and sunday. tomorrow the heat risk, basically the threat of overexertion is mostl in the low category. the moderate spreads out on friday

before we add a few patches of high heat risk on saturday, which indicates the potential for even folks who are not sensitive to heat -related health concerns to maybe have the threat of just over exertin a little bit. we will track the for the hottest parts of the bay area. the national weather service has lumped all inland parts of the bay area into the excessive heat warning , including in the santa clara valley. this is nowhere close t record territory. where you really need to be cautious as far inland and in the east bay and far inland in the north bay with you credit ukiah around 10 degrees and then around santa clara and morgan hill getting around 100 degrees. have a plan to stay cool. this is also the type of weather pattern that traps pollution near ground level. it is even possible that we will add some unhealthy air polity readings to the mix saturday and sunday during the

peak of thwave. for now we have a little fog trying to clean been as we look out from the mark hopkins hotel. the fog will make not much progress int the inland valleys. temperature start off in the mid-to-upper 50s tomorrow morning. high temp tomorrow only reach up to the low 60s along the coast. we wil not lose the marine influence even once the heat builds in. 70s and 80s down around the peninsula with mostly 80s in th santa clara valley. morgan hill and gilroy, you will overachiev a little bit, getting up to 90. the hottest spots are only in the low 90s, around antioch and brentwood. same thing in fairfield. 60s and 70s around the bay, and all these numbers are within a degree or two of what is normal. mainly 80s for the north bay until you go further north. upper 90s for clearlake and you are much more likely to get into the triple digit territory by the time the weekend rolls around. around th
