talking about with the inspiration being the 1989 worl series between the giants and a's. in big letters, unite the bay. paul bailey, who you just heard from, says he knows this is a series that draws a lot of people and they are hoping gian fans will you night with them. this is an unfortunate situatio for a's fans. they are loyal an want their team to stay in the bay area. when it comes to giants fans, this is a friendly rivalry. i know a few fans that enjoy the battle of the bay series. we have to wait and see if they support a's fans come tonight. >> thank you so much. first pitch is set for 6:45 tonight. now to other stories we are following from all around the bay. five suspects, mostly juveniles are upped arrest in home invasion robbery and attempted robbery in san jose. police say evan hailey shot a person on june 11th at a home that he allegedly broke in to.

thankfully the victim survived. detectives identified hailey along with four juvenile suspects. then last week they searched their homes and arrested them. officers say the found a ghost gun, four unregistered guns, magazines an hundreds of rounds of ammunition. >> we sincerely believe that on or more firearms taken off the streets from these suspects likely eliminated the possibility of another shooting or homicide from occurring in the city streets of san jose. from san jose to oakland. a attacking an asian woman in downtown san francisco. prosecutors say james lee ramse kicked her to the ground last friday. he faces felony charges including assault and elder abuse. police arrested ramsey in 2021 after oakland chinatown charlie chan was attacked. ramsey was convicted of a assault in that case but hate crime charges were dropped as part of a plea deal.

kaiser health workers are o the picket lines at more than 4 facilities across the state. 17 in the bay area. a union coalition representing 85,000 workers is demanding better pay and benefits. workers say that that would fix the severe staffing shortages they face since more employees are leavin kaiser to work elsewhere. >> it's been this way even before the pandemic. it's now worse. so, enough is enough. we are tired, frustrated. >> that is terina. the old unio contract is set to expire at th end of september. kaiser says i many regions it pays workers above market average. kaiser releasing a statement where we are in the bargaining process, it's clear the picketing by the coalition isn't about drawing attention to new issues but an attempt to create bargaining leverage. that is the words of kaiser and all medical facilities will be open. they

unfiled. we have learned that this could take years to fix. cbs national investigative correspondent stephen scott asked transportation pete buttigieg about what he will do >> what is your office doing to address the issue? >> we need to build a new generation of aviation workers. we see retirements, attrition a the same time that we see demanding up. we know there wil be more demand than ever for aviation workers. we had the largest number of passengers ever recorded. >> i want you to look in your crystal ball. what would you tell consumers. are we looking at five to 10 years before it shakes out. >> this is not something worked out overnight. it took years to get this way. we have an opportunity to talk to him now. stephen, you see the people in line behind you. then all of us are really in line. is it going to be five years of waiting in line for a

fix. >> reporter: absolutely. it's that big a problem and it will take years to train new people. you can't get hired and go to work being an air traffic controller. last month, the inspector general for the department of transportation criticized the faa for not getting ahead much this and taking the steps needed to get enough air traffic controllers in major airports like dallas-fort worth, san francisc international, sjc, oakland all are down less than 85% when is the optimal level. it will be a long time before this problem i fixed. >> anything from transportation secretary pete buttigieg about what we should be doing while w wait? >> reporter: patience and mack plans. try to travel in the off hours. i asked secretary buttigieg about how much culpability the airlines carry for this. he told me that several airlines are under investigation prompted by our

have been frequent this summer. it's part of a pattern that marine scientists noticed related to warmer water. kenny choi has a look. >> reporter: endangered hump backs gliding to the surface of the water, making cameos in the bay one after the next. >> while watching adventure begins now. >> reporter: captain joe doesn' have to navigate very far from pier 39 to find the gentle giants. >> this year has been excellent whale sightings. >> right here. >> reporter: whale tours are spotting plenty of hump backs near the golden gate bridge. years ago a long trek would be needed to cross paths with the majestic marine mammals. >> it's so awesome to see everything all around us.

>> i saw three. >> you saw three? >> the whole experience is to connect people with whales and showing them that there is actually beautiful ma'am mass here out of the metropolitan city that we live in, san francisco. >> reporter: it's not just the whale tourism industry making the observations. in sausalito, they regularly conduct surveillance from on shore and by boat. >> as these surface temperature rise, in shore populations of fish like anchovies seem to increase. >> reporter: that's one of the reasons the sightings closer to shore are happening in recent years. the food source is directly connected to changing water temperatures. >> the whales follow the food source in. when the water is colder, the alternate prey, krill, increases offshore and they will follow the prey at that time. >> reporter: near gur anteed while says would seem like a

