elizabeth cook. former presiden donald trump is fighting a fourth criminal case as he runs for the oval office again. this accuses him of trying to overturn the results of the 202 election in georgia. cristian benavides looks at what is next >> reporter: liz, we expect tha there will be cameras in the court room here and unlike with federal charges if he is convicted on state charges he would not be able to attempt to pardon himself if he is re-elected. former president donald trump is facing new charges in the state of georgia >> the indictment includes 41 felony accounts and is 97 pages long. >> reporter: others charged include john eastman, rudy giuliani and mark meadows. trum is facing felony counts of violating the ricoh act, which

seeks to take down major financial crimes. >> she likes it because she is able to charge one act on top o others. >> reporter: trump says he will present a report alleging election fraud in georgia in 2020 that will clear his name. trump slammed willis during a campaign rally in new hampshire last week, calling her a "racist" and saying he did nothing wrong. >> i challenged the election in georgia which i had every right to do and was right about, frankly! and they want to indic me because i challenged the election! >> reporter: brian kemp challenged trump and said the

2020 election was not stolen an that nobody has been able to prove claims of fraud in a cour of law. also happening next week, the first gop primary debate. mr. trump has not said whether he will attend. in atlanta, cristian benavides. back to you. the workers strike in san jose has been averted and the units have reached deals with workers. the agreements include more staffing, pay raises and more paid family leave. if workers approve the contract it will last through summer 2025. to maui now, where the deat toll from the wildfires stands at 99. more than 1000 people ar still missing. as anne makovec says, survivors are facing

frustrations with relief effort there. anne? >> reporter: yeah, there have been questions about what could have been done to prevent this disaster or keep it from killin as many people as it had. lines of cars stretching for miles as people wait to be let back into their neighborhoods to see what is left for their homes. officials are warning that the process is slow going. >> the fact that they are makin it difficult for us to go back to where we are from is hard heard it is unbelievable. i still have loved ones that are trapped, for example my dad. >> reporter: investigators are still trying to determine if a downed power line cause this fire. many are questioning why officials did not shut down power lines as the wind started to pick up. we know many of you have been striving to help.

has become a dangerous environment where kids are vulnerable to sexual traffickin and drugs. the city has even filed a lawsuit and they say, among many things, a decision t pull sheriff's deputy security at the center is putting children at risk. >> reporter: hayward mayor mark salinas says that for months he has been trying to get alameda county to fix what he describes as very serious issues going on at the assessment center for foster youth. >> reports of abuse, neglect. w started to get calls for servic around assaults and other types of serious calls. >> reporter: the mayor says the assessment center, which temporarily houses foster youth before placement with a foster family is at an undisclosed location inside hayward city

limits. the center is supposed to act as a sort of safe house for children, but in recent months the mayor says it has become and opposite. a hotbed for serious criminal activity, including sexual trafficking. >> there are kids inside the center telling girls that if they leave the center and go with their friend they can go t a better and safer place. and they are coercing them into leaving and they are leaving! and then as a result, they are getting into cars and being taken to other places in the east bay to get prepared for prostitution. >> reporter: rebecca edwards is the cofounder of brave mission, which supports and mentors foster youth. she says sadly, incidents like what the mayor i describing are too common. >> people who are and drug

dealers know where to find thes youth were vulnerable and desperate for somewhere to belong. >> reporter: the issue here, th mayor says, is the county is aware of these incidents but is doing nothing to stop them. he said they pulled the sheriff's deputies and replace them with private security firm. >> the private security firm wa underequipped, underprepared an simply not ready or were not ready to handle a population of kids that would go to the cente with just an array, very complicated lives. >> reporter: that is why the mayor said he had no choice but to file a lawsuit against the county, accusing them of failin to perform mandatory duties. >> this could end soon if they just provided a plan to fix it! there is no plan! we haven't

even -- we haven't received one plan of action to fixing this. >> reporter: we reached out to the county for comment but did not get a response. the alameda county sheriff's office did get back to us, but pointed us to a earlier statement from june of this year , where the sheriff stated that the decision to remove deputies from the center came partially as a response to community-based entities called to end law enforcement involvement with the center. th mayor says the goal of this lawsuit is to get action from the county. he wants the center relocated and a new contractor put in charge with deputies redeployed to run security. >> we reached out to the compan that staffs this center, west coast children's clinic, and they said they have been dealin with untenable issues at the

