now, it is going to be hard to keep your cool this weekend. it is going to be pretty hot, right? >> it will be pretty toasty. this is a heat wave that will only impact inland parts of the bay area. so you will not lose that marine influence. that keeps temperatures along the ba and coast from getting too hot. let's look at the specifics for tomorrow. compare the high temperatures to what is normal for this time of year and we ar above-average everywhere but just a couple degrees above normal around the bay, closer t five to 10 degrees above normal as you go further inland, which puts us into the upper 90s for inland parts of the east bay. n advisories, no alerts yet for tomorrow. that happens saturday as this heat wave starts to peak. excessive heat warning in effect for inland parts of the bay area . high temperatures inland range from 90 degrees to 105 degrees, mainly in the delt

and far inland. make sure you are staying hydrated. make sure you are wearing sunscreen if yo will be out and about on saturday and sunday. we will watch the fire threat as well. here is the good news. the fire threat will not be all that hig considering the high temperatures because we will no have the gusty offshore winds . from our fire danger index we are below the halfway point on that zero to 10 scale tomorrow, same thing on saturday, same thing again on sunday. the vegetation will be very dry and there are potential trouble spots as you go further inland, but wildfires can get started, the lack of the gusty winds mea that fires that get started should not spread too rapidly and we should have enough time for the fire crews to get a handle on things. hopefully we get through this without fires getting started. we talk about the big picture pattern in a fe minutes.

>> we want them to have cool places to rest and have shaded in their area. >> reporter: air-conditioners will be running on high in many parts of the bay area. rick seymour from ace hardware says it is probably a good idea to get your ac looked at as soon a possible. >> people run their air conditioner all winter, that gets hot in the summer and they turn it on right then and it overheats it. >> reporter: rick is talking about the capacitor, which is key to keeping your ac running. 100 degree temperatures are expected to hit much of the state, but they do not expect t issue many flexible alerts this weekend. the winter storms are helping to keep us cool this summer. >> we have also had good news from the rainfall that we had

when you look at this house here it might look like a tornado ripped off the roof but police in oakland said one man did it with his bare hands. this of the trespasser climbed up on the roof and destroyed it >> officers tried to talk to hi to get him off the roof. he did not come down. officers left

around the corner, hoping that by them leaving he might come down on his own. he didn't. he started taking shingles off and exposing the inside of the house. officers continued to tr to negotiate him. he ripped off about half the roof that was recently put on brand-new, and at one point he had access to a attic from the roof and he started grabbing rifle cases. >> officers said they fired nonlethal rounds and use pepper spray after he dropped the rifl cases, which turned out to be empty. after hours on the roof the man eventually came down on his own. a stretch of highway 92 in san mateo should reopen within the hour after a hazardous materials spill shut it down fo most of the day. this came from a crack and the chemical is use for water treatment. it can cause eye and skin irritations.

if you drive through the area before the shutdown you are being asked to wash your car. 200,000 jobs could be swallowed by the sea if we don' stop it. the association of governments say that we need more levees, seawalls, other infrastructure to fight rising sea levels and it will not come cheap. the report estimates it will cost about $110 billion to do what we need to do by 2050. >> that's a lot of money. it also means jobs and opportunities for rebuilding things in a way that might be a little bit more resilient. so try to look on the positive sid of things, but there is a lot t be done over the next several decades. this heat wave is more likely because of climate chang

. let's look at the big picture pattern. this heat dome is building closer and closer to us. it is coming at us in two different directions. one area of high pressure which is more atmosphere coming in from the southwest and more of it building in from the southeast. the combination of the weight i the atmosphere will compress th air at ground level and really want things up. let's bring in the 10 day temperature outlook for livermore. you can see wher the temperature bar here is. not going to set a record, but then a quick dropped on the other side of the temperature roller coaster was slightly below average temperatures before we head up again friday, saturday and sunday. so a big increase, a decrease, then an increase again. we have to loo at the upper level wind pattern when you look at the atmosphere as a whole. specifically we are going to roll the globe closer

to the camera here and focus on the heat dome that will be overhead and weakness in the upper levels of the atmosphere. the elevator indicates a storm system that will be parked in place over the northeastern pacific off the coast of what i columbia. these two will play tug-of-war for control of our atmosphere and the heat dome will back off a little bit by tuesday, wednesday and thursday that is when winter temperature level off slightly below average. but they will go back and forth. so the heat dome reasserts itself. some of the forecast models are uncertain at this point, but this is the trend where the desert southwes will be cooking. other parts of california will not get a break we will occasionally get the brakes because we are in the midst of the atmosphere tug-of-war overhead. let's talk about record territory. for mos of us not all that close. livermore will be the hotspot. that will be the peak of the heat wave. from there the temperature should fall three degrees short of setting a

record. with hot weather comes decreased air quality. we will see moderate air quality rating for much of the bay area tomorrow, but unhealthy for sensitive groups readings are more likely in the santa clara valley. make sure that you are trying to reduce the amount you are driving around tomorrow an do the same over the weekend because the air quality is not likely to improve. there is the fog swallowing up downtown. it will be a compact marine layer. temperatures in the 50s and 60s for the most part. the numbers back down into the mid-to-upper 50s by early tomorrow morning before we heat up. tomorrow is the transition day. above-average inland but just a couple degrees above normal around the bay and near-normal around the coast. temperatures are in the mid-80s around san jose but mid-to-upper 90s aroun the east bay with hotspots approaching 100 degrees already the warm-up will be subtle in san francisco. low 70s saturday and sunday. around 80 degrees for oakland in the east bay, then everybody drops back to

i have the feeling this is why a lot of people don't serve not what you want to see when you are out there. drone footag off the coast of southern california . a great white shar circling a group of surfers. at certain points they were just feet away, but both the sharks and surfers seemed unimpressed with each other. you can see it did not stop anybody from catching waves and the shark wa minding his own business. great white sharks are rare despite their reputation. if you still want to get in the water after that you can beat the heat in long beach by heading to this floating playground right off the shore. oh my gosh, this looks so fun. it is back to last year by

there is a serious debate i california about how to create housing in a place that does no have enough of it. this next story is not quite affordable because it is a half-million dollar listing in san rafael getting a lot of attention online. it was an office that was converted to a one bedroom condo. office to housing conversions are being talked about a lot, but again, this i not affordable housing. so this is the building. the exterior does not look much like a conversion. it still looks like a lot of strip malls. this is the inside, the living room and kitchen area originally with fluorescent lights. >> and drop ceilings? okay. >> this is where your bed would go. >> in a glass cage? it could be the glass cage of emotion! anchorman quote. >> yeah, then take a look at this. here it comes. if you are
