the hill. if you want to know where this is, this is sanchez street near dolores park. it happened saturday and we spoke neighbors to say it is to them that this group was in a stolen car. >> reporter: the kind of crash that you might see in a hollywood movie. a car barreling through a guardrail on a dead-end street in dolores heights. flew down the embankment, knocking down a tree, and landed upside down. it happened at 19 and sanchez around 720 on saturday. >> there is a woman pulling out a guy, bloody, and the guy had a full face mask , black, dressed in black. she was in black, red hair, yelling at them. we have three minutes to look up scum. we have three minutes, maria . it reminds everybody inside the car fled the scene. >> reporter: the five people were helped inside. >> we saw people , there was bottles of alcohol being poured

onto. there up to no good. they are vandals. you could tell by the way they were dressed, spilling out of their car. do not touch me. >> reporter: this neighbor said he spoke to a man who said he had been carjacked. >> basically kicked him out of his car a couple minutes before, somewhere down the block. he fought them, they hit him. in the head, i think, with a gun. he said, when they were fighting, his shirt got torn. >> reporter: this drop is estimated to be at least 50 feet. one witness told us that a police officer said "a gun was also found at the scene". >> it's a great example of how the lawlessness in san francisco has real impact on the actual citizens and neighbors who live in the city. and so, i hope this is a little bit of a wake-up call to our politicians that we need to prosecute crimes, and more police officers.

thousands of dollars. this was part of a long-term drug and weapons investigation. police say these two, they were the ones who are booked into custody. the bell right now is sitting at about $5 million. san jose police also arrested a shooting suspect who barricaded himself inside a home, police believe he fired one round on residents drive south of highway 237, a s.w.a.t. team went onto the scene, they were there since 4:00 in the morning. our cameras were there. we stuck around to show you the end of this. the suspect surrendered around 6:30 a.m. a man hit and killed by s.e.c., he struck the man near camden avenue and highway 85 early this morning. they see the driver had the green light, and stayed there to cooperate with the police. new video of the aftermath of a scooter caught on fire inside a san francisco apartment building. still smoking there, firefighters

francisco. the woman in san francisco share her story. >> the shooting happened right here on southbound near allegheny boulevard. the victim tells me a lane change and in her life. >> reporter: the gunshot wound, the bullet remains in her right thigh stuck in the muscle. >> the trauma doctor told me how lucky i was that the trajectory of the bullet was on would've hit my major blood vessels and i could've very easily let out. >> reporter: the gunman is still on the loose. >> i am alive, i hope my family that night. the shooting happened in san francisco. she was driving on southbound 101 where she changed lanes to the south bound 280. that anger the driver behind her. there was no verbal or nonverbal interaction with that man. >> he was driving so

are saying not so fast. >> reporter: this hotel is the latest battleground in the struggle against homelessness . it is a golden opportunity to get people off the streets? or an unfair burden being laid on a small community? the la quinta hotel on el camino royale serves travelers arriving. but the owners send the profitability is not there anymore. and the plan is to sell it to san mateo county for use as permanent housing as a part of an initiative called functional zero homelessness. county executive officer mike calvi spun the idea on the community on tuesday's council meeting. >> we need to give people the dignity and respect of people having their own growth, their own opportunity to take a shower and privacy. wraparound services. permanent residence, shopping here. working in. they will be part of the

community here. >> reporter: the community may not be happy about that. anger that the county never consulted them, city leaders and community members protested outside the hotel on friday. >> we have, for some the decades, stayed silent, when i outsiders do it to us. >> reporter: paul larson owns the funeral chapel across the street. says efforts to fight poverty should not impoverish small communities. >> having a way for the homeless or the people need help to get out of that situation is good, but the same time, look at the surrounding community, what are their needs? >> reporter: the city does not have the large businesses to generate tax revenues. but the la quinta inn is important because they charge transient occupancy tax which also contributes about hundred thousand dollars per year to city coffers. >> losing a hotel here is almost like cutting off a finger. >> reporter: there is the question of fairness. the

councilmember, anders funk, says the city has worked hard to decrease it's on house population from over 100 down to about 20. filling a 99 room hotel would mean busting almost renaissance from other cities in the county. >> we need to meet the residence where they are. and we need to service and help these folks where they are. functional zero homelessness in san mateo county needs to stop with functional zero homelessness in every city within the county. >> reporter: if homelessness is a universal problem shared by every community, he says let them be shared as well. city officials say the county is not provided any information about house and the purchase of the hotel could happen. so far, the program is creating 13,000 homes for more than 200 projects across the state. allocated $736 million in