boon but a fleet of three boats is now only one. on this day only about a dozen can come out >> the business can't sustain itself. we are very close to that time. >> you have to be patient. >> reporter: they executed positivity for something customers how mother nature is moving in ways to bring the majestic creatures close to the bay. >> it never gets old seeing a whale no matter how many i see everyday. it's amazing to be in the presence of an amazing animal. >> reporter: they have had whal sightings 97 out of every 100 trips this season. if you don't see one you ride free until you do. the only unknown is when al the tourists will return to the city by the bay. >> kenny, thank you so much. marine biologistists say the best time is one or two hours before or after high tide. make a trip of it. time for a look at the

forecast with darren peck. if you go whale watching, what wil you be in. >> under the golden gate bridge it will be cloudy. you can see that from the top of the sales force tower. we have the marine layer trying to work its way in for the entire bay. right now it's limited to the immediate golden gate. it looks spectacular. this is a time lapse to watch the last few hours of it streaming in. in terms of forecasting the weather, you can tell a lot by looking at what the marine laye is doing. never the same fog bank twice. in this case, you can almost visualize the high pressure pushing down on it and keeping it fairly low. that cloud deck, the fog bank would like to rise up higher than it is now and the fact that you can't see the golden gate bridg is very telling. those towers are 750 feet tall and right at the top of that cloud deck. whe we get in to the hottest days, high pressure pushes it so far down you can see the whole bridge. today the fog has been able to rise just a bit and it'

just struggling to get over the bridge towers. tomorrow it will go higher. that means the pressure will be less. it's lower pressure pushing down, no as intense, lower. so, we will see the clouds rise higher. whe that happens, we cool down. low pressure will start to take ove and it will help out with the temperatures. let's do the comparison on how this is affecting daytime highs. averag for livermore, santa rosa, thos are the average numbers. let's switch it to what we are doing today. we are relatively warm inland. at 93 for livermore. those aren't the official highs made it to 93 in santa rosa. 81 redwood city. some of the numbers are on mark. the inland lotions are warmer than average that is going to change by tomorrow. then for the rest of the seven-day forecast, we are going to stay below average. here are today's numbers, 96

livermore. 90 concord. 82 san jose. and santa rosa 71. concor is the example. for concord i think we can probably spot the weekend more than anything else saturday and sunday, 88 is average. those two days on saturday and sunday are coming in below that mark. most of the seven days will be doing that. we spot like the weekend in a seven-day forecast. it works out. the temperatures make it nice enough to do it again. san francisco and oakland, average or below. santa rosa on top. sa jose below. 80 in san jose for most of the week. a couple of degrees below average. there ar the numbers we saw for the

some say driverless cars ar the future. in san francisco we know we are at the forefront of what could be one day an autonomous world. a lot of you we hear from say you are fed up with robotaxis on city streets. not everyone takes it as far as one group of protesters. itay hod has more. >> reporter: they come out afte dark riding their bikes in pack and wearing masks to conceal their identities. >> we flag around in the main travel routes and wait for them >> reporter: called safe street rebel, they are roaming the

streets of san francisco huntin for a specific kind of car, robotaxis. their goal is to disable them using orange cones as their weapon of choice. >> we see a lot of problems wit these. >> reporter: john who asked us not to use his real name is the group's unofficial spokesperson >> we are in a climate emergenc and transportation is the numbe one source of emissions. >> reporter: for the last two weeks, this band of anticar activists is a thorn in the sid of big tech companies like waym and cruz. once the cars are disabled, they are stuck until technician arrives to reset them. >> reporter: what are you hopin to achieve? >> change the ksks on these. we want more people to consider whether we want these on our roads and really we want regulators to listen. >> reporter: they believe the cars are not only unsafe but ar taking away much needed resources from more efficient

public transportation. here is why they are protesting the expansion of robotaxis. >> reporter: it has gone viral just as transportation official are considering whether to expand driverless services in san francisco. in a statement, waymo called the group's action vandalism. he said they are providing free rides to late night workers and meals to food insecure san franciscoans. safe street rebel says it only disables empty cars to make sur that no one is harmed or inconvenienced. >> cruz says it hasn't impacted them that much. how many cruz cars do you reckon you have stopped? >> personally, i have done in the high dozens. i invite peopl to look at cruz's statements where they say we are disruptin food delivery and not affecting their fleet. one or the other. they both can't be true.

>> reporter: are they bluffing. >> yes. >> reporter: billy rigs is an adviser to tech start ups. he says the cars are fully electri and better for the environment and safer with millions of mile driven on public roads they had zero fatalities. >> we reached a level where ai can actually do many of the functions in our lives better than we can with less margin fo error. >> reporter: even so, city officials have raised concerns about whether these cars are ready for prime time. waymo and cruz have made headlines after getting stuck in the middle of busy intersections. in some cases they blocked first responders from doing their job the san francisco fire department says it logged more than 60 incidents involving these cars since may of 2022. safe street rebel wants more accountability. >> i think broadly san
