things. >> i am excited as a parent, looking forward to getting back on track. hundreds of demonstrators demanding immigration reform as they march. in a city word dozens of officers are suspended, the destructive side is pushing residents to the brink. it is already time for students to go back to school. schools are getting ready to welcome students, teacher and staff back. those teachers are demanding higher pay and more resources. with the district agreeing to a raise and support staff as well as good faith clauses. >> reporter: this oakland resident and her 12-year-old daughter are making a final

grocery run before school starts on monday. >> i am excited as a parent. >> reporter: in may the teachers union went on strike for two weeks. the agreement reached between the oakland district and the strike brought in more support staff. >> is she getting a good education in oakland? >> some students complain, they complain about the school lunches. >> reporter: her seventh grader picked out her own lunch this week. they said art lessons will play a big role in the learning process. she is taking on a new role as the

principal, she says students will have more support across the district. >> the first 30 minutes after school, there will be intervention classes, teachers will identify students that need extra support. >> reporter: the new deal also included common good clauses, aimed at improving social and economic conditions including the commission of a black reparations task force. helping students in decision-making on how to spent thousands of dollars. >> i am looking forward to a healing process. i am looking forward to a school that is not interrupted. >> a lot of the students fell behind. i am looking forward to getting back on track.

>> they are getting ready for the new school year in daly city as well. there was a community event held in partnership with daly city and the local nonprofit. supplies will be given to underserved schools in the area. to the north bay where immigrants and families began a three-day march to san francisco to demand action on immigration reform. >> reporter: many people faced a long arduous journey to get to the u.s. and now they say it has been a longer journey to get the right to stay. in the 1920s the huddled masses of immigrants began arriving from europe. those that lived here for seven years became eligible to stay permanently but in the 80s that door was slammed shut. >> if we do not do something nobody will do it for us. if

we need to walk three days for the congress people to wake up, we will. >> reporter: the march began saturday and it will not finish until they reach downtown san francisco. about 100 people will take part in the hike and if the protest does not wake people up, the music might. >> is it difficult? >> with the music following us, no. our legs are tired but it is all right. it feels like you are part of a movement. >> reporter: the cause could not be more serious, they want congress to pass hr 1511 known as the registry bill. >> it says if a undocumented person lived in the u.s. for seven years continuously, they may apply for legal permanent

and focused. it is worth it. >> reporter: there are marches going on all over the country this week but this is thought to be the longest. the immigrants in the north bay and their allies want to prove they have the commitment to continue the march to reform no matter how long it takes. >> reporter: the marchers will go to the golden gate bridge and then go to the federal building in san francisco. a emotional homecoming for members of a bay area church that were trapped in a west african country after the government was overthrown. members of the cornerstone church were stuck for a week but they were finally able to return last night. elon musk has offered to pay legal fees for people that were fired over their tweets.

contacted the police. the person inside the car was hit by gunfire. no word on their condition or if anybody else was hurt. wild scenes out of antioch as a sideshow ends with crashes, injuries and a suv in the river. this happened in them marine parking lot. residents and business owners tell us they had enough. >> reporter: hours after the sideshow we can still smell the burnt rubber. a car submerged in the san joaquin river, part of the sideshow. officers responded to multiple crashes involving cars leaving the sideshow and fleeing from police. >> not surprised. >> reporter: business owner

kathy says sideshows happen at the parking lot almost every weekend. the latest happened sunday at 3 am. >> it is hopeless because we do not know what we can do. we have gone to our leaders and nothing gets done. >> reporter: investigators say the white car plowed into the black car at high speed. paramedics transported the innocent female driver in the black car to the hospital. the driver of the white car was arrested. they believe he was one of 50 cards spending doughnuts. this suv also took part before it crashed into a water main causing water to shoot into the air. it also struck a large concrete garbage can. the driver ran away. police also found a suburban

a program on the peninsula is making sure pets get free healthcare. a free pop-up clinic was put gather. the nonprofit provides basic care for those that cannot afford it or are homeless. we spoke to one pet owner that has been bringing their dogs for three years. >> this is my third dog, i do not know what i would do without them. i cannot afford to take them to the veterinarian. >> reporter: they offer basic care such as vaccines, wellness exams and nail trimming. it is day two of the

the summer of strikes is hitting up in la, striking hotel workers clashed with security guards in santa monica. they are the latest group to hit the picket lines dementing livable wages. as joy

bear that broke into several lake tahoe homes recently has been captured. as brady explains the cubs are coming to the bay area to try to prevent them from repeating their mom's bed behavior. >> reporter: despair and the cubs are known as hank the tank but to fish and wildlife she is officially known as 60 4f. she and her cubs have been charged with 24 break-ins. >> it is learned behavior. >> reporter: that usually means the bear needs to be put down but based on interest by the public the department of fish and wildlife worked out a deal with colorado where she will live out the rest of her life but the cubs have new faith.