breaking news. our chopper is over a small brush fire in san leandro. this is at oyster point there. you can see the blackened area where the fire was. firefighters have stopped forward progress which is good news, but the fire burned about three acres. just a reminder that we are still in the middle of fire season. meanwhile, thousands of students across the bay area ar heading back to the classroom this week at robert simple elementary school in the nation they will see more teachers an

portable classrooms and resources on campus thanks to funding from measure s. we have heard a lot from the state of california looking to recruit teachers. this is according to the state commission that does credentialing. but we highlight a san francisco native who has never lost the joy of teaching. she is getting ready to welcome kindergartners at the same north beach school where she ha taught for the last 42 years. >> all of these over the years, then these will be seniors and college. >> reporter: for yvonne, it is like turning the pages of a scrapbook of her career. she ha her own page from saints peter and paul parochial school. yvonne herself is a graduate wh returned as a college student t teach kindergarten. >> back in the day it was more play with introducing letters

and numbers. >> reporter: and she got hooked >> i grew to love working with the little kids. >> reporter: she earned teachin credentials and became a full-time kindergarten teacher at the 98-year-old private school. she has taught 42 years in this classroom, the same classroom where she instructed her own three children, past students' children and hundred of others. >> just being with kids, they are magical. when you are with little ones, they just want to learn and have fun. >> reporter: she has opened doors to the many changes in kindergarten. no longer just fo playtime and religious learning it has developed into a full da with an academic core curriculum. >> as they grow and learn, those skills are embedded in them. that is my goal in life. whatever needed to be done, we

just pushed and pushed and pushed. >> reporter: she had to become student of zoom, and through trial and error she found creative strategies to keep students engaged, using supplemental videos and music and taking breaks. >> now that zoom is no longer a option, it is like, i don't kno if i could redo it! it was such a traumatic time. >> reporter: she is looking forward to 20 new kindergartner this fall and has no plans to retire. she enjoys her supportive school community and she tells some former students who once filled the seats. >> they realized it was me and all of them gave me a hug! you are just a part of their life, you are an important part of their life. i would like to think i was the spark that got them going. >> reporter: and that gets

yvonne going as she welcomes another class of kindergarten stars and gives them the foundation to shine. >> we love our teachers! stay with cbs news bay area and kpix.com for continuing coverag as kids head back to school across the bay. time for a look at our forecast with darren peck, and it was a pretty good day to go back to school, actually! >> kind of hot inland but we ar not looking at a heat advisory or anything like that. but this is is a hot as it is going to b all week. temperatures will start coming down. in addition to the temperatures, we are still looking at thunderstorms across the state. you can see them in the sierra right now. i you put this into the future cast and play it forward, you see how close those showers might want to try to get to the bay? once again, that is tomorrow. early morning. very similar to what happened today. no rain in the forecast for us, but do not be surprised if you see one minor stray shower grac some part of the bay tomorrow. it has happened for the past fe

days straight. just a quick little background on that, you don't see anything unique when you look at regular satellite. water vapor shows you why we have this pattern. look at this spin. you see that? these thing cannot be seen in regular satellite, but when you put in the water vapor where you see all the moisture, now you can spot the culprit! there is the area of low pressure off the coast. that will be around for most of this week, so you see i in the future cast. knowing it is there, watch what happens when we come back in for a close-up look. you see the spin and the clouds off the coast an then you see showers developing off the coast! this area of low pressure is still there. there is a small chance of a shower being thrown our way. we will track that. no rain in the forecast. if it happens it will come on friday. let's look at the seven-day forecast. you wil see the impact when we look at the nearest microclimate. watch the numbers for concord and how they go down for the coolest

day, friday. the temperature o friday only goes to 86. you still have a 98-degree day tomorrow, though. so it is stil warm to hot. that is about 10 degrees above average but you will be down to the mid-80s by the time friday rolls around. i we look at today, what is average anyway? concord, san jose, hayward and oakland? thos of the average daytime highs. we now pull out with the actual hyzaar and this is what we were talking about just a moment ago this is a one to hot day for a lot of places. san jose on the verge of 90 and concord in the upper 90s, but those numbers ar about to start coming down. tomorrow's numbers are just about as hot as this. technically some of us are a little bit cooler, but in the seven-day forecast for everybod you see the change. san francisco and oakland, you come down to the mid-70s, oakland. you were right around 80 today. north bay valleys, you go to th
