11:05 pm
people from steel stealing just about everything in the freezer betty tweeted about this writin that story employees said they're sometimes hit 20 times day at the location. the tweet got the attention of the owner of twitter himself, elon musk. we asked walgreens about the chain, and they told us that retail theft is a top problem nationwide. okay, i don't think i've ever seen thieves try so many things to break in somewhere. this happened at a restaurant i oakland's little saigon neighborhood yesterday morning. you see both of them struggling to open the door with a crowbar that doesn't work, so they go t plan b. they made a kind of battering ram attaching it to the back of the van, slamming that into the restaurant. all that did was break a water pipe so they tried to use a power tool to get through the metal gate. while water was pouring out, that didn't work either so
11:06 pm
they went back to using the crowbar. eventually the crowbar ripped off the security gate, and even after tying ropes to the car to try and get in another door, they couldn't get in, so they just drove away. this is a lot of chaos happening in one video. for example, why is that prius speeding away backwards with th driver's side door wide open? good question. last thursday, a delivery driver was picking up an order from square pie guys when someone tried to take off with his prius, but the car was in reverse. two more delivery drivers chased after the car to try and hem. help, one in a car one on a scooter, all while the poor prius ordinary reason was running after his car. the whol thing was caught on camera. >> the crime has gotten out of control! let me tell ya. people

are just robbing individuals right in broad daylight, reversing down the street with the door flipped off. it's wild out here. san francisco, man, w need to clean this whole situation up. >> he's gotten attention before for other viral videos of city life, but he says this one surprised even him. >> when they seen one of their coworkers getting robbed of their car, they had empathy for him and said we'll follow the car until police arrive on the scene. it was hard to decipher what's going on in the video. i feels almost staged. >> one of the craziest carjackings we've seen on camera. another shooting on a bay area freeway to tell u about. up unfortunately a driver was hit on 980 in oakland. the victim drove themselves to the hospital and will be okay. this

comes just days after an eight-year-old boy was caught i a gun battle and is still in grave condition. tonight, the mayor of oakland is getting a raise, but nowhere near as much as she could have gotten before the community pushed back. >> there's nothing wrong with getting a boost. there's nothin wrong with that. but getting something that what has she done? we don't have a chief of police. we don't have a fire chief. we don't have any of that. >> the mayor currently makes about $203,000 a year. the city charter requires that to be reviewed every other year and gave a range for a salary from between 216,000 and $277,000 to , the council voted for a raise for the minimum amount, a 6.5 increase over ten years. still ahead, a car literall flies through a neighborhood an punches a hole into a house.

thai food is known for bein hot. in fact, that's what a lot of people love about it. but on woman says this a south bay restaurant's thai food was so spicy, she's suing. she ate at the restaurant in 2021 and ordered spicy chicken balls wit chilis. the suit claimed she asked for it to be mild, saying she couldn't handle spice. she claimed it burned her mouth and tongue, and later led to a diagnosis of internal chemical burns. and the lawsuit isn't just going after the restaurant itself. it's actually going after everyone that had anythin to do with the dish from the cook to the server. the lawsuit claims that the thai bird's eye chili made the dish unfit for human consumption. she's suing for damages in excess of $25,000. we reached out to the restaurant twice, but haven't gotten a response from the owne just yet.

some very shocking video ou of eastern missouri tonight. a car literally goes flying into house. police say the car was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed when it hit an embankment, went airborne, significantly airborne. the driver was killed. amazingly no one in the house was hurt, but there were five people in there including a three-year-old that was sitting on a bed that literally moved across the room on impact. it is the calm before the storm in southern hawaii tonigh as tropical storm calvin approaches. the big island is preparing for several inches of rain and flooding as calvin scrapes by overnight. but the impact could be felt across the whole island chain. the good news here, the storm has weakened as it's moved across the pacific. it was once a category 3 hurricane. obviously that's a big difference from a land falling direct hit

hurricane. >> flooding rains will be the biggest concern, especially wit the terrain of the big island. but usually it's the case the storms weaken as they approach the island chain. >> and one final note, paul is losing his voice tonight, so i have just gladly volunteered to step in and read part of the numbers, the only part i understand. >> the words are in english too we put up on screen. >> this is your forte. >> let's look at the big pictur pattern. back to normal temperatures for now. it's a temporary thing because the hea dome over the desert southwest will be reasserting itself heading towards the end of the work week and into the weekend. enjoy the temperatures in store for tomorrow. we have some smok in the atmosphere. i think that's part of what's impacting my voice. smoke drifting down from the flat fire in southwest oregon down the coast and movin with the on shore winds across the bay area. kind of concentrated in the east bay where i live, thus the voice. i
11:15 pm
think we'll see another batch o smoke floating down the coast and potentially deteriorating our air quality late tomorrow. lot of it is elevated atmosphere, but some is dragged down by gravity. we'll watch that tomorrow and again on thursday, but eventually the ai quality will be an issue due to the weight of the atmosphere on top of us as the heat dome builds. into the moderate category by saturday. that's primarily from ground level ozone that builds in the heat events. not as hot as last weekend, but still toasty. the fog swallowing up the buildings in downtown san francisco. temperatures not much vary case between 55 and 62 degrees. not seeing that wider range we had while the warmer temperatures were with us. through tonight, the fog will drift through the inland valleys and is widesprea to start the day tomorrow, but should back up to the coast by midday. you'll have a hard time shaking the fog tomorrow at the coast with gray skies overhead
11:16 pm
most of the day. temperatures tonight dropping into the mid t upper 50s to around 60 degrees, which is normal for this time o year. highs also within a few degrees of average for the middle of july. zooming in for closer look before my voice entirely disappears. 60 along the coast. 70s to near 80 on th peninsula. a little farther int the 80s in santa clara valley and the further inland you go. close to 90 in the delta. 60s i both san francisco and oakland. around 80 for most of the north bay until you go much farther inland with temperatures into the upper 80s and even the 90s. temperatures reaching around 70 in san francisco for the warmes days friday and saturday. upper 70s in oakland. not too much of a warming trend there, but hotter temperatures inland. int the 80s in san jose for friday and saturday, and close to 90.
11:17 pm
further north into the 90s and close to triple digit territory in the east bay. that's not as hot as last wednesday, but stil toasty. back to near average by early next week. >> that was gritty, that was gutsy! coming up in sports, the a's trying to get their first win in two weeks and the giants win streak still intact after a long and wild day in cincinnati
11:20 pm

investigators searched a home just outside of las vegas this week. they searched a home in henderson, about 20 miles from the strip where tupac died. the won't say who owns it or what they found, but a former lapd detective believes this could involve a former gang member dwayne davis who boasted about his involvement in the murder for years. >> he talked to our task force in 2009 about his involvement i the murder. you put one develop together and it's pretty sure that this individual dwayne davis is the focus of the investigation in las vegas. >> dwayne davis is now in his late 70s. police have still never filed charges in the case actors and writers have bee out on the picket lines once again today. this, of course, involving the strike. as of
